Do you afternoon nap?

I 33M has got into a bit of routine of taking a half hour or so nap in the afternoon. Not sure if it’s this cold weather or what but im finding now it’s difficult to get through the day when I don’t have time for a nap
randomdemo@reddit
I could count on one hand the number of times I've had a nap in my adult life. And that's including when I had a new born. It just throws my system
Beginning-Leek8545@reddit (OP)
The trick is to not nap for too long. 45 mins is max
Winter-Post-9566@reddit
Worst is when the nap turns into a full-on sleep and you wake up in the dark wondering which universe you're in
randomdemo@reddit
5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30, 45, whatever. Doesn't work for me
Visible_Pipe4716@reddit
I used to be like this but once I started wfh during covid I used half an hour of my hour lunch to nap and it’s a game changer! Helps me get through the rest of the afternoon 😅 I think your body can get used to it but you have to persevere.
Ok-Train5382@reddit
It’s only worth getting into if you’re struggling getting through a whole day without one. As I’m not tired from about 9am-11pm it doesn’t make sense to force myself to nap if I don’t need one
randomdemo@reddit
Too much to do to try and get used to it. If I didn't back with a new born I doubt I will be any time soon now
Automatic_Isopod_274@reddit
Yeah I’m a little sleepy during the day, will pop up for a nap. My body usually does 20 mins and then wakes me up and I feel perfectly refreshed

When I die, I'd like to go peacefully during my afternoon nap like my Dad, not screaming in terror like his passengers.
(With apologies to Bob Monkhouse.)
greatdrams23@reddit
Actually, it was originally Will Rogers who said that. And he died in 1936.
Astronomer-Plastic@reddit
When I hit 30 I started finding I needed a lie down after work for 30-45 mins or so in the dark to recharge. Not usually even getting to sleep, just for a firm reset on the day.
Low-Cauliflower-5686@reddit
Yes, only if I'm in the house in the afternoon at the weekend. Usually half an hour but I have napped for a few hours.
bertiebasit@reddit
Try Magnesium supplements and Vitamin D
Cleveland_Grackle@reddit
Left to my own devices with nothing to do and nowhere to be, I could happily slip into a 6on-6off sleep pattern.

I used to every day when I was working part time. I'm back to full time these days so the only afternoon nap I get now is on most Saturdays when our daughter's grandparents look after her for the day.
Nowadays I have a quick 30-45 minute nap during the week when the daughter goes bed in the evening. My partner tends to go bed super early so I go up to bed with her for a bit and semi-doze off for a while before getting up again and going back downstairs to continue my evening for a while. She's generally out for the count by then..
I'll then probably go to bed around midnight/1am and get up at 7:45am.

I used to do this near daily. A few months ago I joined the gym and put myself on a healthy eating diet. Since then I do not nap at all, despite moving about more and eating less, I get far less tired.
Not to say that you are me but just my personal experience.
Beginning-Leek8545@reddit (OP)
I’ve also joined the gym and I tend to go in the morning around 7:30ish
Logical_Sea2630@reddit
I full asleep at my desk lol
beepbopboo85@reddit
I love an nap. I do have to have one when I get home from work but I think that’s more the fact I’m B12 deficient and also low vitamin D.. but yeah everyday. Even when I haven’t been to work I’ll have a nap.
TheDettiEskimo@reddit
No I have a job.
zer0c00l81@reddit
Haven't napped since I was like maybe 5 years old. Also only sleep about 5 hours on a good day.
mycatiscalledFrodo@reddit
I love an afternoon nap, I have a term time contract and over summer I get very used to getting out early, busy morning, lunch then popping a film on and snuggling up with the children in front of a film for a doze, the first weeks back to work are a struggle
NeighborhoodLarge427@reddit
I nap all the time … I do have a thyroid problem though.
tweettowhooo@reddit
If I had a bad night, it's inevitable with a severely disabled child. In the afternoon curtains closed, eye mask on and off I go for a nap for 20 mins, no more no less. Even if I don't fall asleep, it's refreshing. I stopped drinking coffee in the afternoon but I used to have a double espresso then have a 20 min nap straight away.
Narrow_Sheepherder49@reddit
I have been doing it my whole life. When worked as a chef I would sleep everywhere I could.
Instead trying to stimulate myself with coffee or distract my brain with chatting, I would just restart it with a quick nap.
Also, I used to have an expresso, and then take a nap. The coffee would kick in 20 min, which would be a good timing.
So yeah, I dont give a shit what people would think, key idea was that my brain is restarted and I am ready to deliver.
Demiboy94@reddit
Take vitamin D supplements- its likely lack of sunlight causing it
Rinlow05@reddit
I second this. After a few weeks of taking vit D supplements, I was totally shocked at the difference it made to both how I felt & how much energy it had.
I read somewhere that a huge number of people in my home country are vit D deficient and never know it, though it depends on the country/daylight hours per season.
Lunaspoona@reddit
I love a nap!
Research says the best thing is to have caffeine, then a 20 min power nap as thats around the time it takes to kick in. It's shown that this is actually more effective than just having caffeine alone. You shouldn't have any longer 20/30 mins max. I tried it and have found I do feel more recharged without compromising my actual sleep.
sharkkallis@reddit
40 winks at 3.10 pm precisely. Usually in my chair for 15 to 20 minutes.
DrDaxon@reddit
No, but now I have kids, I wish I could.
lavayuki@reddit
I wish I could sleep easy at night, let alone in the afternoon.
blainy-o@reddit
No, if I sleep during the day it fucks my body clock. Besides, waste of an afternoon.
rosesmellikepoopoo@reddit
I have no interest in napping. I have a load of things I want to be doing and napping is not only taking time away from them, but also just a huge inconvenience.
I don’t mind napping on a train or on a drive. But not at home or on a regular basis.
Meet-me-behind-bins@reddit
I used to nap. Now I find I get a nap-hangover if I do. It properly rinses me for the rest of the afternoon.
Brief-Education-8498@reddit
Apparently it happens if you fall into a deep sleep. I try to keep it a light sleep and that works for me
megatron420xoxo@reddit
Saturday = Yes
Sunday - Friday = No
heretolurkb1tch@reddit
I love an afternoon nap. 20 mins is the optimum nap time but I like a good hour
nicdic89@reddit
It normally depends on how good my sleep was in the night. I wfh so I sometimes use my lunch break for a danger nap.
marquee-smith@reddit
If I’m in the house at 3pm I have to nap
milkandket@reddit
I need one. If I miss my afternoon nap I’m useless by 8pm - walking into things, slurred speech, brain feels like custard
chrisjwoodall@reddit
Since I went part time, a nap in the early afternoon before the school run is second only to having a bath at 10am in the decadence stakes.
Accurate_Prompt_8800@reddit
Nope and I never do really. If I’m truly tired I usually have so much to do that I can’t anyway. I just try and get an early night instead.
Great_Froyo_5785@reddit
58m, WFH, 15 min nap post lunch sets me up for the afternoon shift. On my very rare in office days I am not a happy bunny in the afternoons
dinkidoo7693@reddit
Only nap if I’m sick or hungover
dopamiend86@reddit
No I've 2 kids under 4, but ifbi could I'd take a wee nap m. Love a wee nap during day, especially on sofa lol
