How many of these shows did you watch back in the day? (A Look back at 90s TV: The WB and UPN)

I think i only watched like 3 of those shows.
Desperate-Boot-1395@reddit
My wife is pounding through Buffy currently
ronchee1@reddit
A dream many of us had back in the day...
Desperate-Boot-1395@reddit
I just knew there would be a sex joke if I used that word.

Yeah, trite losers never disappoint.
mitrie@reddit
Are we still doing "phrasing"?
manchagnu@reddit
some still do.
cbih@reddit
I pounded it though Buffy too
Miami_Mice2087@reddit
i was more into giles and anya
Desperate-Boot-1395@reddit
Inexplicably, I have to admit to being a little more excited by Ally McBeal at the time.
cbih@reddit
The unisex bathroom was weird

What a great place for conversations

I watched exactly none of these. I must have been pretty busy during the 90’s. I remember watching Coach though.
terriblystupidjoke@reddit
Not only did I not watch a single one of these shows, I couldn’t tell you the title of most of them aside from the few with the title included.
I do recognize a lot of the actors, however. And TIL Eddie Griffin was in a sitcom. And Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince was in another show..
detourne@reddit
Yeah. These all look to be late 90s shows and we were probably late high school or college years. Way too busy being social or working to watch afternoon TV on specialty cable channels.
joshhupp@reddit
Same. I was in college and didn't have time. I watched a few episodes of Buffy and Dawson but the rest are a mystery
rjcpl@reddit
Same. Watched none at the time, aside from maybe some bits and pieces. Have watched Voyager since though.
mickeltee@reddit
Thank goodness! I thought I was going to have to turn in my card.
Traditional_Cat_60@reddit
Same here. If it was TNG instead of that other Trek series I would have had one at least.
The Practice, The X-Files, TNG, and Ally McBeal were all I had time for.
BrambleVale3@reddit
Same, maybe a few but I almost feel like I was too old to watch this stuff when it was in its prime.
terriblystupidjoke@reddit

