I was 5 posts in this more into my morning Reddit scroll before I realized I was reading every post out loud.
SalukiKnightX@reddit
Having discussions about using manual typewriters (in 1st grade) was fascinating speaking with younger colleagues.
Lost_Trucker_1979@reddit
My first old person moment was about 7 years ago now. I asked an 18 yr old what his favorite song from The Cure as he was dressed as a stereotypical 80s goth before goth look. He had no idea who they were. Worse a few days later he said he had listened to them and they sucked.
takisara@reddit
Whats next, the kids gonna hate Depeche mode too?
The cure does not suck!! Lol
SurlySuz@reddit
I got my 9 yr old singing Depeche Mode (unintentionally). There’s hope…
takisara@reddit
Which tune?
SurlySuz@reddit
Just Enjoy the Silence… nothing obscure or… questionable
fatbuddha66@reddit
So a “mall goth,” basically.
JimShimoda@reddit
Fuckin' posers man.
Yeeslander@reddit
A couple of personal age markers I can claim...
1) In my 30s, I realized that I often let out a long, involuntary, exasperated sigh when I sit down.
2) In my 40s, I realized that burping, sneezing, and hiccups (especially) are unpleasant and even painful at times.
runjeanmc@reddit
Sometimes I pull the muscle under my chin when I yawn. I didn't even know there was one there until it bunched up.
superschaap81@reddit
OMG that one terrified me the first time it happened. I explained it to some friends and they all looked at me like I was nuts.
runjeanmc@reddit
My father in law and I had a nice conversation about them last weekend. What a weird way to bond 😂
superschaap81@reddit
Lmao, better than politics
DidIReallySayDat@reddit
Hiccups have never been pleasant.
rvasko3@reddit
Regarding the second, have you mentioned these to your doctor (or, better yet, an internist)?
KieferMcNaughty@reddit
At least you’re not posting in all caps.
cbih@reddit
Patrick Steward is younger in that photo than many of us are now.
IceSmiley@reddit
An old lady came up to me and said hi and knew my name recently. I had no idea who she was and thought she was my mom's friend but she said "you don't remember me? I'm _ from _____ High School" and she was in my class 🧓🤣
kmm_123@reddit
My birthday was last week. For a moment, I genuinely forgot how old I was turning. 42. I'm pretty sure I'm 42.
SurlySuz@reddit
It is the meaning to life, the universe and everything… but I guess I won’t find out if that’s true until next summer.
DidIReallySayDat@reddit
If it makes you feel any better, i started losing track of my age around 30.
Nearby_Translator_55@reddit
Could be worse. I turned 50 recently. Multiple times I had remind myself that I was indeed turning 50 and 40 like my mind insisted I was.
Beanz4ever@reddit
I turn 41 in two months and I had to consciously think about the year I was born and what year it will be. First time I ever didn't remember my age. I didn't know if I was 40 or 41 already.
I remember thinking it so strange when people would ask my parents their age and they'd have that monumental pause. How can someone forget how old they are?!
Turns out 40 was my limit
Dammit.
iccutie82@reddit
I keep forgetting I'm 42 now. I have been for almost 6 months.
bnjmnzs@reddit
I had my first prostate exam last week 🫠
nucl3ar0ne@reddit
You haven't lived until you've had a colonoscopy.
iccutie82@reddit
Man, I had my first one at 16.
DidIReallySayDat@reddit
Guess you're an early bloomer.
iccutie82@reddit
I like to think I'm an overachiever.

I have to keep upping the size of the fonts on my phone. Pretty soon I’m just going to have to break down and buy reading glasses 🥴

Wait til all your lives turn white
fatbuddha66@reddit
My head has more salt than pepper, and the beard’s about 50/50. But the pubes? Still dark as ever. It’s gone from funny to weird as the years have passed.
SAHMsays@reddit
I had a white chin hair. I'm not even supposed to have chin hair.
Beanz4ever@reddit
Perimenopause hitting me HARD with the dark mustache and white chin hairs this last year.
So so soooo much gray on my head now too.
coffee_and-cats@reddit
For a second I thought that was Prince William in the picture
BlackPhoenix1981@reddit
I am an avid reader and love a good book. My wife says she has noticed something recently. I'm starting to move my mouth more when I read. Not talking out loud, just mouth the sentences I'm reading. I've never done this before.
WittyAndWeird@reddit
My husband does this with movies. I’ve never told him though.
HappySkullsplitter@reddit (OP)
I think that's how it started for me as well
Gian_Luck_Pickerd@reddit
Did you have to play trombone with your phone first to get it focused?
