If you had 1 song from when you were young to take to a desert island, what would it be?

Aha - Take on Me

I never used to care about this song in the 80s. But it was used on an episode of The Magicians. Now I love this song.
Coldfinger42@reddit
I didn't care about it in the 80's either; I was 6 or 7 when it came out so I didn't really appreciate it. But as an adult, when I hear it, more than any other song, I feel like I got into a time machine and went back to my childhood

That was my first thought too!

Thunder island by Jay Ferguson
And yes, unironically.

Seems jaunty for a desert island.

Barracuda by Heart. I was obsessed with it as a 7 year old and would play the tape over and over.

Tom’s Diner by Suzanne Vega because that shits been stuck in my head for 30+ years anyway 🤷🏼

The DNA version has resurfaced regularly for decades. Fortunately I like it.

I actually like that version too but it’s quite the ear worm!

You have excellent taste. I would probably choose Computer Love myself.

What the fuck am I playing my music on if I'm on a desert island?
ToddBradley@reddit
I assumed OP meant you would sing or hum it, and forget all others
Parking_Locksmith489@reddit
I read it as it's the one song that can be listened to. I've seen this format with 5 albums. I assume I could listen to the albums, not physically owning the albums.
Backtothefuture1970@reddit (OP)
Good point , I maybe im giving too much credit to my GenX mates, but clearly this a hypothetical. Clearly we would be more concerned about how to catch a fish to eat and survive and find water.
Just another way of saying what's your absolute favorite fucking song. Maybe that should have been my title

I know, just messing with you.

I like More Than A Feeling, but if I legit only get one song either either going to be some crazy-long live jam or a song that's just insanely long to begin with. For example, there are some recordings of Zappa's "Billy the Mountain" that are 45 minutes long. And lots of 30+ minute live jams from the Dead. Or hell, even Alice's Restaurant is 14 minutes long. So I'd go with a long live recording of something I like that is also complex enough to stand up to many, many re-listens. Here's a 30+ minute version of Billy the Mountain, for example.

Buddy Holly's Early in the Morning. My Dad raised me on 50's music, heavy on Buddy Holly, Elvis and Sam Cooke. And for it's time, Early in the Morning really freaking ROCKS.

Which part? You only get one!
Dramatic-Pass-1555@reddit
I prefer Parts 1-5 over 6-9 but if I had to break it down further, I would isolate David Gilmour's playing from 2:25 to 4:10 (which I believe is considered Part 2).

I don't care how good a song is. Having to listen to only one song for possibly the rest of my life would make me hate that song
TheBraindonkey@reddit
This is the most genX answer. Finding the lead lining in the cloud. And I agree 100%
Comedywriter1@reddit
Agree. And if you were rescued, you’d be so traumatised you might find yourself trying to kill the song’s artist; sincerely believing they were somehow responsible for everything you’d suffered. 😂
chaoshaze2@reddit
HA!! Yeah you might be right.