NakedSnakeEyes@reddit
Three of them.
Significant_Dog412@reddit
Buffy was the only one I watched regularly. My Sister was into Dawson's Creek. Watched more of Charmed during COVID than in its actual day. Casually watched Star Trek Voyager and Sister Sister, but the latter feels like a kids show I was a little old for. Is the 6th one Moesha?
Guessing a lot of these shows either didn't come to Britain, or were filler on satellite channels/late night slots (vaguely aware of The Wayans Brothers from this). Looking at the pictures, wondering if the old "black shows don't travel" mentality was in play.
Vehlin@reddit
I watched Buffy and Voyager. I’ve no idea what any of the others are.
Designer-Bid-3155@reddit
We couldn't afford cable. I know 1 of these shows
TeutonJon78@reddit
WB and UPN were broadcast channels.
chatondedanger@reddit
I don’t think either were cable- channel 44 and 20 for me!
CheesyRomantic@reddit
The only show of these I watched in its entirety (more or less) is Buffy.
Some of these shows I don’t recognize or watched an episode once in a blue moon.
justsomeyeti@reddit
Same here.
I watched an episode here and there of the others but none of them ever resonated with me
CheesyRomantic@reddit
Yeah, some of them I just didn’t get into. Like Dawson’s Creek or Felicity. But I just either didn’t have the network some of them played on. Or the show would be on at a time I wouldn’t be able to watch.
I also grew up with 1 TV that had basic cable. And we were 10 people living together. So there’s that. 😝
Miami_Mice2087@reddit
i didnt' get felicity. something about hair that went to college?
CheesyRomantic@reddit
lol I think it was something like that.
justsomeyeti@reddit
I grew up a poor country ass nerd.
I didn't really connect with any of the characters
CheesyRomantic@reddit
💜
LusciousofBorg@reddit
Only show I watched on here was Sister, Sister
naamingebruik@reddit
Buffy, charmed, Dawson's creek and 7th heaven were on tv here in Belgium and I thonk that smart guy show was briefly on.
Never watched Dawson's, but my sister loved it
theboweragency@reddit
Felicity, because the characters were all the same age as me, and I loved NYC and I loved her whole awkward vibe.
I felt like I was too old for Dawson's Creek at first, but it became a guilty pleasure 🤭
Proud_Cauliflower400@reddit
The witches show made me afraid of white people. I'm white people.
Jim-be@reddit
I only watched the Star Trek one. I recognize two others. But I really hated sitcoms so.
idleat1100@reddit
ZERO!
What no Parker Lewis can’t loose? No aeon flux? No Daria? No Hightide staring Rick Springfield? No fresh Prince? No saved by the bell? No 90210 (as a drinking game)?
I realize this post wasn’t a comprehensive list, im just being silly. I seriously have never watched those shows and have no idea what most of them are.
rootsquasher@reddit
The WB + UPN = The CW
Glass-Marionberry321@reddit
Damn, I didn't watch any of them. Guess I was busy and not watching TV unless it was a movie.
Blueberry_Mancakes@reddit
That dad from Seventh Heaven ended up being a real creep.
HandsomeGemini@reddit
Fuck, a lot.
Sister Sister, Smart Guy, Moesha, Jamie Foxx, Wayans Bros, Steve Harvey, Clueless, Malcom and Eddie, Parent Hood, Unhappily Ever After, Charmed, Sparks, In the House, Nick Freno
And the shows I didn't watch, I was aware of, except for the Sentinel, don't remember what that was.
Jealous-Situation920@reddit
I’m guessing that your parents didn’t buy cable? Mine sure didn’t.
PuppyJakeKhakiCollar@reddit
I will have to tell my brother there is another Nick Freno viewer. We have this running joke that he single-handedly kept that show on the air as the only one who watched it.
HandsomeGemini@reddit
haha I don't remember that show at all, I just remember that I watched it because I loved the Wayans Brothers, and he was on there as White Mike
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
agreeeeee
ryhoyarbie@reddit
I watched Star Trek Voyager. No where near as good as the writing on Star Trek Deep Space Nine, in my opinion.
Kate Mulgrew, Captain Janeway, said at a comic con in 2016 that for the first three to five months, Paramount executives came down to the set to see if Mulgrew would screw up since women in the 90s rarely headlined a tv show. Her cast members also present at the con also remembered.
Garthim@reddit
Dare you to sit through this whole video. 😆 I'll never watch Star Trek the same again
frowawaid@reddit
Some sort of…orifice.
so2017@reddit
This is amazing!
So happy to see Tuvix at 4:46. If anyone is interested we’d be happy to have you at r/tuvixinstitute where we spend our time discussing his unjustified murder, mostly in meme form.
Miami_Mice2087@reddit
there were tons of women-lead shows, but not in science fiction. they just couldn't IMAGINE that a woman could do boy things
so when the rating slipped (because the writing was garbage, offensively so), they responded by throwing in tits mcgee
ryhoyarbie@reddit
Ah yes, Seven of Nine. I actually got Jeri Ryan’s autograph a few years ago at a comic con. She looked like she didn’t want to be there. She was also sick, so that might be another reason.
Honest_Flower_7757@reddit
Voyager was my gateway into the Trek world and I still love it. I enjoyed DS9 but not in the same way.
Wrong-Local-4283@reddit
From this list, Felicity. Which also set up unrealistic expectations of what college would be like.
I should have known better after watching "My so called life" in 8th grade and thinking high school would be like that, but it wasnt. As least for me it wasn't.
clumsystarfish_@reddit
Felicity. And it still holds up today
ElleTea14@reddit
I just watched it for the first time a year or two ago.
I missed most of the late 90s TV the first time - I was in college and didn’t own a TV.
ConnieLingus24@reddit
Only Buffy.
Stimpisaurus@reddit
2, Buffy and Star Trek.
I recognized a bunch of yhe others, couldn't tell you the names. I wasn't big into sitcoms back then.
Garthim@reddit
Charisma Carpenter is so hot but she already looked 30 in Buffy. Hollywoods gotten better about casting people that actually look like teenagers in high school shows/films
Miami_Mice2087@reddit
nick was like 26
JB92103@reddit (OP)
I loved The Wayans Bros
SoloMotorcycleRider@reddit
Miami_Mice2087@reddit
isn't that in living color?
AlienDog496@reddit
I’m truly shocked at the number of commenters who haven’t seen Buffy.
Miami_Mice2087@reddit
buffy and voyager the most. i wrote fanfic. voyager is the worst trek but it was compelling to see how soapy it got. beltrran didn't crack a facial expression for 6 long years
