Handbrake or note

So I did the question of how to properly drive in winter.
Now comes a as big of question, how to park. I drive 15 year old volvo v50. Fwd.
My Father and alot of people on the Internet claim to not use the handbrake as in lower temperatures it'll freeze. I use my car every 2nd day to sometimes daily.
Some folks claim to use 1st gear and no handbrake, some claim to just use the handbrake. My father tells me to leave it in reversed with no handbrake, I did and the car didn't roll so success. I wonder if this Is is the optimal way to do this or not.

Have I seen brakes freeze? Yes. But needs moisture. So if it’s wet or the roads are snowy which melts in your car I would be reluctant to use the ebrake. As far as parking, if down hill I’d use reverse. If up hill I’d use first. But honestly not much difference. If trying to get the absolute best parking power use whichever gear is lower. Basically which ever gear (first or reverse) is slower at an idle, use that one.

Volvo? Winter? You might be in Finland or Sweden. (or anywhere else in the world where it gets cold, I get it)
I lived in Northern Finland for 7 years, and learned very quickly not to use the handbrake. The rear brakes will freeze up. Maybe not every time, but they will. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of gas to get them to release, sometimes it takes a lot more, like 3k rpms in reverse to get moving. I actually dragged a rear wheel for over 300m (on snow) before it finally released. The auto handbrake on the newer Skoda was a giant PITA for that reason alone.
specially with a manual, I'd get into the habit of putting in first or in reverse and not use the handbrake unless you're on a steep hill.
