What are your kids playing with these days?

For parents who are raising gen alpha kids, what is cool for them?
Legos? Fortnite? Roblox? Nintendo? Hobbies?
Want to know what kids these days are up to.

My son loves Legos. I'd rather him do that, than play games on a screen.
I loved Legos as a kid, too. So, we can enjoy them together.

My four kids are between 6 and 16 atm. I suppose the two oldest technically count as GenZ rather than Alpha but the 16yo is on the old spectrum and does not have typical interests, and the 13yo is just barely ahead of the cutoff.
Shit they actually have used with significant interest for prolonged periods OTHER than screens: Lego, Nerf guns, jigsaw puzzles, play-doh, trampolines, magnetic construction toys, various classic board games. The youngest (and only girl) also plays a lot with dolls (not that the boys were ever prevented from playing with dolls, they just didn't form much of an interest). They all love swimming, two of them are really into drawing, two of them do tae kwon do, one is big time into football ("soccer"), one loves dancing.

Roblox, Minecraft, Nintendo Switch, and Legos. Oh, and they (2 girls 9 & 12) still love costumes (cosplay I guess?).

This is my 11yr (f) to a T!

Mostly Fortnite. But my older one plays Pokemon TCG and guitar.
My little one also plays Fortnite, but he'll tap out and move onto a Lego game on the Switch.
Both still enjoy Legos as well as Beyblade.

I’m a 58yo gen x. My oldest is 37 and my other son just turned 32. Neither one is playing fortnight as far as I know.
GreatGreenGobbo@reddit
Your kids aren't Gen Alpha. They are millennials.
This post was for younger Gen Xers that were late to the parents party.
Figured the Lego and Beyblades would be an indicator that we're not talking about 30something year olds.
spavolka@reddit
Really? After 37 years you’ve solved the fuckin mystery. Holy shit I was just making a joke.
GreatGreenGobbo@reddit
Shit joke.

Your response literally stopped me in my tracks. I was thinking this was some interesting free range retro-parenting!

My little princess has gotten a lot of mileage out of her stick on a string thing :)

I need to get a new one. It's seen better days.

All Fortnite. Literally nothing else

My son tried to get me to play that game with him when he was 5 and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't do it. I think anyone that grew up shooting asteroids and eating dots just can't mentally shoot people and build elaborate tree houses at the same time. It's like we're missing a new gene that evolved after 2010.
Bozodogon@reddit
On top of this, my twitch reflexes are completely gone as I've gotten older. I don't know if it's my bad eyesight, slowed neural processing or general aversion to being destructive the older I got but I couldn't keep up with my 13 year old. Maybe video games have gotten faster but I know I was better at them when I was only a little older. The top 5 score screens in the local arcade would attest to that. Too bad they all shut down.
Wild_Bag465@reddit
Funny thing is - the game has a lot of music. I was jamming to Green Day and Marshmello (don’t judge) and my kid was like “oh, I heard this on Fortnite.”
It was that moment that I finally connected with him 😂😂

Minecraft or Roblox.

My 11 year old loves Roblox, Xbox, and loves watching gaming videos on YouTube. Still into toy cars but other than that hasn’t been much interested in them. Likes squishy stuff

M46 here. My kids are adults but my nieces and nephews are gen alpha.
My eldest niece is into martial arts so she plays with a lot of faux weapons and some real stuff too - bow/arrows, nunchucks, throwing stars, darts and staffs. When she is not playing with that stuff she's online playing Minecraft or Dota 2 with some of her elder cousins.
My eldest nephew plays a lot of COD on PS3 offline solo or with my brother. When family comes over they play with him offline as well. When he's not on that he likes to spar with his sister or play some with some RC toys in his yard. He also has custom light sabers and is super into Star Wars. He reads the comics, watches whatever comes out with it and loves it all.
