This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions suitable for here:
- Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
- I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
- I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50
Remember that Discord is great places to ask quick questions as well: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/wiki/livechat

Looking to get a new PSU, maybe a 750w for the future. My PSU is kind of old and I would like to replace it before I add more case fans. What's a good one to be looking at in the 750 range? I'm a bit overwhelmed looking at the tier list. Current build. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FkrXt7

Your PSU is fine if you wish to keep using it

Upgrade from 7800x3d to 9800x3d for $224 or 4070 ti super to 4080 super for the same amount (4k oled monitor)

Lol ok 4080 super it is. How come the 4080 beat the 4080 super slightly tho
n7_trekkie@reddit
Not sure. I'm guessing it's unlucky run-to-run variance, but the 4080super is slightly faster on average. Safe to say they're effectively the same

How can I increase my PC’s storage for Steam games?
My specs are:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500, 3600 Mhz, 6 Cores, 12 Logical Processors
GPU: GeForce RTX 3060 8GB Video Card
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte A520M H
SSD: Crucial P3 1TB PCIe M.2 2280 SSD
Zerlaz@reddit
Buy more storage of course.
Looks like you have only one nvme-Slot and use that already. So buy a SATA SSD with whatever capacity you want, plug it in and windows should detect it automatically.
Wasteland_GZ@reddit
Do I just plug in into a USB port or do I have to open up my computers case and plug it in there?

Is this PSU good? don't know if i should get a different one but i want 1000W. Thanks!
porncollecter69@reddit
Bought myself a new PSU and GPU. Never upgraded before.
Is my first step uninstall graphics driver?
Then switch PSU and GPU.
Then install new graphics driver.
Done?

Can a failing graphics card (or one with inadequate amount of VRAM) cause the CPU to overwork itself? (Just noticed this after swapping out a video card that ended up failing)
n7_trekkie@reddit
Unlikely

Is this a good deal: https://www.dragoncomputers.eu/Dragons-MEGA-folder/Firebreather-Lava-I3447
I know pre built pc's aren't really recommended but for my current one I need to replace pretty much everything so might as well sell it and buy a pre built one to spare me the headache.

which mobo is better?
100$ ASUS Prime B550-PLUS AC-HES or 120$ ASUS Prime B550M-A WiFi II

I'm going to build an AM5 PC for gaming and software development. Planning on buying a 7600 or 7700 and eventually upgrading in 2-3 years. I'm thinking 64GB of RAM would be useful for dev work / multitasking, is that necessary? What RAM specs should I look for? Is there anything specific on a motherboard? What is different from 650 vs 870?
I'm going to reuse my 7900XT
TehEpicGuy101@reddit
If you think you'll want 64GB of RAM, then yeah, that'd be fine. It's usually needed in high amounts for stuff like video editing or 3D modeling. I'd aim for 6000mhz CL30. That's the usual sweet spot for stability and performance.
As for the motherboards, they just come down to the features provided. Things like more ports or PCIE 5.0 support. If you don't know what that means or don't have any specific features in mind already, then chances are that a B650 will be just fine for you.

I have 2 monitors hooked up to my Windows 11 computer. Monitor 1 is what I use for general purpose stuff, like browsing the web. Monitor 2 shows security camera live feed 24/7 for my house (using Blue Iris software). I want monitor 2 to stay on 24/7.
My preferred behavior (in order from most preferred to least) for monitor 1 is:
I couldn't figure out how to do this with native Windows 11 options/settings. Did I miss something in there that can do this? If not, does anyone have any software recommendations on how to do this (or some other way to achieve the same goal)? I want 1 screen on 24/7, and I want the other to go off/sleep/turn into a screen saver after a certain amount of time.

Maybe a virtual machine?

I'm building a pc towards gaming (1440p) and designing purposes (Revit, Archicad, Autocad) paired with some totally beginner-level 3D rendering (Twinmotion, D5).
CPU wise I had ended up with Ryzen 7900x but its price picked up 50 € in my country at 400€. Meanwhile Ryzen 7900 sits at 340 € and 7700x at 300 €.
Question is can I really reach 7900x performance with 7900 with just PBO enabled? If so, is there much difference between PBO-enabled-7900x and PBO-enabled-7900? Or both of these CPUs are too much for my needs and a Ryzen 7700x is enough for productivity, because gaming wise 7700x seems superior?

I have new motherboard: https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/B760%20Pro%20RS%20WIFI/index.asp but I don't know which driver to install. Can someone please help me?
n7_trekkie@reddit
Not too much. On Intel, just download things that aren't working. Like if Ethernet isn't working, download that driver .
TemptedTemplar@reddit
Its unlikely you will need the SATA floppy or Intel Rapid storage tech; but there's no harm in having them.
Do ignore the App shop and Norton 360 for gamers; those are garbage. The three "beta" releases at the bottom can also be ignored.
The RGB app is optional, you could easily control any case lighting with third party apps as long as they are not corsair products. Those do require iCue.
Everything else is either required or very helpful to have. But you have a choice; you can install each of those manually as to not accidentally install bloatware or you can use the Motherboard Utility or Auto installer to do all of the work for you.

I'm after a new PC Case & Fans in white, anyone have any suggestions? I'm just after an ATX Case that'll fit a 3 Fan GPU & 360mm Radiator in the Future. I'm not too fussy about RGB on fans either, just after a set of white ones to throw in the case.

Thanks, and for PC Case Fans for the top exhaust?
n7_trekkie@reddit
If you have a 360aio, just stick it up there
If not, you don't need fans there
If you want fans there: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/PbV2FT/thermalright-tl-c12w-s-v3-x3-6617-cfm-120-mm-fans-3-pack-tl-c12w-s-v3-x3

These aren't available in Australia, any other options you reccomend?

Is there a Good Curved Ultrawide Monitor that I can use for many different consoles ranging from
PS thru PS5
SNES
Dreamcast
Emulators
I want to set up a dedicated corner and now I am using a 4k Dell P2715Q, (that I really need to use for my photography work instead of gaming) and a CRT.
So I want to put a curved monitor (34" and up) and run it all to this thru random switches.
I know that the older games will be cropped to their CRT size and I can center that, but I was wondering about the PS4 and 5 consoles.
Oh and under 400, so nothing too crazy lol.. ideas??
