Best CPU £300 ($350/400)

Ladies and gents,

I have a i7 3770k which i’ve stretched for as long as I can.

Sadly, the day has come to bid it farewell. Im looking to spend roughly £750/800 on a cpu, mobo, ram and nvme 2tb drive, and this will be paired with an rtx 3060ti (which i have already).

Recommendations for a cpu around the £300 mark please? I was thinking the r7 7700x - is there anything better at this price point?

7700X at $260, but 9700X is not bad at $310.

Thanks - it seems like the 9700x is only 1/2% better than the 7700x (gaming-wise that is).

Do you think it sensible to save the money? Im planning on keeping AM5 for at least 5 years, and upgrading to a second hand 9xxx3d when the 7700x starts to show its age.
