How did you pay for your atpl ?

Hi, I'm currently in university and in a not so far away future I want to start with my pilot training. I'm working alongside studying, by next August I should have the money to pay for my ppl without any external help, sadly the amount needed for an atpl license is way more than what I can save up in my current situation. Pilots of this subreddit, how did you manage to pay for your license?

I’m guessing you are in EU if You say ATPL, like me.
Airline covered it 100%. I only paid for my theory exams and SEP exam. In total maybe 1k euro.
By saying covered, it’s a 0% loan to the airline, payable from first salary.
You have couple airlines doing something like this in eu

You mean cadet programs ?

Don’t take a loan for it.
I would guess that a fair bit are like me in my situation. I’ve been working a private sector job for almost 10 years and will have saved up the full $100K I need for flight school before I even started.
That + keeping your full time job while doing flight training part time.
For students, or younger people, guess they rely on the bank of Mom and Dad.

Sometimes loans are the only way to go though.

Learn to fly gliders. Graduate. Get a job. Transition to TMG. Then PPL. Be a tug pilot. Instruct gliders. Do modular training as you can afford each step.
You’ll be more mature and learn better. You won’t be broke. And you’ll be gainfully employed while flying part time and pursuing an airline job.

Some people will come the USA and get FAA licenses. Then go back home to Europe, get frozen ATPL, convert the FAA licenses to EASA, and build hours for the ATPL. I taught a few students like that, they told me it was cheaper! Maybe look into that?

To be eligible for an ATP you need to have flight time. A lot of flight time. Don't worry about paying for that now. Just get through your ppl and make sure you like it first

OP is not from the US.
