Reddit has gone recursive now. Picture gets posted to reddit. Reddit talks about it. Dallas Morning News talks about Reddit talking about it. Reddit talks about Dallas Morning News talking about Redditntalking about it.
Vig_2@reddit
Observer should write an article about that.
AbueloOdin@reddit
I can't wait to post about it in three days.

I can’t wait for Reddit to show me your post in 5.

I’m just surprised the media actually correctly labeled a machine gun for once.
deja-roo@reddit
I doubt it's actually a literal machine gun.
Viper_ACR@reddit
100% it's a fake
Unusual_Young_5724@reddit
Why the doubt?
deja-roo@reddit
Because it would be immensely impractical. It would probably not comply with storage laws of NFA weapons. It wouldn't be something you could leave in a parking lot. I'm not even sure that gun could legally be obtained as a machine gun by a civilian.
NFA weapons are highly regulated and extraordinarily expensive, so it's more likely just a demilled or semi-auto gun that's basically a replica.
justaninspector@reddit
I’ve never met a gun owner in Texas that cared about any of that.
deja-roo@reddit
Do you know any that have NFA titled weapons? Pretty different ballgame.
justaninspector@reddit
I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t know. I’m pretty ignorant about guns and gun laws…but I do ask friends/acquaintances out of curiosity when it comes up.
You said you doubted them being obtained legally. Are those weapons something most gun owners are after? Like enough to obtain them illegally?
deja-roo@reddit
What I meant to say is that the difficulty and extraordinary cost associated with procuring a real automatic M2 Browning along with all the onerous federal storage requirements (that this kind of thing would make it difficult to comply with) and such mean that this is probably just a prop.
No, most gun owners aren't after something like this. M2 Browning that's actually a bona fide machine gun would cost tens of thousands of dollars. And the rounds it fires cost like $5 apiece.
Haunting_Raccoon6058@reddit
What are these onerous federal storage requirements you speak of? I have 3 NFA items and there really aren't any storage requirements to speak of. If someone who isn't on your trust gains access to your NFA item and possesses it they are certainly of violation of NFA and the ATF might want to have a chat to you, but thats about it.
Really the only thing that's prohibitive about NFA machine guns is their cost. Other than that it's a one page application, some finger print cards, and a $200 tax stamp like any other NFA item.
deja-roo@reddit
Under normal circumstances they're not that onerous for most people who bothered to do any of the NFA steps. Those people are going to keep them in their homes, usually in a safe. There are federal requirements for NFA items. I won't quote them here because they're readily available, but I feel it's kind of obvious how mounted to a truck they wouldn't pass muster.
I have a few NFA items and obviously I wouldn't leave any of them in the bed of a truck.
justaninspector@reddit
Oh wow. I get it now. I appreciate the info.
geeman1984@reddit
The cost would probably be in the millions to own something like that.
W_saber4@reddit
M2 will run you $90K-$100K for a transferable one that civilians can own.
anonandlit333@reddit
I’m a Texan with NFA weapons lol it’s not uncommon to see select fire weapons/bonafide machine guns in this area. What is uncommon to see Bieber is someone driving around with it in their truck bed.
Unusual_Young_5724@reddit
Check out storage laws in TX…The process/application for obtaining a machine gun is pretty easy. The expense of owning isn’t ridiculous depending on one’s net worth. People buy firearms for protection, as investments etc..they could been in the business of hog hunting…you’re allowed to even hunt hogs from helicopters in TX
deja-roo@reddit
There are separate federal laws on storage requirements of machine guns and other NFA devices.
I'm familiar with the process, I own suppressors and the process is about the same. But it just doesn't seem practical to mount a real M2 (which I don't think this is) to a truck that will be operated in public.
Unusual_Young_5724@reddit
Would those fed laws be within the same category as a suppressor?
deja-roo@reddit
Yes, suppressors are subject to the same storage requirement laws as registered machine guns.
Drewby618@reddit
I knew this and I’ve always hated this, but seeing it in a sentence gave me a headache. Suppressors almost seem like a bigger bogeyman than “assault weapons” because Hollywood made people believe suppressors turn you into a silent killer.
I know I’m probably preaching to the choir there but damn, suppressors really need to be deregulated. My ears would appreciate it.
deja-roo@reddit
Ha definitely preaching to the choir!
CeruleanWaves_@reddit
Yeah, people who don't own guns suddenly become experts on gun laws when it comes to reddit. It's very obvious that it's a prop.
fart_spray@reddit
It was 99.9% likely a prop you dolts
dancingbanana123@reddit
I was kinda hoping the article would provide more context than the reddit post. Y'know, the good ole journalism thing of digging deeper to find out how things happened and provide more of the story. Nope. It shares the reddit post, a tiktok of the same truck, and a couple comments on both. The video even has the license plate, make and model of the car. You could easily figure out who owns this car and provide more context of something like "is this just owned by some gun store or rancher? Is it just something fun the owner has? Are they some crazy dude who has it 'for protection'? All of the above?" So if you're gonna write an article about it, why not actually use the information in the posts you have to dig deeper than a typical person would?
chook_slop@reddit
Now everyone is going to want one...
Yungjak2@reddit
To be fair, I already wanted one since OG COD:MW2
9bikes@reddit
Had I thought of it before the guy with the Ram truck did, I absolutely would have built one. I think it is hilarious.
TxManBearPig@reddit
Excerpt from article:
On Monday a Reddit user posted a photo to the r/Dallas subreddit showing a black Dodge Ram pickup truck headed north on what appears to be I-35 just before the Illinois Avenue exit. With the caption “Just another day in Dallas Roads,” the image shows a large, menacing machine gun mounted high in the back of the truck, pointing well above the cab with ribbons of ammo streaming from the gun into the truck bed.
BabyBearMan@reddit
Imma screenshot this and show my mother.

