What makes the comfiest sofas?

I spent a long time making sure I would buy a comfortable sofa for my old house and I thought I did fairly well. I have fairly recently moved house and wanted a corner sofa so purchased a new sofa. I left this largely down to my gf which meant the aesthetics were higher on the priority list than comfort. Having had the sofa for a couple of years the conclusion is that it isn't great for comfort (does look good though).
When visiting other people's houses I always note how comfortable or uncomfortable their sofa is. My theory is that the most important factor the most comfortable sofa is the depth of the cushion you sit on. Other important factors are cushion firmness/softness level and a decent height of back for head rest.
What do you think makes the most comfy sofas or what style of sofa is the most comfortable?

Depth of cushions front to back should suit your legs. Long legs need longer cushions. Shorter legs, need to be able to sit with knees bent, not sticking out.
I would always go for a high back, so I can rest my head. Height comes into that too. Good for one is not necessarily good for all.
You need to visit a showroom and try several for yourself.

I am quite tall, so it would make sense why I think a lot are uncomfortable. Unfortunately, a foot size difference with my gf

I was given (friend redoing their house) a 3 seater, recliner sofa in black leather. I wouldn't have chosen black leather, due to cold, slippery, farty. but it is very comfortable. And it was free.
We are all 5ft 8inches or taller. It wouldn't suit shorter legged individuals.

Avoid leather, freezing in the winter and you stick to it in the summer.

The depth of the pillow you sit on, you want it to be big, and allow you to not only to sit on it but lay comfortably on it.
Also has to be fabric rather than leather