ToothAccomplished@reddit
That is such a delightful way to put it lol
Gian_Luck_Pickerd@reddit
lol I got it from the movie White Christmas
handsomeape95@reddit
That's why you get a bunch of toilet readers from the drug store!
Otherwise_Coyote4885@reddit
This one touched too close to home. Especially since I already were bifocals. I guess I should make an appointment.
finchfinch2@reddit
Did you get angry at the sight of a group of teenagers?
Steal-Your-Face77@reddit
if you get scared, you're even older!
DidIReallySayDat@reddit
Nah, I've been scared of groups ot teens since i was a teen.
RealisticSorbet@reddit
I think that started for me in my late 20s. I remember not wanting to go into an ice cream place because there were too many teenagers in there.
I've been old for far too long.
OtherlandGirl@reddit
Glad I wasn’t drinking coffee 😂
itsmaxx@reddit
Im not crazy old early 40s but I look like Picard so this photo always hits.
Threetimes3@reddit
Patrick Stewart was 47 years old when he started playing Picard.
Just leaving that tidbit to help.
LoveZombie83@reddit
Wait until your pull muscles in your neck going down for a bite of sandwich.
Lazy_Match724@reddit
Meanwhile it took me until 34 to finally grow facial hair(im older), everyone thinks i am in my 20s. I have brothers and sisters a couple years older than me that don’t look or treat me as a adult.. never have even asked for my advice in life. Most Young people think i am their age. When i am in a room full of my peers or age group i do not fit in… let alone i chose the more secluded life and didn’t choose career and family so my peers kinda look at me under their level. Its tough because i am older, most of those i attract are younger and its hard to relate past the moment of now. I envy you guys because to me you guys are living the “normal” version of aging. It’s so much different for me. I dont feel old. I am old. I dont feel young but i attract it and look it. My subliminal really took the Toys R Us jingle to heart. And if any of you envy looking younger… trust me, it’s an inferior feeling. That feeling you get when you step into the room and people treat you your age is completely missing for me😞😔
InsertNonsenseHere@reddit
I saw myself in the monitor at the bank drive through and realized I look like someone's dad.
Realistically I'm old enough to be someone's granddad.
HackManDan@reddit
Last year, I told a teenage family member that I remembered the day she was born (we have the same birthday). As soon as the words came out of my mouth I felt like I gave myself a gut punch.
HermaeusMajora@reddit
I've felt old since I was in my twenties. I joined the Navy at 21 so I was always older than everyone else. Since returning home I've worked at a lot of jobs with young people and ended up being junior to middle leadership a lot of the time which puts you in direct contact with younger people. Makes you feel like an elder.
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Yeah, I did boot camp (Army) at 25. Bein' older than most of my instructors was a trip.
Gotta a fair few accidental field promotions too. 😅
Furballprotector@reddit
The sarcastically spoken words "Well, that's a young man with prospects" actually came out of my mouth so I have scaled that mountain already. He had a curse word tattooed on his face.
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
To be fair, I think that counts as entrapment (for you).
MetaVulture@reddit
If I'm reading fiction I don't read it aloud. Unless I can't parse a sentence. If I'm reading technical documents and I am having an issue I do read aloud. But I've been doing that for decades.
My issue is that I can't seem to get my brain to wrap around new things as fast as I used to.
Now more things are aloud.
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
I also tend to do math/physics/programming while mumbling out my thinking. I find it helps me stay on track and not skip a step in reasoning.
zombie_overlord@reddit
I got a senior discount to my son's basketball game this last weekend. I'm 47.
ApatheistHeretic@reddit
I was given the senior discount at a GreatClips a couple of years ago. I was mortified, but too cheap to argue it...
VaselineHabits@reddit
Gasp I mat have died... only helped by how good the discount was
Hans-moleman-@reddit
I've had so many old person moments already. The most recent was hurting my knee because I was stomping on the floor in frustration due the new neighbors in the apartment below me play music too loudly.
stangAce20@reddit
Dude, I’m 41 and I already have had so many “what did I come into this room for?“ Moments I’ve lost count.
Steal-Your-Face77@reddit
Patrick Stewart is probably younger than you in that picture :)
EternalSunshineClem@reddit
I hurt my neck just getting off the couch at an awkward abrupt angle. We are not old but we are at that age where our bodily angles are so important
DriftlessHang@reddit
My old person moment today was helping a co-worker fill out some 401k rollover stuff for their parent. The parent is 5 years older than me.
Strange-Mouse-8710@reddit
You are not old unless you are 70+
SenSw0rd@reddit
Did you have glasses on, head tilted up, screen 8 inches from the face?
*i hear old farts do.that
calliemaggotbone_81@reddit
I somehow threw out my back cleaning out my fridge yesterday so that's been fun 😁