Don’t bother I already showed her this morning

I should send this to my niece, so she can discuss it on TikTok..

Instead, you should encourage your niece to seek healthy outlets like sports, music, STEM activities, or art and get off of social media.

sure, encouragement will surely defeat dopamine addictions by chinese algorithms
TxManBearPig@reddit
Here’s a tidbit for you, Cynical Cindy:
Learning and doing those things I mentioned ALSO create dopamine responses in us. Also, being a good adult to a child facilitates that child having positive dopamine and learned responses as well.

Here’s a tidbit for you, Gullible…Gus:
Tiktok literally engages the brain like gambling. It’s serious addiction.
TxManBearPig@reddit
I think we’re on the same side of this discussion. Lol. I think Tik tok is bad.
rockstar504@reddit
I can't even find the original post?
hevea_brasiliensis@reddit
Whoever's the author of this article is a fucking idiot. There's nothing dangerous about this. This is a law abiding gun owner, this is America, and this is Texas. His message is don't fuck with us, and I completely support that message.
DJRonin@reddit
I dont understand the raging boner for blood-thirsty violence. Isn't Call of Duty enough for yall to cosplay as heroes?

Simple. Display of defensive of capabilities. Just like the military.

It's more of a statement than anything, designed to elicit certain reactions in different people. Obviously it has accomplished this well.
Snap_Grackle_Poptart@reddit
And the statement is "I'm so afraid of everything I put a pretend machine gun on the back of my little-man-syndrome truck!"

That's normal in a secure, high functioning democracy.
AntiRepresentation@reddit
Lol, if you're gonna downvote at least tell me why.
Pabi_tx@reddit
I downvoted you for complaining about downvotes.
AntiRepresentation@reddit
Who complained? When I ask why a thing happened, I'm not complaining that a thing happened.
Pabi_tx@reddit
Does it make the downvotes hurt less to explain it that way?
AntiRepresentation@reddit
Who complained?

I'm going to print this out, scan it as a pdf email to myself, so when I get home I can take a screenshot of it with my phone to send to my dad in a text message.

Brings to mind the story from a few years ago where a local plumber sold his truck... didn't remove his logo and phone number and a few weeks / months later it shows up as a ISIS Technical ( pickup with a gun mounted in the back ) in Syria.
https://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/15/us/texas-plumber-sues-car-dealer-after-his-truck-ends-up-on-syrias-front-lines.html
VirtualPlate8451@reddit
I actually came across that truck in the original jihadi video that was published. I immediately found the company and realized it was still in business. It was one of those "somebody is losing a job over this" moments.
mylinuxguy@reddit
That's pretty cool. ;) You hear of people selling a car and leaving their license plate on and continuing to get NTTA Tolls sent to them... having their truck get converted to an ISIS Technical in Syria definitely one-ups that NTTA Toll situation.
Vig_2@reddit
Someone mentioned this in the original thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/Dallas/s/c12cAjpFwf
Tiiimmmaayy@reddit
Lmao I thought it was this exact truck for a second. Maybe ISIS had to sell off their inventory to make ends meet.
i8TheLastOne_@reddit
I’m in Brazil at the moment. Loaded Reddit while drinking coffee and saw this.
I leave for 1 god damn day and apparently Putin is nuking Alaska and we have Mad Max levels of insanity in Dallas.
pamalamTX@reddit
Putin is nuking Alaska? Will that be on Deadliest Catch? 😆
deja-roo@reddit
That's hilarious. One way to grab attention.
I wonder if this results in him getting pulled over more or less often?

StressAccomplished30@reddit
You didn’t take it personal did you? I almost feel kinda bad
not-actual69_@reddit
There isn’t a personal insult in that comment. I just assumed anyone thinking a mom squirting had some relevance to a Dallas observer article about a truck, has some issues and wanted to check in.
StressAccomplished30@reddit
Thanks for being available actually. Some stuff I do need to talk about
Nice_Ebb5314@reddit
Where can I buy one of these trucks…
