Why isn't healthy foods subsidized in America?

I hear officials in America constantly complaining about how American should be eating healthier. They should be eating more fruits and veggies and less processed foods. However, if you look at the price tag of healthy foods, it is simply out of reach for low-income (and many middle class) families. Many Americans simply can't afford to eat healthy. It's an issue in my country too (Canada). Fruits and veggies are ridiculously expensive.

Why isn't healthy foods subsidized by the U.S. government? And why is less healthy food products corn, wheat etc. getting all of the subsidies?
