Im completely on board with social democracy, but shit management in the uk government and civil service are appalling and have crippled this country to the point where many have lost faith in the system. Yeah totally agree with that, in Poland the right wing party that was in power before basically robbed everyone. They basically bought votes with a promise of 500+ złoty (around 100 £) for every child. Dumb voted because they don't know how taxes work. After winning they just stole shit ton of land and put their friends and colleagues in high positions and screwed medium businesses by taxing them heavily. Catholic church was also used as a tactic to get votes. Non private Radio stations and television channels were used for propaganda also.

you appear to have discovered a related but separate problem: the government is atrocious at allocating tax dollars to useful things. reducing the taxes you pay will make those bad things worse, because it doesn't mean cutting back on frivolous spending like the military, it just means a smaller percentage goes to things real people need

By the time you add up monetary, federal, state and local taxes. Your average American is heavily taxed compared to say the 50's. Federal spending has tracked up over time from a little under 20% of GDP in the 50's to about 25% of GDP today. Your average state spending has gone from 10% of GDP to 20% today.

ive never been to a doc in my adult life outside of emergency treatment and the army.

never had health insurance because i cant afford $300 taken out of my check(s)

thought id be fine and others just had weak genes.

nope, i have corneal erosion at 29, and if my eye rips im out of work for 3-5 days because i literally cant see... i have to see a specialist when it rips and i basically lose my job every time it happens.

surgery has a small chance of fixing it but its 10k per eye and ill be blind eventually without it.

no point in worrying about retirement now ig

mine is both eyes and what i thought was a small rip was actually 40% of my cornea ripping.. he said the scarring shows almost 80% of the surface area of my eye is ripping

hes put a "band aid" contact in my eye but i have to go back every 2 weeks so he can replace it.

My fiance is Hispanic and a lot of her family wasn't born in the US. The amount of hoops and bullshit they have to jump through just to get a fucking job - not even citizenship - is crazy. Idk if it's a problem with other nationalities trying to come in but at least according to her, immigration lawyers who help with all the legal stuff and paperwork and filings and whatnot charge egregious fees and basically scam people a lot because they can. Want your citizenship? I suddenly remember I have an additional $3000 charge I have to slap on top of the original $10,000 charge. They basically take advantage of people trying to get their citizenship.
