I'm looking to get into 4k gaming my current setup is:
- GPU: RTX 3070
- CPU: 5800x
- RAM: G Skill Trident Z 16gb 3200mhz
- MOBO: MSI B450M Pro-M2
From my specs above would a GPU + PSU upgrade be enough for 4k? Thanks
menonono@reddit
What is "Enough for 4k" to you? 60+ fps at ultra native on the most demanding games, or are we talking minecraft?
AgitatedKhan@reddit
Great question and apologies. I forgot to provide some more specifics.
I'm mainly looking to play single player games like Alan Wake 2, MH Wilds, Black Myth. I'm happy with High/Ultra + ray tracing targeting 60 fps.
Thanks
menonono@reddit
I see. If you truly want to run these games at 4k 60fps with native ray tracing and such, you're basically only going to be looking at grabbing a 4080 super or 4090. You also want 16gb more of ram. What's your PSU? I would assume you need to upgrade it for these parts. The CPU is fine.
AgitatedKhan@reddit
You're spot on, I will definitely be grabbing a beefy psu so it can handle the gpu. And noted on the RAM, I think that's a great call.
Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it.
menonono@reddit
With your current build, I would wait for the 50 series gpu's. Your current pc is just fine as it stands. Feel free to grab more ram by itself before anything else though.
AgitatedKhan@reddit
Spot on, that's exactly what I'll do. Will probably pick up a good 32gb ram over black Friday. Thanks for all the advice
Pyreson@reddit
I'm getting a whole new system soon but would like to pull old files off my old drives without messing around with the new PC innards. Is it as simple as getting a USB-to-SATA adaptor and power source and plugging it in, or would extra steps be needed?
n7_trekkie@reddit
Yeah. That's fine
Pyreson@reddit
Fantastic, thank you!

Hey all. I have a low budget for a monitor and I’m choosing between Acer Nitro M3 27” QG271Y and LG 27” UltraGear 27GN60R-B.
Both are the almost the same price. Which one would you recommend?
northsouthe@reddit
Up can someone advise? Anyone used any of them before or used them before?
Ashamed_Mushroom_551@reddit
I would like to play games like Monster Hunter: Wilds or future titles without horrendous FPS/visuals. My current build is outdated but I don't know where to begin within my budget (<$500 I'm poor.) Any suggestions are welcome, thank you! P.S. I know this is a big ask. I am not expecting GREAT or even GOOD performance from a <$500 upgrade, I just want something better. Using Frame generation on "Quality" isn't too bad for me with \~60FPS. Just wondering.
Current Build:
CPU: Intel Core i7-10700F
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2060
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2666 C16 2x16GB
MBD: Gigabyte GA-B460M DS3H AC V2-Y1
Also: Where should I shop for new parts? I've only ever purchased parts from Amazon before but I've been curious about NewEgg. I'm new to this scene.

Is 6000-6400 DDR5 for 1:1 controller-memory ratio still going to be the preferred option going forward with AMD into 2025?
Dedly_Attack@reddit
Any issues with my pc that I am about to build? Would you change anything? I am going for a build that can run cs at high fps so I went overkill on the CPU / monitor for high refresh rate. Budget flexible.

Is a B650E motherboard really slow on boot? Or should I stick with a X670E? I don’t want the MOBO to interfere with the performance of my CPU and GPU if that is a presentable problem.
My CPU is a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and the GPU is a XFX Radeon MERC310 7900 XTX.

I’m building a whole new rig to replace my old 4790k RTX 2080 system. It’s big ugly and doesn’t match our decor according to the wife. Sooooo I’m looking to replace it and need everything except storage. I want something small and modern looking and good enough to get good fps on my LG C4 tv. It’s got vrr up to 144hz. Is that even possible with a minimalistic case? Any case/mobo/cpu/graphics card recommendations or combos? All white with a clear side and white components internally was my original idea but whatever works, works.

