Last Dr visit revealed I have rheumatoid arthritis. Where's my rheumatoid brothers and sister?

Palindromic rheumatism over here!
JamesMattDillon@reddit
I found out I had it about 10 years, I believe.

My mom was diagnosed with it and almost killed by chemo+humira+prednisone before a second opinion found that she had breast implant illness. She got them taken out and her body stopped fighting them and she has been all better since.

I'm glad she got better! I've only had bits removed nothing installed yet, but blood work definitely showed an autoimmune issue.
libertyprivate@reddit
Hers showed it too. What they see of your immune system attacking you. What they don't know is why.

I was diagnosed with it several years ago. I do not take any medication for it. I would get flare ups almost daily, usually a few hours after eating. I went on a few years of elimination diets trying to narrow down what I ate and when I had a flare up. I ended up completely cutting out red meat and most sugary foods from my diet, and I pretty rarely have flare ups now. Things are a lot better when I'm exercising regularly, but I get lazy with that at times.

I was told to cut out red meat, but I think that was for high cholesterol. The thing is my protein is 90% chicken and has been for a long time. When I get to see my rheumatologist I'm going to tell them I don't want anything for pain for now its bearable. I just call it my annoying everyday pain. I saw my grandfather wither away on opiates and fentanyl patches for his arthritis. Cutting out sugars will be difficult I'll admit but I know that will help if not for arthritis in another way.

That's crazy - I've read countless posts of people suffering with RA for years and finally trying carnivore and getting massively better with it. Have you tried bringing back the meat but leaving out the sugar and starch??
ToeKneeTea@reddit
I’d raise my shoulder and fist up in solidarity, but my RA hurts lol

I have Psoriatic Arthritis. About the same difference as RA but with the added benefit of shitty skin.
Old-Rice_NotLong4788@reddit (OP)
I saw several people say they had that. I was going to look it up sounds extra awful.

My mother has struggled with unusually aggressive RA since her 20's. I have been lucky so far.
I hope you are lucky enough to find a rheumatologist that you like.

Dr put in a referral for one along with a cardiologist. My cholesterol is at 270 also which was surprising I'm not a big guy 6 foot and 190 lbs less than 20% body fat. My heart rate at rest is 50 I always thought I was fairly healthy for my age.

We are the old! We've got arthritis!
plantsplantsplaaants@reddit
Psoriatic for me. Sorry to welcome you to the club
crazyidahopuglady@reddit
Same, since age 31.
plantsplantsplaaants@reddit
I was diagnosed at 26 and people would always tell me I was “too young to have arthritis” ugh
Whore-a-bullTroll@reddit
Same here

I developed JRA when I was 7 or so but now I have just regular RA.
ribsandwich@reddit
Same here, I seem to have outgrown it by my late teens...well, worsening symptoms anyway. Damage was done and I still live with that.
481126@reddit
Yeah. Nothing like being able to know the rain was coming with knee pain at 13 lol. Only real reprieve I got was during one of my pregnancies. The thing I'm dealing with now is the vision changes which cannot all be explained away with being in my 40s so they think it's the RA.
After_Match_5165@reddit
Here's me, chiming in unfortunately! Just over a year since my diagnosis, less than a year on the medication trio and coming up on 2 years off work, Ugh!
ImAnOptimistISwear@reddit
i have psoriatic arthritis, so more of a cousin.
blue_suavitel@reddit
Can you please tell me more about your experience with this? It keeps sticking in my mind as something I might have.
ImAnOptimistISwear@reddit
I do have psoriasis that's pretty much always active despite meds, lots of joint pain and swelling especially with use. it's exhausting. what do you have going on that makes you think it's psa? it's definitely worth getting figured out
blue_suavitel@reddit
Ughhh I am sorry to hear that. I get rashes that I think are seborrheic dermatitis but don’t go way with seb derm treatments. And lots of joint pain/stiffness. I also get this weird thing with my thumb nails where it gets itchy sort of and then starts detaching from the nail bed. And then there’s this other skin just kind of there, but it’s dry and I usually rip it off. Hard to explain.
After reading a bit more about it just now, maybe that’s not what it is. I hope you find something that helps ease your symptoms.
ImAnOptimistISwear@reddit
I think you should for sure see a dermatologist to get a diagnosis. I've lost my nails from psoriasis flare (so i know that sucks) and just the psoriasis without the arthritis is an autoimmune issue that deserves attention on its own. it is so draining to be uncomfortable/ in pain all the time, you don't even realize how bad you feel until you get some relief. I have had flares with different types of psoriasis presentation and had been told by other drs that it was just dermatitis or eczema before my diagnoses.
Good luck to you though!
blue_suavitel@reddit
Thank you. What you said about not knowing how bad it is/was until you feel relief is resonating with me right now, but for another ailment. Sigh. We’re old. 😣

Not yet, but since I have ulcerative colitis, it's likely only a matter of time. Major predictor for RA.
Dad3mass@reddit
I have psoriatic as well. Already have a knee replacement from it. Not a fun club to belong to.
