Some days...

I have to remember that there are days when my brain is fuzzy and I'm dumb as a box of rocks. I did once go through four days of troubleshooting with a Microsoft tech before it finally occurred to me that we never did try rebooting the server (and the reboot fixed the issue).
But some days... I just wonder if people are messing with me or they literally are just that stupid.
As the saying goes, "A little bit of nice makes up for a lot of dumb."

9/10 when we ask if a user has tried restarting, they say yes but in reality they turned the monitor off and on.
Yet they know where to plug in a USB to the actual computer....

Back in the day, when I first realized you could see uptime in Task Manager, that was so helpful.
"I just rebooted my computer."
(Open Task Manager, see an uptime of 100+ days)
"The computer disagrees with you."

Task manager was also great when knowing when other users were logged in.
We have an OLD piece of software that only one user at a time can run on a PC. Constant calls of "the software won't launch". Would then ask when they started their shift if they logged out or switched users.
Again 9/10 would see additional users in task manager and force disconnect them and surprise, the software now works.

OMG, yes. Back at one hotel I managed, that was a frequent issue for our front desk agents, before I clued them in to actually log off, instead of just disconnect. Pretty much every one of those "my computer is slow" issues ended up showing 10+ disconnected user sessions.
Luckily, the front desk staff were usually pretty sharp and big fans of fixing their own issues, so after I told them what to look for, that problem resolved itself.

I was scheduled to do maintenance on a shared computer at 6pm. 6pm rolls around and I remote in. Still in use. I message the user.
Me: I am scheduled to do maintenance on this computer right now. Do you still need to use it?
User: Yes.
Me: Do you know when it will be available.
User: We are done with the work day (user proceeds to actually log off).
We're all (users and us) just trying to make it through the day.
