What can we do to make our home as safe and secure as possible?

Hi,
I am moving to London soon with my partner and we are really keen to prioritise home security as soon as we move in. We are moving into an ex-council flat, in an area where the crime rate is below the London average. What can we do to make our home as safe and secure as possible?
So far, we have thought of:
1) replacing the locks immediately with better quality locks.
2) looking into getting a burglar alarm.
3) getting a ring doorbell or something similar.
Thank you so much in advance!

Unless you are on the ground floor, you need a solid front door with good locks. That's it. There's only one way in and out. Some people are reassured by a video doorbell. But criminals are not deterred by burglar alarms or cctv because they know the police have no interest whatsoever (and they will cover their faces in any case). Relax and enjoy your new place!

CCTV in your property, obviously not the bedroom. Get a metal gate for your front door. I would if I lived in a city in a tower block

It's absolutely pointless getting a burglar alarm. All they do is annoy your neighbours.

Growing up, only one house on my street had a burglar alarm. They were burgled 4 times, nobody else was ever burgled.
I can only assume that the alarm made their house look like it was the only one that had anything worth stealing.

Make friends with neighbours so they look out for you and your stuff. Don't live in fear either, please.

Become Batman and bring that crime rate to zero

Have you seen the documentary Home Alone? It should cover everything you'll need.

Decent home insurance, and make sure you include any valuables such as engagement rings, art work, bicycles etc. All it takes is one unlocked door and an opportunistic individual.

Most london houses have video doorbell, alarm, double locks, window locks. Some have lockable gates outside.

Dog, if your circumstances allow.