i didn't watch 7th heaven after the 1st season, which wasn't that bad. i read the agonized recaps on television without pity.
this list skipped gilmore girls! 1998
Geekboxing@reddit
I was a huge Buffy and Angel nerd back when they were on.
Scrambled_Creature@reddit
No joke, O out of 20. I must have just gotten my license when WB and UPN came about. Only reasonable explanation as to why I've never watched or heard of some of these shows
hopeoncc@reddit
I was there for the premier of Buffy (at 9 years old) and the very last episode ... All of its original run ... Obsessed and out every other night pretending to slay vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness, saving the world.
icecreemsamwich@reddit
Did another lap on Northern Exposure recently. Comfort show, love it.
TheFoxandTheSandor@reddit
Anybody remember Grace Under Fire?
pinkstrawberrycandy@reddit
Buffy, Dawson’s creek & Felicity
ProfessorOfLies@reddit
How do they have Voyager and not also include the best star trek series DS9, or its rival and best friend Babylon 5!? Also LOVED Sentinel.
Sabres00@reddit
I don’t think I’ve watched an episode of these shows, but I believe I was working a decent amount of hours when I wasn’t in school, and that consisted of nights and weekends.
SpaceAdventures3D@reddit
Watched some Buffy and a lot of Star Trek Voyager. I know Voyager gets a bad rap, but I liked it more than what DS9 became in its later seasons. The war with the Dominion dragged on way too long, and it stopped feeling like Star Trek to me. Voyager was more reflective of what I liked about Star Trek.
The finale to Voyager was a disappointment though. The show had been building up 2 threads: the crew trying to adapt Borg technology in order to develop a transwarp drive, and that the Federation had made contact with Voyager in order to facilitate the crew's return. Instead following up on those threads to close the show, they are saved by a time traveling Janeway. It was a gimmicky cop-out.
I remember occasionally watching The Sentinel, and another UPN show Nowhere Man. But I don't recall much about them.
Do_it_My_Way-79@reddit
Big fat ZERO & the ‘90s was my teen years. I know some of these shows but I never really watched them.
SekhmetScion@reddit
I only know 4 of them, drawing a blank with the others. Buffy, Star Trek Voyager, Charmed, The Sentinel.
It may or may not have to do with living overseas on a military base for half of the 90s. We only had 1 English television station, provided by the DoD, which was an amalgamation of current shows and reruns. I remember my grandparents would mail us over VHS recordings of shows we didn't get and wanted to watch, like Xena lol
Eradicator_1729@reddit
This list? Zero.
trustymrpoopypants@reddit
Van der beek has a forehead like Arecibo telescope.
Glad he's doing ok.
ihatepizza1998@reddit
I was aware all these shows existed. But i was never home enough to watch them consistently.
Old_Benefit1238@reddit
Zero. Not one episode of any of them
PizzaboySteve@reddit
I remember them all as shows. But I never watched any of those ones. lol.
sdavidson0819@reddit
I watched exactly zero episodes of any of these. Mostly because my parents' house didn't receive that channel very clearly.
plasma_smurf@reddit
Sorry but I actually have good taste.
mialexington@reddit
Too busy watching Jerry Springer huh?
IceSmiley@reddit
I looked at that and I felt weird that I remembered every show there. Favorite was Sister Sister though, hot girls 🔥
fivenightrental@reddit
Lol none of them.
Although I have since watched Star Trek Voyager, and basically like all of the Star Treks series 😆
AerwynFlynn@reddit
I’m just saying, Dawson’s Creek still holds up, surprisingly
Idislikethis_@reddit
Buffy, Charmed and Star Trek. Definitely watched a lot less TV back then.
thaKingRocka@reddit
Buffy & Charmed for me
jachildress25@reddit
I didn’t watch any of these routinely. A few if it was on tv and there was nothing else on.
bgva@reddit
Damn near all of them. Forgot all about The Sentinel.
Some of UPN's sitcoms were lowkey better than the ones on the Big-4 networks.
Sharessa84@reddit
I only watched Voyager (and stopped after a couple seasons), although my sister watched Sister Sister...sister.
Pickles_McBeef@reddit
7th Heaven, that's it. I don't think I've seen one episode of any of the others.
iMichaelBrien@reddit
I never missed Buffy.
jreashville@reddit
Just Buffy and Voyager. Yes I’m a huge nerd lol.
Honest_Flower_7757@reddit
Same!
Carrie_D_Watermelon@reddit
Only one - the Steve Harvey show 😅
RaygunsRevenge@reddit
All of them. There was far less media back in the day. Buffy was my very favourite show, though. Got a few autographs, met James, Charisma, and Julia. It really resonated with girls my age. We were all abused sexually in one way or another, and the fact that one of us rose up against it in an obvious allegory hit home.
cbih@reddit
Anyone else remember Homies in Space?
ScreenPuzzleheaded48@reddit
Tbh I learned more about diversity from UPN programming than any other source of influence in my life
shiftdown@reddit
I watched Voyager and a little bit of Dawsons creek. The rest are all foreign to me. Recognize a lot of the actors though.
MF-SMUG@reddit
Only 3.
Jamie Foxx, Wayans Bros, and Steve Harvey
SoloMotorcycleRider@reddit
Nope on all of them.
usernames_suck_ok@reddit
I actually think I watched the ones of these that I have seen more after the fact than while they were in the middle of their run. MTV2 used to show "The Jamie Foxx Show" and "Sister, Sister" most nights of the week for years until maybe this summer, and that was my bedtime routine.
PuppyJakeKhakiCollar@reddit
I loved Felicity and Sister, Sister. Watched 7th Heaven for awhile, but lost interest. I wanted to like Dawson's Creek but turned it off ten minutes into the first episode. I couldn't stand the way they talked (same for Gilmore Girls).
CaptZombieHero@reddit
Charisma Carpenter got me through high school before the internet was what it is now
effugium1@reddit
Just Voyager.
WheelLeast1873@reddit
just watched dawsons creek
Moxie_Stardust@reddit
Buffy & Voyager. My ex was a big fan of 7th Heaven, so I saw an unfortunate amount of that.
Hazel_Rah1@reddit
Damn, Gilmore Girls snubbed
54sharks40@reddit
I watched the LL Cool J one several times, not sure why
I believe I was flipping through channels on vacation and watched a few minutes of Sister, Sister before moving on to MTV where moments later, Kurt Loder cut in regarding Kurt Cobain
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
👍👍👍👍
