Thoughts on SCCY?

Looking to get a SCCY CPX-1 for conceal carry. Had a Ruger ec9 for a while but didn’t jibe with it. Will still eventually get a Glock or Springfield for my main go to. Haven’t heard anything at all about SCCY (came across the brand by coincidence). Any input would be appreciated.

Don't, seriously don't. My friend had one and it genuinely locked up and was unfireable. Gunsmith would have to charge more than the gun is worth to fox it. You're life can't rely on that.

If this is for self defense please do not buy one of the worst firearms being made today.
ottermupps@reddit
As far as bad choices go, that's the top of the list. They're inaccurate, not at all reliable, have shit triggers, and like to break.
Just look around for a used Glock or CZ, you can get those for $350 most of the time.

Is there anything in production, chambered in 9mm, worse than a SCCY?
ottermupps@reddit
Honestly? I don't think so. Even Hi-Points are pretty reliable - they suck to shoot but they'll still shoot.
UTAHBASINWASTELAND@reddit
In ,22LR the Phoenix is far worse but in 9mm I can't think of anything and I considered the Hi-Point. The Diamondback DB9 is fairly terrible, lots of feeding issues. I worked at a gun shop when the Kimber Solo came out and I still think that gun's reliability is questionable but don't know if its even made anymore.

I've seen a handful of them in classes over the years. They break, they jam and occasionally they do both.

Hot garbage alongside Taurus and Kel-Tec
GFEIsaac@reddit
Taurus and Kel-Tec have a few decent models here and there. There aren't any good models of the SCCY.
umadogg96@reddit
I had one a few years back…….. horrible trigger. There was a safety issue as well…. It would switch to safe during multiple shit groupings.
GFEIsaac@reddit
shit groupings is the other issue I've seen
No_Knowledge16@reddit
With the plethora of options today, why anyone who consider a Taurus is wild. You can literally pick up a polymer CZ or Glock for maybe $100 more. Usually used but Black Friday / Cyber Monday bring plenty of great sales

My friend and I bought one each, together. We went shooting in the woods and mine was noticeably quieter.
I reload and when I retrieved my brass I noticed severe bulging at the base of each one. My chamber was way too big.
I had planned to send it in for replacement, but a good friend used it for suicide and the police kept it. Sorry for the bummer, but figured folks would want to know about warranty service, and this explains why I never tried to get it fixed.
Questionable_MD@reddit
😳 that took a twist, sorry for your loss
Pale_Draft9955@reddit
If you're just wanting something to practice your draw at the range, go ahead. I have a cpx-1 and I regret buying it. I should've saved a bit more and got a P365 or a TP9 SFX.

Maybe save what you’re spending on a SCCY and get a used Glock instead.