There are a number of ITX cases that will fit a 4090, or some that were even designed to fit a specific model of 4080;
https://videocardz.com/newz/this-custom-9-8l-case-was-built-to-match-asus-rtx-40-proart-gpu-series-perfectly
There are LOTS of options. although if you don't want to pay a white tax I would just recommend getting something with a mesh side panel. Out of sight out of mind;

I did a pcpartpicker tentative list- how does this sound? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XYFhqH
TemptedTemplar@reddit
Sounds like it will be tight! Both sarcastically and physically.
ac_arno@reddit
Yeah- their website gave an upper size of the graphics card that this just fit, and my only concerns is the cpu cooler and the memory card sizes. I’ve done one other itx build years ago with a similar sized case- basically the opposite of the CoolerMaster gargantuan case I currently am using.
TemptedTemplar@reddit
RAM clearance is only a worry for big fancy sticks. Higher end RAM usually has heat sinks or lighting arrays that will stick a good ways up off the DIMM. G.skill trident royal and Corsair Dominator platnium are the first hings that come to mind.
CPU cooling you can help with by limiting the power draw ever so slightly. Or just leave it to run hot, the whole AM5 series CPUs were designed to boost up to 95C and just operate around there. Which is nuts.
SadShyGuyGaming@reddit
My current monitor is a dell 27 inch, 1080p, 74hz. I am looking at upgrading to a 27 inch, 1440p. The main reason for the upgrade is to get better fps. Mainly I play Rocket League so I don't know if I need the 1440p but I want to get it anyways. I am considering the following:
LG 27GL83A-B or LG 27GN800-B both are 144hz at $190 (37% sale)
Acer Nitro XV271U, 180hz at $170 (41% sale) or XV272U, 240hz at $200 (50% sale)
Asus TUF gaming VG27AQ3A 180hz at $190 (24% sale)
There are also some other options out there as low as $140 for around 144hz - 180hz.
The acer Nitro 240hz seems like it's best value because it has the biggest mark down sale. But I don't know if I want to spend that much or if I need to jump from 60hz to 240hz.
There is a lot about monitors that I didn't mention here mainly because I don't understand all that stuff.
Which would you recommend? What advice would you give? Is there much of a difference between 144hz, 165hz, or 180hz? And how strongly should I consider 240hz? Anything wrong with any of my choices or do they all seem good/the difference doesn't really matter all that much?
n7_trekkie@reddit
Yes, today freesync and gsync are the same thing. They're practically interchangeable
https://youtu.be/8K7ioTEieps?si=Cg2_kwn7bBUefKor
I think $200 for 240hz is a good deal. Despite its flaws, that's a good value
Turnrrc@reddit
if i can get a msi ventus 2x black 4070ti super for 650 new from amazon is that a good enough deal to just buy a card now rather than wait for 50 series?

You could assume there's gonna be a better deal on some store next Friday, but might be limited stock etc.
Solid_Hand95@reddit
wdym? better deal? istn the black friday only for a few days
Aleksanterinleivos@reddit
Black Friday is the 29th of November, next week. But this shit has blown up so much stores do deals for the whole month now.
I just meant that there might be some stores that put your their biggest deals on the day itself, and they might be limited time/stock.
But like we're talking 50 euros here, you're not gonna get that set of RAM for 14.99€ or something on Friday, or a 128GB set for that price, or something else ludicrous.

Need help for a motherboard with this setup :
CPU : Ryzen 7 7700
GPU : Gainward Ghost 4070 Super
Cooling : Boostboxx Aircool (CSL's brand, looks alright to me for cooling)
Memory : Kingston Fury Beast 2x16 DDR5 6000H
PSU : Asus Prime 850W Gold

Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX / MSI B650 Gaming Plus / Asus TUF Gaming B650-E and Asus TUF Gaming B650M-Plus
n7_trekkie@reddit
Those are all fine, get the cheapest one
azneinstein@reddit
WTF - is this normal? Mismatch memory modules on Kingston Fury Beast DDR5.
I've been building PCs for a while, I don't OC and really only play DOTA. Bought some parts for cheap from this guy, seems honest - gave mobo to me for free over some bent pins. I installed an I3-13100F to test if I fixed it - worked out perfectly as that's when the Intel problems surfaced. Came from an I9-9900k/2070 super => i3-13100F/RX6750XT - I know it's about a 10-20% if that in performance increase but it should use half the power and I planned on upgrading the CPU.
So I can't enable XMP. Right when I click enable, it won't boot. Disable it - I'm good. It defaults to 5200 speeds - however when I ran CPU-Z - the modules are:
2400-2400-2600-2400 - So I'm guessing I need to drop the speed to 4800 to enable XMP? Kit is a 2x32gb.
TemptedTemplar@reddit
So is it four or two sticks?
2x32 would be a single kit. Where is the 2600 DIMM coming from?
n7_trekkie@reddit
CPUZ is probably reading ddr5's weird dual channel on a single stick thing. So technically 2 sticks is 4 channels

