Even now oraban and fidesz have a lead in opinion polls despite his bad governance. So why do the opposition in Hungary seem to struggle so much in comparison to the opposition in poland and let's say Czechia

First of all, several current polls show that the Tisza Party is in the lead.
The reasons why Fidesz keeps winning elections:
- In 2014, right before the elections, Fidesz unilaterally rewrote the electoral law. Over the past 30 years, no winning party has received as few votes as Fidesz did in 2014. Nevertheless, they secured two-thirds of the parliamentary seats, thanks to the new electoral system.
-Orbán turned his friends and relatives into billionaires using EU and state funds.
-Theese billionaires purchased the two largest independent online news portals, the biggest commercial TV station, all regional daily newspapers, 90% of radio stations, and all billboard advertising spaces. They spend €500 million annually on state media, where constant North Korea-style propaganda is broadcast.
Until 2020, the economy was growing across the EU, and hungarian people believed they were living better because of Orbán.
Right before the 2022 elections , they distributed €10 billion to the people to secure votes. This contributed to the economic crisis the country is still facing today.
Until 2024, the opposition was fragmented and consisted of incompetent idiots.

You cannot underestimate the impact of controlling the media. Almost everything they do is leading to this: they are financing their cronies to buy media, some of them keeping their "old name" and the facade of independence, where in practice they are pushing covert government propaganda. Over time, less and less covert, but still, lot of people are misled.
Imagine if Biden would channel government funds through rigged public procurements to his friends from university. And I'm not talking about a few rigged stuff, but practically all of the major infrastructure investment projects. These guys, newly becoming rich, would then buy CNN, ABC, NBC, Twitter, even facebook, and start pushing Biden's agenda. And all this within 10 years. This takeover would be heavily supported by the IRS that would audit every company, media outlet, political party that doesn't want to sell out to these new cronies. Also, you have your puppet as attorney general, who may refuse to investigate stuff, or burries prosecutions from the public.

Plus, the opposition is part of the theater, they don’t want change, they are just there to get their money

Fabulous_Cloud371 added a good summary already, I’d like to add one more point: the smear campaigns. Whenever someone from the opposition gains traction, becoming too popular or vocal on key issues with messages that resonate with the public, the propaganda machine kicks into gear to discredit them. They employ tactics like spreading partial truths taken out of context, outright lies and fabrications, and repeating these narratives relentlessly on all their platforms. While they often lose court cases over such actions, those rulings typically come years after the damage has been done. Their main goal is not to make Fidesz look good, but to make all the opposition equally bad.

And now, when the research shows that ruling party is in danger the electoral rules are again ad-hoc changed, with even more gerrymandering.
