Yeah it’s insane. We basically did everything without adult supervision.

🤦♀️
At 10, we were walking to the McDonald’s, the community pool (which was not in our neighborhood) and riding our bikes all over the place.
This story made me sad.

And this is a heavily Republican area that claims to want a return to life as it was 50 years ago. Well, as children we walked and biked further than a mile, on our own, and at a younger age.
I really don’t understand what people want these days.

What's a mile walk for a kid? 10 minutes? A kid can't walk for ten minutes without a parent being arrested? I'm with you, I don't know what these people want anymore.

The laws with this now are insane.
A 10 year old a kid would be walking to school on their own, walking and cycling around alone in their area, and baby sitting younger siblings while the parents were out shopping or having dinner with friends on a Saturday night, when we were kids.
At 10 years old bookworm me would walk to the library by myself. Parents expected you to wander off until dinnertime. You weren't supposed to be cooped up in the house especially if the weather was good.

I’m so glad I grew up when I did with the freedom my parents gave me. They seem like a nice family and I was sad to read about what they are going through.

All posts MUST be pertinent to GenX.
This includes non-specific ramblings, any sort of conspiracy theories, that have nothing to do with GenX, or posts about people who happen to be GenX…and that’s it.

I thought it was insane .. we didn’t have phones with gps tracking .. shit I remember my dad sending m3 to the store to get him cigarettes from the vending machine and as long as we didn’t cross a certain street we were ok..

I rode my bike 5 miles to the mall with my friends at 10.

Walk to town alone...hell, I called that just Tuesday. I was an only child and a latch key kid.
ivyjade42@reddit
Yes. And then we get blamed for not raising independent kids. Can’t win.

Yes and I laughed so goddamn loud