Really scared to buy a PSU after hearing all the explosion stories and 'killing other parts' nightmares. Any reliable recommendations that also consider the seller reviews?
My estimated Wattage is 340W, but i'm thinking 550W. (AMD Ryzen 5 5600, Sapphire Pulse RX 6650 XT, Timetec PINNACLE Konduit 32 GB)
Budget is preferably less than $110
TehEpicGuy101@reddit
This one would be a pretty good option. It's 650W as well, so you'll have more headroom for future upgrades.

Can't really go wrong with big brands imho.
fenderc1@reddit
Upgrading to a Ryzen 9 5950X (gaming/editing), prices are now lowest I've seen it listed online ($315) I assume it's because of new CPU's being released, but haven't seen in 'special' deals for it. Do you think they will drop any further between now & end of the year or probably lowest we will see for a bit?
TemptedTemplar@reddit
The lowest price I've ever seen it hit was $300 and that was back in July. I doubt you will see much lower price this year.
fenderc1@reddit
That’s what I’m thinking too. $15 savings is nice but isn’t a life changer so may just send it.

AngryGardenGnome@reddit
Hello! Currently rocking an Intel i5-12600 with a 4070super. Was wondering if the jump to an i7-14600k would be worth any gains? Or would it be better to wait longer and upgrade stuff later.
TemptedTemplar@reddit
Are you currently hitting your CPU limits when under a heavy load?
If you are not hitting the limits of the GPU already, a 14600k would provide ~5 - 50fps while gaming. Its not a across the board improvement, but some games that are heavier on the CPU than the GPU would benefit.
AngryGardenGnome@reddit
For most instances I don't believe I'm hitting limit. I guess a better question is is it worth it to upgrade now on the last cycle of this socket or wait some time and either get a newer board/ram/cpu later down the road, like end of next year. I fear the i5 may bottleneck my GPU but what I've found regarding this is mixed.
TemptedTemplar@reddit
Wait. With Intel moving to their newer socket, prices for the 13th and 14th gen CPUs will only drop.
Only at 1080p. The 4070 is a powerful card, but if you're playing at 1440p or 4k, its going to struggle to maintain a high frame rate more than the CPU will.
AngryGardenGnome@reddit
Appreciate you, I think that's where I was leaning and just needed to verify. Thank you!
eMilad@reddit
I'm facing a dilemma.
Which one of these two models should I choose? NZXT C1500 Platinum ATX 3.1 1500W, or be quiet! Dark Power Pro 13 1600W (ATX 3.0)?
Which model is superior in terms of quality, efficiency, and noise?
djGLCKR@reddit
What will be the use case for the PSU to warrant up to 1600W?
Hardware Busters has reviews for both models (be quiet!, NZXT). both are rated Cybenetics Titanium for efficiency and A/A- for noise.
eMilad@reddit
I planning to buy 5090 and the other thing is that I want to be future proof in aspect of PSU,
Beside I'm using my computer almost 24/hr per day and want something I could count on it.
djGLCKR@reddit
That's just being overkill rather than future-proofing. We still don't have the details for the 5090 power requirements and the rumors point at it fully utilizing the 600W "spec" for the 12V-2x6 connector (and that's assuming the 12V-2x6 cable can keep up with that because the melted connectors from a while ago were mainly 4090 cards running at 600W). On paper, assuming it'll be paired with a 9800X3D and based on the assumption of the card using 600-675W, 1000-1200W would still be enough for that system. Even the thought of a 1600W PSU to aim for \~50% load efficiency is wild.
If you're not planning to run multiple power-hungry cards for rendering/AI/etc. on top of a power-hungry CPU, 1500-1600W is overkill and an exaggeration. Before spending a lot of money on a PSU, the best course of action would be to wait for the official specs to be released and plan according to that.
stanigator@reddit
The question about Windows 10 support is probably asked to death already. I have a rig setup with a motherboard that supports an unsupported CPU and uses DDR3 RAM. It has TPM connectors. However, between how I dislike how Windows 11 behaved to the current rig still working reasonably well, I have no appetite to upgrade the OS even given all the fearmongering Microsoft is creating. What would your suggestions be for people in my situation (there are hundreds of millions of devices that are ineligible to upgrade)?
TemptedTemplar@reddit
The fearmongering is coming from Microsoft no longer putting out security updates, which while it is a real threat to internet connected devices; means basically nothing for machines used at home for gaming, media servers, or local storage.
Unless you are actively using the machine to host game or FTP servers, there is no reason it has to upgrade. Even after support is cut off next year it could be many more months beyond then before a massive exploit or security threat pops up that would warrant taking the machine offline or giving into the upgrade.
stanigator@reddit
So even if it's used to browse the internet and respond to emails while using Google Chrome, it doesn't pose as much of a threat to warrant immediate upgrades, right? I need a couple more months to save up for a new rig (while figuring out what I want for the new rig).
TemptedTemplar@reddit
You have well over a year before you really need to consider this.
The end of life is slated for October 2025. But as we know from XP and 7, they still put out a few security updates in the years following their end of life. So its not really a hard cut off date.
bestanonever@reddit
Windows 10 is going end-of-life in a year (Late october 2025). You should upgrade by then, but you still have a year ahead of it. Windows 11 is fine, just need to modify the iso install with Rufus to bypass the silly requirements and keep your PC supported for longer.
You really don't want to use an unsupported PC. Viruses are easier to catch that way, and you'd end up being part of a botnet, wasting your PC resources to mine some cryptocurrency or worse.
Still, a year away, so there's plenty of time.
djGLCKR@reddit
Technically speaking you can still modify the installation media to install and run W11 on unsupported hardware, skipping the CPU and TPM requirements (i.e. Rufus).
You could still use W10, knowing you won't receive new security patches after October next year (unless you pay $30 for the Extended Security Updates program and get security patches for one extra year).
Alternatively, move to a Linux distro. If you need to run some Windows-only programs, a W10/11 VM should do the trick, maybe.

