I’m Exploring Car Enthusiast Sharing/Swapping Concepts—What Do You Think?

Hi r/askcarguys,

I’ve been brainstorming ideas for a service aimed at car enthusiasts like us. The goal is simple: to experience driving or even just being in more cool cars that I’d otherwise never get the chance to enjoy. I want to create something that builds community, shares the joy of cars, and makes it fun, safe, and rewarding.

Here are a few concepts I’ve been considering. I’d love to get your thoughts on which one feels the most compelling or viable—and if you have any other ideas, I’m all ears!

  1. Free Open Market for Individual Swaps A peer-to-peer platform where car owners can list their cars and arrange swaps with other enthusiasts. Think of it like a car matchmaking service where you could swap for a weekend road trip, track day, or even just a day around town.

  2. Sell a Ride in My Car (Owner Drives Only) This would be for enthusiasts who don’t want to swap their cars but are open to offering a driving experience as the driver. For example, you could buy a “ride” in someone’s GT-R or 911 for a scenic cruise or track day. Great for those with rare or exotic cars who want to share without handing over the keys.

  3. Car Sharing Community (Communal Pool, Shared Ownership) Members contribute their cars into a communal pool, and everyone shares access based on a fair usage system. It’s like a club where the collective owns and shares a rotating fleet of fun cars. Think of it as a way to get variety without the full cost of ownership.

  4. Regionally-Managed Manual Fun Cars (Distributed Ownership) A community maintains a small fleet of fun, affordable manual cars (think Miatas, GTIs, etc.). Members share ownership and get to swap cars on a predictable schedule, like quarterly or semi-annually. Costs are distributed, and it’s highly regional to keep it manageable.

Some Other Ideas I’ve Been Kicking Around: A rotating “timeshare” model for high-end or collector cars. Event-based rentals for track days or scenic drives. Local swap events or “club nights” where people trade cars for an evening. What do you think?

Which of these ideas feels the most exciting or realistic to you?

Is there something missing that you’ve always wished existed for car enthusiasts?

Thanks for your input—it means a lot! If I move forward with one of these, I’ll keep this group updated.
