Nothing special, just your average career politician for the past 30 years, milking the state tits. Biggest talent is to know and mingle with the right people. Had a few corruption accusations over the decades but no charges.
Complex_Shine_1113@reddit
Some people are still against the name change in Macedonia, and as a result, also against NATO in general. She was a big supporter of both and a big reason of both happening. I assume the guy above is one of those people.
Pyro-Bird@reddit
You're half correct. Many people were in favor of Nato but without the name change. I won't go into details but she isn't looked upon favorably in (North) Macedonia.
NoPrivacy0220@reddit
I second this.
MartinBP@reddit
Her grandpa was executed by the Serbs for wanting to unify with Bulgaria.
varnacykablyat@reddit
I hope she’s as based as he was
Stealthfighter21@reddit
That's the norm, not the exception.
leafsland132@reddit
Another brick in the wall, she did nothing for Macedonia and will be remembered for her incompetence as an MP.
yellowspicy@reddit
Former Minister of Defense of (north) Macedonia. This was surprising to me knowing how incompetent this woman is, but I guess NATO idea is more inclusion of the Balkans in their geopolitics.
propercare@reddit
Yeah, I'm sure NATO has no idea about the competency of its Deputy Secretary General. Instead of us Macedonians being glad that this has happened, people say stuff like this. It's really depressing.
yellowspicy@reddit
Do you think she really represents the interest for the good of Macedonian people? I don’t think so. She’s just another brick in the wall. It doesn’t mean anything.
propercare@reddit
Of course she was, the Secretariat for European Affairs that she established was one of the best state sectors at that time. She has done a great job on aligning the Macedonian army with NATO standards. These are two domains on vital significance for the country. Even now, being a Deputy Secretary General is of great importance for us. Please do share your arguments of her wrongdoings for N Macedonia?
yellowspicy@reddit
I think we have to agree to disagree. I don’t like NATO. I don’t think that Shekerinska being a major figure in their government will do anything good for our education system, improve infrastructure and similar fundamental issues that Macedonia has. We are dipping our toes in something that’s bigger than us, and as a consequence we are being used for someone else’s interests. This is my opinion on the matter. I guess the issue I have is not related to her competence, but the value to the state with her being there.
MartinBP@reddit
Oh boy.
And there we have it, the average Balkan taxi driver logic I've heard in I don't know how many languages now.
First, what on Earth is a minister of defence supposed to do about education or infrastructure? That's not her job, that's the job of the relevant ministers and the professionals in the field. A state is massive by its very nature, you have many different people doing different things and those things can't just stop because you personally think others are more important. North Macedonia having bad roads isn't the concern of the ministry of defence or ministry of agriculture or whatever other unrelated institution.
Secondly, being in NATO is the only thing guaranteeing any kind of security for anyone in the Balkans. Ask Cyprus or Ukraine what it's like being outside NATO.
Thirdly, the Macedonian state is being entrusted with a high position in a major international organisation, boosting its profile and showing trust by the western alliance. That is absolutely beneficial.
Complex_Shine_1113@reddit
Actually, she has a reputation of being very competent, at least within NATO circles
ivanp359@reddit
Will she bomb Sofia on the first day?
v1aknest@reddit
Yes
SunnyTheMasterSwitch@reddit
That would actually help Bulgaria, take out all the corruption with one boom

Congratulations! Very deserved for our neighbors. I think it's also a sign for the EU perspectives of North Macedonia and Western Balkans

The NATO which forced Macedonia to change her name in our favour.
Fepotili@reddit
in our favour? It was treason.
CriticalHistoryGreek@reddit
Everyone was calling them "Macedonia". Greece wanted back from the 1990's a complex name with a geographic identifier, so "North Macedonia" is in favour of Greece. The traitor in the story was Zaev.
Christo2555@reddit
Oh boo hoo. A bunch of former Bulgarians using someone else's name for 90 years had to add a qualifier.
Dude_from_Europe@reddit
Indeed, 140+ countries had acknowledged the country as Macedonia - Greece managed to negate that loss in exchange for nothing really.
