Drove my 1986 big block crew cab coast to coast across the US in 41 hours with my 3 friends non stop.

10 days ago we left the east coast to head to Phoenix AZ for the largest GM truck show in the world. Dino’s Git Down. We left Phoenix Sunday morning to head to SoCal for the Quarantine Cruise then a live comedy show with Jay Leno. Monday morning at 9am PST we started our drive back, non stop.
The truck has the stock 454 big block, that I’ve added fuel injection and a 6l80e 6 speed transmission. Both controlled by a Holley Terminator X Max. We averaged around 11.5mpg the entire trip. Not bad for a 7100 brick traveling at 80 mph. Check out my instagram for plenty of pics and video along the way. http://www.instagram.com/kdfannin

Im sorry
gyrospita@reddit
European here: That sounds awfully expensive to me. How much gas did you use?
rational_overthinker@reddit
how many jars of piss are in the bed of the truck is what we all want to know. Or was there a strategic hole in the floor board?
kdfanni@reddit (OP)
hahaha, we had to stop for gas about every 4-5 hours. It has two 19 gallon tanks.
rational_overthinker@reddit
Nice.Tell me about those wheels. They look like stock , but bigger.
kdfanni@reddit (OP)
They’re Detroit steel wheel “delrays”. 20x9 front and 20x11 rear.

They look perfect on that rig. Very tasteful

I enjoy this sub when it's a conversation about working on project cars. I dislike this sub when it's a post about the content someone made and how we need to like and subscribe to them. Go away.

Weird, I thought I did a pretty good job explaining how it’s built and what I’m doing with it. Guess it’s not a project since I drive my shit?
BrentRussel@reddit
It's all good. I'm sorry I came off like I did. This is the only platform I'm on. I generally dislike social media. Your build looks interesting to me, I am curious to see more. I once owned and restored a GM square body, I really like the 4+4 quad cab dually body style, I wish I had one.
However, I'm not going to create an Instagram account, watch advertisements on YouTube, or deal with whatever other BS the contributors platform of choice is. If you want to put stuff up here, great. Don't put a couple pics up, a short description, and post a link and say follow me here for more. I'm not going to follow you to your socials. Put it all up here. Asking me to follow you to your socials seems like you just want my likes to boost your fake internet points. Sorry for not being positive.
kdfanni@reddit (OP)
You don’t have to have an account to view Instagram to the best of my knowledge? I’m not a boomer so I use that for most of my media. I didn’t ask for a follow any ways.
BrentRussel@reddit
No, you didn't ask for a follow. You are asking me to leave Reddit to see your stuff that I would be interested in. If I follow an Instagram link without being logged into an Instagram account, it first prompts me to download the app. I can exit out of that prompt, but the site will then limit me to a few pics or scroll so far before it locks me out telling me I need to login. So I really can't see much there.
So it feels to me (which is not your intent or fault) someone's saying to me, "Hey, check this thing that you'd like out" and I'm like "yeah, I like that", and they're like "great, here's a taste, for more sign up for our BS service", and I'm like "Just show me the pictures that you don't own or have copyright protections to, I don't want your service" and they're like "come on, grandpa, get with the times" and I'm like "I'm 43, don't call me grandpa".

How did you get a 6L80e to be 2 wheel drive? Was unaware they made one that was. Asking as I have an LS swapped ‘79 crew cab square im debating between a 4L80 and 6L80 for.
kdfanni@reddit (OP)
They have two different 2wd variants. One that comes in the trucks and vans, the other is in the Camaros.

Does the holley software do a decent job of shifting the 6 speed? Have heard mixed reviews
kdfanni@reddit (OP)
The Holley doesn’t control the shift points. The TECM does. I use HP tuners to tune that. I have about 12k miles on it now since it came out. No issues really. Except yesterday in the middle of Route 66 in the mountains I had the Holley usb connected and logging and it went into limp mode when used tap up tap down. Reset the code with hp tuners and no issues the next 2500 miles home. So I’m wondering if there’s some can issue since I was doing both at the same time.
Farmerstubble@reddit
That is awesome! I'm so happy for overdrive.
Farmerstubble@reddit
Nice! Imagine doing that with a quadrajet and a three speed tranny.
kdfanni@reddit (OP)
I did 3000 miles to Texas and back like that twice. 8mpg and the TH400 screaming!
detroitragace@reddit
I see the Delmo hat and those wheels and tires. Are you sure there’s not an LS underneath hood? 😬
kdfanni@reddit (OP)
Haha nope it’s internally stock Mark IV 454.
Theseus-Paradox@reddit
I did a cross country trip from that pier to Maine in a dually with 2 friends, amazing trip! Plus we took the dually to on the salt flats and got it up to 108 lol
Comprehensive-Cry636@reddit
I somehow feel bad for the guy that didn’t make the picture
kdfanni@reddit (OP)
Im an idiot and there was only 3 of us on the trip. We used the DJI Osmo for the pic.
Beef_Daddy_@reddit
Nonstop SAUSAGEFEST!!!!!!!
good_morning_magpie@reddit
Hell yes! I did Chicago to Miami in my 76 Eldorado Biarritz with the 425 big block. What a blast to be in my early 20s with my best friend just cruising for days like that.
Jengalover@reddit
I’m seeing 190 HP and a shade under 10 GPM
good_morning_magpie@reddit
Spot on.
Adept-Disaster4045@reddit

azwildcat74@reddit
This is the kind of thing I dream about doing someday. Hopefully I won’t be anchored to my work forever.
