The existence of hammer in the system used to create the inertia for firing instead of a striker spring to do the same.

A linear hammer has a block that gets released and is spring loaded, it strikes a firing pin, which then hits the primer. A striker is just a heavy firing pin propelled by a spring. Less parts.