Planning on selling my PC to a friend for $450. I’d this a fair deal?
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/KingoftheKoast/saved/#view=HCVYLk
TemptedTemplar@reddit
Yeah $400 - $450 is pretty appropriate.
Just make sure they're aware that it basically has no room for upgrades.
Bro_dee_McScrote_ee@reddit
For sure. Is that because of the PC/Mobo? Thank you for your input.
TemptedTemplar@reddit
And the CPU cooler. You're unlikely to find a mounting kit that will allow it to fit on newer motherboards.
The 7700k is it for the socket. 8th and 9th gen CPUs require LGA 1151-v2 which was only found on the 300 series motherboards.
So anything more powerful would require a whole new motherboard, but thats what you would want anyways since even the lowest budget options like the 12100 or 7500f would handily out perform the 7700k. Passmark scores
Even then Intel just launched their own brand new socket too, so even the LGA 1700 platform is a bit of a risk to jump into anymore.
Bro_dee_McScrote_ee@reddit
Thank you so much for explanation!

Would love some feedback on this build list. It will be a major upgrade from a Ryzen 7 1700X with a 1050 GPU
TemptedTemplar@reddit
You can save half the price of the CPU cooler;
https://www.newegg.com/p/13C-000Y-000J2
But also, if you're buying a new CPU and motherboard, get off of the AM4 platform if possible.
Even if you only get something like a 7600x or 7700, being on AM5 will give you potential for upgrades later. Whereas the 5700X3D is it, that machine would need to entirely replaced in the future if you wanted more performance again. (outside of GPU upgrades)

I bought an ASUS TUF B650 Plus Wifi and didn't realize that it doesn't support SATA m.2 drives. I'm wondering if games I have installed on that drive would be playable while the m.2 is connected to my PC through a USB port, or would speeds be too slow?
I'm going to buy one of these adapter for the time being just so I can access the drive. Would games be playable or should I go ahead and grab an NVMe and transfer everything?
kaje@reddit
That adapter supports USB 3.2 gen 2, which is 10Gbps. SATA drives are 6Gbps.
Alternatively, you could get a housing to convert your drive to a 2.5" SATA SSD if you want to mount it internally.

