Upgrading from i5 6600K no mobo upgrade

Hey everyone, have had an i5 6600k with a gtx 970 for 4 years and its been perfect, though recently I couldn’t really run the games I wanted anymore. So I was wondering if I could upgrade my i5 6600k without upgrading the motherboard. (Don’t worry about the gpu, I found a good deal for a GTX 1660 super :))

waste of money and time to stay on that motherboard for an upgrade.
if your 6600k struggles, a higher end compatible cpu will also struggle.

What do you mean exactly? Is it my motherboard that is the fault, not the cpu? Or am I understanding it wrong
Halbzu@reddit
your cpu is too slow. but the motherboard won't be compatible with any meaningful cpu upgrades.

Ah I see, thanks for explaining

Best you can get is something from 7th gen, so not really worthwhile unless you get, like, the highest end 7th gen chip for a very cheap price.
AM4 tends to be really cheap to buy into with great gaming potential. It's last gen and uses DDR4, so RAM is dirt cheap, and the best gaming CPU on that socket only costs around 200€ (5700x3d)

The 1660 was actually 80, been eyeing it for a while, also thanks so much for the help, was defo considering switching motherboards but its such a hassle and an investment I can’t make atm 😅

Nice 80 is great, hope the card will last long without troubles

Only possible upgrade would probably be a 7700k.

Gotcha, thanks

Look into how a 6700k or 7700k (may need a BIOS update) tuns the games you're focused on. Those are your only option without a custom BIOS modification that may not exist for your motherboard.

Thanks! Will do
