Warning. Ubuntu 24.04.1 has now for the third time in a week just laughingly stopped using WiFi and it's clear I'm not the only one...

So continuing on with my previous two threads,
1.
2.
Ubuntu 24.04.01 has yet again stopped using the WiFi after an update. It actually updated things automatically, this despite the fact I always turn this feature off. And so today I get this message out of the blue saying it requires a restart after several hours of good WiFi usage and not only does it on it's first boot present me with a black screen and no login menu resulting in me turning it off and on again via the power button, it's now lost WiFi connection capacity. Using a command I got the same readout as before, it would see the router, noticed it requires a password, says it knows the password but wouldn't connect anyway. Furthermore as before, it popped up a window and it was asking me to put the password in despite the fact it had it stored in it's connection settings. Anyway I'm now downloading 22.04.05 so tomorrow I can install that again. I have upon rebooting back into Ubuntu to copy and past saved files discovered that this function has stopped working properly too. When I right click on a file and left click for the Copy function, I cannot copy it to a Windows 10 partition, yet, if I select the file and drag and drop from one window in Thunar to another, it magically works.
If anyone knows how to report this let me know, I know a lot of people also have had WiFi issues on Ubutnu 24.04 so perhaps if I can I might log a report, I may well join yet another forum to do so. Hopefully this will be resolved by the time 22.04 LTS runs out of support.

I wish people would make more searchable posts, because inevitably a bug report will be linked here, and this thread has the potential to be a useful PSA but you haven't included any keywords...
What is the name of the kernel driver in use, and what is the kernel version? What is the model of the Wifi interface?
Man_in_the_uk@reddit (OP)
This was in my previous posts but as you can see the copy and paste feature copied the same link twice instead of both. Here's the other one.

Yep. Go mint. I had the same problem with Bluetooth and wifi. Ubuntu is garbage.
robvdl@reddit
Mint is based on the same repos so that doesn't really make much sense. Nothing wrong with Mint, but it does still share Ubuntu's repo's.
InfameArts@reddit
Just use Linux Mint already. Ubuntu is trash.
loozerr@reddit
Praising mint while calling Ubuntu trash is pretty funny
Man_in_the_uk@reddit (OP)
I was about to say that.
gnomegnat@reddit
Is almost like Go Debian. but that is sensibly a better system because it is the true base.
Man_in_the_uk@reddit (OP)
What do you mean by true base? I don't have any issues with Ubuntu for a decade until 24.04.. I did have a look at a lot of distros because I had an unusual setup of having a computer monitor and a large LCD TV connected. I've found some distros are good for the monitor and bad for the TV and vice versa. I've been ok with Ubuntu for this reason.
gnomegnat@reddit
Is mainly based on my experiences with Ubuntu that prompted me to suggest the base, which is Debian. I also ran Ubuntu when it was launched and still might suggest it for a completely new user, but not to any user that I might know or respect. For that crowd I might suggest a pure blend that has a few simple tweaks. Pure OS is a good one.
When Ubuntu the corporation started finding ways to monetize it and then got a little creepish with their monitoring and just general mayheming with kernels,I felt it best to abandon that corporate tax writeoff.
I could write a wall of text with all of the annoyances I and others have wrestled Connanical with over the years and that would be of no help.
I am glad you are happy with it, I even enjoyed Bhodi OS a little bit, is Ubuntu based. and after the three days of un-ubuntooing it I was and still am pleased with that spin.
I also like and use Puppy. The slackware one is pleasant enough, they like others use the Ubuntu repositories and that is just sensible.
Whatever works and works well is good enough. True base is Debian. The less it is moneyed with by corporates the better it is all I am on about.
Man_in_the_uk@reddit (OP)
Can Debian use WiFi dongles though? I was told a long time ago it was useless with WiFi.
KnowZeroX@reddit
Yes, there is no reason why not. Most of the problems of wifi stem from them being newer than the kernel. In the case of Ubuntu, they backport some of the common stuff and offer HWE kernels for better hardware compatibility and firmware modules.
As long as your thing wifi dongle isn't too new, there generally shouldn't be a problem but you can test in a liveusb environment with no commitment. There are also Debian based distros that offer advanced hardware support, off top of my head MX Linux comes to mind.
Man_in_the_uk@reddit (OP)
What's the difference between Debian and Ubuntu from a user perspective? I don't want any hassle.
InfameArts@reddit
True base means that there are no proprietary apps by default, keeping Debian's promise to keep everything FOSS.
Man_in_the_uk@reddit (OP)
I used Nvidia and Radeon graphics cards as well as watching media that required codecs and so I've always needed proprietary software regardless.
Man_in_the_uk@reddit (OP)
If mint is based on ubuntu why is its networking any better?
InfameArts@reddit
MINT IS DEBIAN BASED!!!! JUST LIKE UBUNTU!!!!!!!!
But uhh, serious answer: it doesn't use Snaps, so it might speed up stuff
Man_in_the_uk@reddit (OP)
Snaps used to be crap, I recall this early last year, but they fixed that issue by summer.