Building a pc in the next few months for the first time in about 10 years. Planning on getting a 5090 and 9950x3d, a little confused on CPU power draw though. Some places are saying the 9800x3d has a power draw of 120W TDP but I’m seeing some people saying it can jump to 200W under heavy load. 5090 is leaked at 600W but I’m not sure if GPUs can also jump those numbers under heavy load. So I’m thinking 800-900W between both of those worst case scenario, plus 64gb of DDR5, 2 2tb M2s, and an AIO water cooler for the cpu. Would 1200W probably cut it or should I play it safe and get a 1500W power supply?
bestanonever@reddit
TDP is like an average at a good load, but not representative of min-max loads. For instance, with normal light desktop use, CPUs consume way less than 100W (some are about 30-40W), and while gaming full throttle, they can go as high as 150W-200W (depending on the CPU). GPUs are the same, idle or low activity is under 100W, intense use goes all the way up to 250W-300W depending on the models. Very few GPUs that aren't overclocked would get over 300W constant power consumption, they might get transient spikes over 400W, though (intense power consumption that lasts for a milisecond) and that's why you need to be mindful of the required PSU. That's why some high-end GPUs recommend a 850W PSU. Your whole PC might consume 400-500W regularly, but when the transient spikes hit, a 650W PSU might shutdown or freeze your system, while a quality 850W PSU would keep on working and you'd be none the wiser.
UpstairsSituation450@reddit
Thanks for the in depth answer, i appreciate it!
bestanonever@reddit
And for your usecase, I'd say a quality 850W PSU or 1000W-1200W should be enough, assuming the RTX 5090 doesn't require a furnace (wait for reviews before you commit to any part).

M.2 SSD Installation confusion:
Linus' video says to avoid the CPU slot for SATA, and avoid the PCH slot for NVME.
The NVME should go with the CPU slot.
My motherboard has a slot that's only noted "M2_1" with no additional information. The heat cover thing is marked "Gaming". The other slot is marked "M2_2" with the notes "CPU", "PCIE", and "SATA".
My SSD is NVME.

Currently rocking a Zotac 1660ti from 2020. Considering buying the MSI RTX 4060 8GB as a replacement. Have a AMD 3600x currently. (May upgrade to 5700X3D haven’t decided).
Wondering if the jump from 1660ti to 4060 is worth it? I’m looking for a good budget GPU and was considering the same MSI card but a 3060, but the 4060 is only $10 more.
Thoughts? Would I be happy with the performance boost of the 4060 compared to my 1660ti?

I'm having trouble understanding this part of my motherboard diagram. If I install both my GPU and M.2 SSD will they have to share lanes? Would this be a possible bottleneck on my GPU? Can I even put both in or do I have to pick one or the other?
kaje@reddit
They're both running off of the PCIe 5.0 bus and get dedicated lanes. It would show a switch there that they're both connected to if they shared lanes.
futureMartian1@reddit
Ah ok, that makes sense. It felt crazy that I would have to pick between the two
Wendek@reddit
Would it be a complete waste to have a 7800XT GPU with a 9800X3D CPU? The thing is the "lower model" 7800X3D is basically the same price here (540€ vs 600€) and if I go down to something like a 7600X I feel like I might get CPU-bottlenecked, maybe not right now but in a year or two.
On the other hand, paying more for a CPU (600€) than GPU (550€) certainly feels weird and like I'm scamming myself a little bit. The 7900XT would be at 780€ (if I take the Gigabyte one which is the cheapest) so nearly +50% of the price.