Homies don’t let homies carry SCCY
WesleysHuman@reddit
I've never owned one. I worked at an FFL and sold a number of them. I had someone tell me they were trash so I went hunting for information one way or the other as I didn't want to keep bad firearms in inventory. When they were first introduced there were some reliability problems that were corrected very quickly (this is 20 or so years ago). They are reliable. The trigger SUCKS. They are inexpensive (not cheap), small, lite, and a good warranty. Do not get the CPX-1 for carry; get the CPX-2. You don't want a safety on a carry firearm of you can avoid it.
BTW, I do want to own one someday.
throne-away@reddit
If you're used to those 3-4 lbs, short reset triggers, then yes, the SCCY sucks.
But my contention to others is that this is not a range toy. It's a close range, self defense gun. If anyone is in a position to actually be using it, they won't notice the trigger.
WesleysHuman@reddit
My EDC is a DA/SA so I'm good with heavier pulls. The SCCY trigger is very heavy, stacks, without a clean breakpoint. It is one of the worst triggers I've ever handled. They said, I have no problem recommending SCCY's and would like to own one.
BigBintheD2319@reddit
Had the cpx-1 many years ago. There was nothing wrong with it other then it wasn't refined I guess you could say. I thought I had a crack in the frame so it was sent back. The frame was fine and it was a layer in the material that looked like a crack. They replaced it anyhow. It did what I asked from it but I replaced it with things I like better. I have no complaints about that inexpensive pistol.
NinjaBuddha13@reddit
TLDR - don't waste your money. Buy a LEO trade-in glock or M&P instead for about even money or just a little bit more.
I bought a CPX-2 about a decade ago. Back then, it was actually pretty good for the money. It was reliable. I was able to consistently hit 8" targets out to about 20 yards. The trigger was long and heavy but also smooth and consistent with audible and tactile reset.
But then a few months ago the frame cracked. Warranty pretty much replaced the whole gun. Now I'm grouping minute of mammoth at 3 yards. Seriously. I can't consistently hit a man size target at 9 feet with it. The barrel has tons of slop in the slide and on the first range trip out after getting it back from warranty the ejector broke. I was able to get a new ejector from SCCY, but had to install it myself since they wouldn't take it in for another warranty claim. They also replaced one of my mags and the new one is a jam-o-matic.
So,
It doesn't. It's hot garbage. Don't waste your money.
throne-away@reddit
Okay, SCCY gets a lot of hate, and not totally undeserved.
That said, I have a CPX2 - no safety. I know you're thinking that you want a safety, but the lever on the CPX1 causes slide bite (pinching in the web of your thumb when firing) and a lot of people end up filing it down, or removing it.
Consider that the "safety" factor is the DAO trigger - the long 9 lbs pull should keep you from accidentally sending a round off when you grab it.
Now, I have had mine for over 7 years, and have had zero issues. I feed 115 and 124 grain, and Hornady Critical Defense. It is one of my EDC guns because it's small, light, and easy to conceal with my Vedder Light Tuck IWB holster.
While I enjoy shooting it, this is not a range tow gun. It will not have the super accuracy of a Canik or Walther, or the smooth recoil like a Sig. This is a close range, self defense gun; if you're shooting inside of 30 feet, you will hit what you're pointing at.
It's a sub $300 gun (sometimes you can find them for close to $200). Try one at a local range if possible. I'm very confident with mine, but there are definitely stories out there about failures to feed, often caused by bad mags. But their warranty and support is very good, so take all that into consideration.

I have the CPX-2 also. I paid $99 for it way back when. My biggest dislike about it is the extremely long trigger reset. Had mine for quite a while (10 years or so?) and easily 500 rounds through it of various brands and weights of ammo. Probably more, but it's just not a "fun" gun to shoot. My HKs, Berettas, and CZs all have a whole lot more range miles on them.
As for an exclusively carry gun it's one of a few I'll grab on the way out the door. It's small, with decent 11 round capacity for the size, and I do trust it. If it ever needs to be used in a defensive situation it won't break my heart when law enforcement collects it as evidence.
throne-away@reddit
I have some range toys, and some of my friends are surprised that the SCCY is the "Grab it on the way out the door" gun. But it's easy to stuff into my jeans at 4 o'clock and pull a shirt over it. And like you, have never had a problem with it.
JohnT36@reddit
If you can afford a SCCY you can afford to save a tiny bit more for a CZ P10S and get something that's actually really good

Theworker82@reddit
hard pass. the horrible trigger will keep you from enjoying it at the range. the less you like it, the less you'll shoot it. a carry gun should be shot often to be proficient with it. shop around and find something in your price range with an acceptable trigger that fits your hand.
youkilledkenny3211@reddit
Keltec p11 even a used one is a better pistol imo I carry one in my rotation you can put a belt clip on it to I carry it with the belt clip when I don’t have one in the chamber
Dry_Cranberry638@reddit
Wouldn’t trust my life with one - save up and get something a bit nicer/quality
ProblemEfficient6502@reddit
CZ P-10C is also a good choice for concealed carry and not much more expensive
hybrid_donuts138@reddit
Haven't shot one enough to speak to reliability, but I can attest to the awful trigger. Also, very snappy and overall unpleasant to shoot. Very similar to the Kel-Tec P11.

Trash brand. Save for the glock.
