Well. She’s no Debbie Dootson.
superjonk@reddit
There was one that used I think it was the music for "That's Just the Way it is" as the background nusic
clarkh@reddit
My thought at the time: Would you take advice on how to get out of a dead-end career from Sally Struthers?
kmckenzie256@reddit
Suddenly it’s 12:15 pm on a Tuesday. After this commercial, The Price is Right returns and we’ll see Jennifer from Des Moines play Plinko.
SkullTrauma@reddit
do you want to make more money? sure, we all do!
Plutoniumburrito@reddit
I heard this in my head when I saw the photo!
snowflake711@reddit
I was about to say this
imatumahimatumah@reddit
She didn’t even give you a chance to answer.
augustwest30@reddit
I said that out loud before I even opened the comments.
von_sip@reddit
Wow! I think I just time traveled for a second
epired@reddit
Channels were plagued with those, especially between educational programs like the joy of painting with Bob Ross
Stoo-Pedassol@reddit
I think it was Drew Carey who had a joke about these commercials. You can learn veterinary medicine and gun repair through the mail. Talk about being a regular at the pet store.
Former_Tadpole_6480@reddit
Back in the 90s it was easy to believe the world was filled with endless opportunities.
JB92103@reddit
It was a more hopeful time overall. The Cold War just ended, technology was advancing rapidly, 9/11 hadn’t happened yet, and aside from the Y2K scare, everyone just seemed happier.
Affectionate_Lab_131@reddit
Liberals were in charge.
RedJohn04@reddit
I read this and I simultaneously agree with you … and then consider the possibility that we are literally days away from being the same age as the crazy old uncle or granpa that talked about the good old days. Remember those days before penicillin was invented? Wait what were we talking about?
Turbulent-Pea-8826@reddit
We all thought the 21st century would bring flying cars, jet packs and robots.
WaxWorkKnight@reddit
They were. You can look at a number of changes, economically, legally, and politically in the 90s and early 2000s that gave us the unhappiness we have now. It has created such a state of existential dispare that therapists, psychologists, etc. Are having a hard time addressing it.
How do you respond to someone who states concisely why they are depressed and it is literally everything over the last eight years?
It'll get better? What in time for some other bullshit to come to fruition?

BlackshirtDefense@reddit
She was also Charlene Sinclair on "Dinosaurs" and Pebbles Flintstone on "The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show."

And, of course, Gloria on All in the Family.

Don’t forget Gilmore girls

im_THIS_guy@reddit
That pretty much describes this sub.
Druidicflow@reddit
No. It was “you can major in business management or accounting?” Sounded like she was asking a question and drove me nuts every time.

High school, tv/vcr repair, computer programming, electrician…..
SteakJones@reddit
I love how there’s just “Art”
Like… hey what do you do? Me? Oh… I do art.
Art you say?
Yup. Art.
Wow that’s great!
Yep. Well I’m off now. Gotta go do art.
RedJohn04@reddit
And yet… I can never find a good VCR repairman these days.

tedsmitts@reddit
I know a guy who repairs/restores "antique" rotary phones - some for collectors, but mostly for TV/movies. He seems to do quite well for himself.
I guess there are people who just love the idea of having a working Princess phone in their lives.
degjo@reddit
I wonder if he can fix my hamburger phone
tedsmitts@reddit
He could, the dude is a mister fix-it
RavishingRickiRude@reddit
But what about my Sports Illustrated football phone?
angrybirdseller@reddit
Haaha, until 1998
Objective_Problem_90@reddit
Do you think it's too late to go into VCR repair?
Hyperion1144@reddit
Too late? Nobody else offers it, so now is the best time!
You won't have any competition!

Anyone remember Ricardo Montalban selling holy water in a small vial on an infomercial? I’ve tried to find this online but can’t. Fairly certain I’m not imaging this, but it’s a possibility.
Lumpy_Potential_789@reddit
Anyone remember the commercial w the pudgy old white dude selling “Air Page”? Targeted towards the elderly in case they need help. Hilarious and I can’t find it.
Remote_Independent50@reddit
I was really hoping to see some testimonials from some Reddit User. "Dude, I fixed so many firearms!!! I'm rich now!"
Hey-buuuddy@reddit
When people ask what we did before the internet, one answer is watching infomercials with stuff like this.
Intrepid_Secret5@reddit
I actually did a correspondence course through a similar company (PCDI) about 20 years ago. I would get regular shipments of reading materials and multiple choice quizzes which I would take and mail back. At the end (and after I paid the entire fee) I got a "certificate" for bridal consulting. I had this big dream of owning a one stop shop for all wedding planning needs. But the only wedding I ever planned was my own.
veringer@reddit
Between reruns of Gilligan's Island and The Munsters.
Opening-Bank@reddit
It didn't matter which subject you wanted, it was all $800.
M-S-S@reddit
That's why I have 20 certificates for $16,000. I opened my own TV/Gun/Accounting/Computer Repair firm. I have side hustles as an Electrician, Vet and Day Care worker.
Slater_8868@reddit
Damn, no heating and air conditioning technician certificate? I was looking for someone with your EXACT skill set for my startup company, but after careful consideration I'm sorry to inform you that you're not qualified enough :(

I got 14 degrees while on my lunch take! Now, I can legally prescribe marriages in the state of Kansattica!
marcusdj813@reddit
I hadn't thought of that ad in a minute and seeing this post made me remember it as if it aired yesterday.
Solid-Hedgehog9623@reddit
It wasn’t til I grew up that I realized these commercials were aimed at motivating unemployed folks. They only ever aired on week days, during working hours. Is there something similar out there today? Online universities are all I can think of, but these were geared toward someone who was looking into jumping right into work.

dcgrey@reddit
Fun fact: the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics would update which job types it tracks based on what got added or removed from subsequent versions of this ad.
^(Not a fact)^