How can I increase my PC’s storage for Steam games?
My specs are:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500, 3600 Mhz, 6 Cores, 12 Logical Processors
GPU: GeForce RTX 3060 8GB Video Card
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte A520M H
SSD: Crucial P3 1TB PCIe M.2 2280 SSD
Zerlaz@reddit
Buy more storage of course.
Looks like you have only one nvme-Slot and use that already. So buy a SATA SSD with whatever capacity you want, plug it in and windows should detect it automatically.
Wasteland_GZ@reddit
Do I just plug in into a USB port or do I have to open up my computers case and plug it in there?
ZeroPaladn@reddit
You'll open up your PC and install the SATA 2.5" SSD using two cables: One is a SATA power cable that comes from your power supply and the other is a data cable that should have came with your motherboard. Here's a timestamped YouTube guide.
Wasteland_GZ@reddit
My PC came pre built, I don’t think I got any other cables with it unless the cable is already inside of it
ZeroPaladn@reddit
Good news, they're dirt cheap if you need to buy a couple.
Wasteland_GZ@reddit
Actually, sorry, I do have those, just saw the picture. So I just need those and this: https://amzn.asia/d/esrLF6G and this: https://amzn.asia/d/g9sJkBg ?
ZeroPaladn@reddit
You do not need that USB to SATA cable, that's to connect the drive externally. You'll be connecting it to the inside of the system with those cables you found and the SATA power cable that should be connected to your PSU.
Wasteland_GZ@reddit
Alright thanks, do you know what the SATA power cable looks like? I’ve just taken the glass panel off of my computer and I don’t see any cables that look liked they’d fit into the SSD Drive I linked,
ZeroPaladn@reddit
Should be a cable coming off of your power supply that looks like this. If you don't see one, and if you have a modular power supply that lets you remove/add cables to it, see if you have that cable floating around in a box somewhere.
Wasteland_GZ@reddit
Sorry i’m probably spamming your notifications, but how’s this? I found the cable and it was a bit of a struggle to get it to here. I must say it’s really stretching it but I hope it’ll be okay to plug the SSD into it, what do you think? Here: https://imgur.com/a/Qup0XQR
ZeroPaladn@reddit
Yep - that's it! Good news: SSDs are pretty light, tough, and have no moving parts. If you have to stuff the drive behind your rear panel with the rest of your cables because that's as far as that goes, do it and let it dangle back there :)
Wasteland_GZ@reddit
Awesome, you’ve really been such a big help, thank you so much, i’m realllly useless with this sort of thing so I appreciative you taking the time to help a stranger out!
Wasteland_GZ@reddit
I’m pretty sure I found them here https://imgur.com/a/rrqdsOj but they’re all jumbled up beneath the little box where my Power Supply is, I had to take the side panel off to see them.

I've been seeing that ryzen 7000 or 9000 processors pair best with DDR5 6000 cl30 memory. How much will it matter for example if I pair it with something slightly off, say, ddr5 6000 cl36 memory?
ZeroPaladn@reddit
Not a TON, you're picking slightly slower kits than what's optimal for plug-and-play Zen4/5 so you'll hit the CPU performance very slightly.
Mindful that for gaming, you'll only be able to measure the difference under CPU-stressful scenarios. You won't notice the difference from those snappier kits.
It's not a big deal :)
Also, if you're picking up a X3D CPU, the heavy reliance of the on-board cache means the RAM is even less important.
lommymen@reddit
Thanks! Was thinking between 7700x, 9600x or 9700x. The X3Ds seem quite a bit more expensive right now
ZeroPaladn@reddit
If you're gaming, a 7600/X or 9600X will be plenty fine!
lommymen@reddit
Would I get bottlenecked CPU-wise if I get like a 7700xt gpu? I will mainly use this for gaming, but I do like my cpu intensive games (i.e. Paradox games)
ZeroPaladn@reddit
That's a good pairing, even for Paradox games. If you live in the US and have access to a Microcenter, you can also consider the 7600X3D bundles they have - 4X games love that extra cache!

Both will probably do the exact same, you won't feel a difference. Is the Samsung 4TB or also 2?

Looking to upgrade my graphics card. Just upgraded my CPU to 5700x and am using the 1660ti.
Looking around me used:
TUF RX 6800 XT- 600$ CAD
PowerColor Red Devil RX 6900XT - 650$ CAD
RX 7900 GRE OC Edition TUF - 775$ CAD
Various 3080's - 600-650$ CAD
The question is, should i bother with used? Seeing them test it live, and hoping it hasn't been mined to hell.
Or should i just pick up the 7900xt Speedster on Amazon? I can afford it, just don't want to overpay for minimal performance increase over other generations. Not opposed to Nvidia, just haven't seen any deals on 4070 Ti or Super.
I play mostly competitive R6, CSGO, with some RDR2, COD, WoW, and others.

ZeroPaladn@reddit
That's a great price for the 7900GRE but it's up to you if you want to spend more on a temporary card than what you absolutely need right now.
I'd be considering the used market if you don't plan on keeping the card for longer than a few months instead of buying something new. Better bang for your buck and reselling afterwards will lose you less money.
mybigleftnut@reddit
Makes sense. What card would you get used?

