I recently change graphics card to try to improve my fps and overall performance. Though I find it hard to tellif it really changed something because my fps are the same as before. I think my gpu might be capped because of my motherboard but no absolutely sure. The specification on my mother board are very hard to find.
Here are my specs:
32 RAM
ryzen 7 5800x
rtx 4070 ti super
rog strix G15DK motherboard
and 2 nvme

What games are you playing?
If it's valorant, then your gpu barely matters. It'd all be cpu bound.
Top-Leg9406@reddit (OP)
I mostly play games like rust and fortnite.
Elitefuture@reddit
Rust is very cpu heavy, you wouldn't see a difference in gpus.

look at the back of your monitor and give us the model-specs it says? and do you have the hdmi hooked up ? or the dp ? yes it does make a difference when you 1st set it up, with that info, the great experts, i kid you not, here can better help you to get the most out of your set up, hey if they helped this oldster, i know they can help you..

My monitor model it 32GK60W. I was using HDMI, just changed to dp and discovered my screen was 165 hz rather than 144 hz lol. I replugged all the 3 pcie that go into my graphics card but still nothing.
bobdylan401@reddit
Sorry this should be obvious but what frame rate is your monitor?
Top-Leg9406@reddit (OP)
144hz 32 inches 2k.
Spoonfeed_Me@reddit
This. If he upgraded and is playing at 1080p with like a 120hz display, that would be the reason on its own.

Did you DDU your 3070 drivers before installing the 4070 Ti Super?
Aliveless@reddit
They use the exact same driver thought, right 🤔 (same "package" at least)
V3nx3r@reddit
Just me, I wouldn't risk that there are parts of my previous gpu drivers messing with my current gpu drivers.
Even though both cards may be from Nvidia, there are definitely some small bits of code that work specifically for the 3070 that don't work with the 4070 Ti Super and vice versa.
Aliveless@reddit
Hmm, fair enough I guess. There are indeed specific operations and instructions for each (series)card, but the driver package you download is pretty generic 🤷♂️
If you go to the NVidia site and download the latest driver(s), that will support the newest 4090 all the way down to a 1050 anyway
madeformarch@reddit
Did you just pull out the old GPU and plug in the new GPU?
Are you using the correct cables with the splitter? You need two full PCIE cables, one in each splitter.
Did you download new drivers? Did you DDU the old drivers?
Did you reset your monitor frame rate in Control Panel?
Marcos340@reddit
Depending the resolution and refresh rate of your monitor, it could happen. Do you have a 1080p 144hz monitor? Because the 3070 could easily max out this combo, and a jump in GPU would net zero difference in performance, only power would be lower.
Also you said the GPU might be capped, I can only think of you didn’t install it in the top x16 slot, because the other x16 are actually x8, which with a 5800x is likely to be gen 3.0. If it was 4.0 it would still be ok.
OfficeWorm@reddit
My gut tells me OP doesnt know about GPU and monitors.
StewTheDuder@reddit
Something is wrong here. What resolution and hz is your monitor?
I went from a 3070ti to a 7900xt, albeit on a 7800x3d system, and it literally doubled my performance in almost every single game. You should be seeing similar results. But if you’re gaming at 1080p, then it’s probably your CPU holding you back. You should upgrade your monitor.
PreparationOver2310@reddit
G15dk is the name of the model of desktop. It could have 1 of 3 different motherboards. And you type "sysinfo" into the windows search and in system information it will list your motherboard near the top. It will say like B550 or something. If you've never done a bios update, it's very likely your motherboard doesn't have full support for your gpu
Useless3dPrinter@reddit
What is the actual FPS now and before? The G15DK is not the model of the motherboard, but the whole computer. Motherboard ks probably one of the cheaper Prime models with a new name. Whatever it is, it should have a PCIe4x16 according to the computer specs. It could be they've done something funny in the BIOS, or there's a framerate cap setting you haven't tested out.
Every_Recording_4807@reddit
Frame rate cap in NVIDIA settings maybe?
Low-Blackberry-9065@reddit
Unless there is some weird problem with your MB the GPU should connect at least at PCie3 x16 which isn't a limitation for the 4070S.
Maybe you have vsync on (so monitor is the limit), some fps limit in the drivers or you are already at the limit of your CPU.
What resolution are you playing at? What Hz does your monitor have?
Run timespy and compare scores.