Hello, fellas. Yesterday I installed an AIO for the first time in my pc. It's a Thermalright Aqua Elite 240 V3. It's been working fine but ever since I installed it the light coming from the RGB is orange and it doesn't change. Am I supposed to change it with software or is orange a bad sign? The installation guide doesn't explain how to change the light and I cannot find anything related to the RGB in their product page.
ZeroPaladn@reddit
That cooler uses a standard ARGB connector that connects to a header on your motherboard. If your motherboard doesn't have one, or if you don't have one free, you can pick up splitters and hubs to expand the ports you've got available.

Started to build my PC but I don't understand the anti-static wristband part. I've always been told to just connect to the case, but the tutorials specify it has to be something grounded. Some also say to use the PSU connected to a wall outlet... but my PSU is in a box....? I'm confused.

I'm going to build an AM5 PC for gaming and software development. Planning on buying a 7600 or 7700 and eventually upgrading in 2-3 years. I'm thinking 64GB of RAM would be useful for dev work / multitasking, is that necessary? What RAM specs should I look for? Is there anything specific on a motherboard? What is different from 650 vs 870?
I'm going to reuse my 7900XT
TehEpicGuy101@reddit
If you think you'll want 64GB of RAM, then yeah, that'd be fine. It's usually needed in high amounts for stuff like video editing or 3D modeling. I'd aim for 6000mhz CL30. That's the usual sweet spot for stability and performance.
As for the motherboards, they just come down to the features provided. Things like more ports or PCIE 5.0 support. If you don't know what that means or don't have any specific features in mind already, then chances are that a B650 will be just fine for you.

which mobo is better?
100$ ASUS Prime B550-PLUS AC-HES or 120$ ASUS Prime B550M-A WiFi II
ZeroPaladn@reddit
Pretty similar motherboards, feature-wise. The HES has a TON of PCIe slots if you plan on using things like capture cards, extra expansion for USB and the like, but only packs Wifi 5 on-board. The WIFI II has Wifi 6, which is a bonus if you depend on that for connectivity and won't miss out on the extra PCIe slots (since it has none :P).
As for case, pick whichever you think is prettier. They're extremely similar.

I need some help with upgrading my SSD.
* I don't have much knowledge about SSDs and their performance *
Current setup
I currently have an Asus Rog Strix G16 (G614JV) which came with a 512GB Micron 2400 SSD (system drive). At the time, I added a Samsung 970 EVO Plus (1TB) as secondairy drive to store all my games.
Upgrade
Now that games get larger and larger, I'm running out of storage. So I'm thinking about upgrading my SSD setup. My idea is as follows:
Questions
djGLCKR@reddit
Unless you play the benchmark game and stare at the numbers, you'll be hard pressed to find any difference between the drives. DRAM will mostly help with write operations and taking some of the brunt of the random OS writes (helping with endurance), DRAM-less drives use Host Memory Buffer (HMB) to act "similar" to DRAM by allocating a fraction of system RAM (\~60-200MB) as the drive's cache and to host the drive's indexing table. If you're not constantly moving large files in and out of the drive, you won't notice the moment when the cache is full. If it's just for gaming, they're mostly read-heavy tasks, so DRAM is irrelevant there.
More importantly, double-check both drive's health using CrystalDiskInfo to keep an eye on the endurance (TBW).
There are also cheaper alternatives to the Samsung drives. Not everything needs to be a 990 Pro (honestly ingore the "Gen 5" Evo drives) or an SN850X.

2- Gigabyte Gaming OC 4070 ti super for 715 USD (999CAD)
both are price before tax. at this price difference is it worth to get the ti super? I will do productivity and 3D work with moderate gaming. Its unlikely you will need the SATA floppy or Intel Rapid storage tech; but there's no harm in having them.
Do ignore the App shop and Norton 360 for gamers; those are garbage. The three "beta" releases at the bottom can also be ignored.
The RGB app is optional, you could easily control any case lighting with third party apps as long as they are not corsair products. Those do require iCue.
Everything else is either required or very helpful to have. But you have a choice; you can install each of those manually as to not accidentally install bloatware or you can use the Motherboard Utility or Auto installer to do all of the work for you.
