The universe is 13.8bn years old. The first few bn years there could have been no life as there were no stars, no mass, only heat and energy.
That energy cloud eventually condensed into matter and the first stars were born. There were still no planets as all was either energy or hydrogen.
A few of those first stars went supernova. Billions of years later their remnants coalesced into new stars. The supernova created other forms of matter, heavier elements. Some of those stars also went supernova, but most are still burning.
Our sun, and our planet are part of the very earliest wave of stars with habitable rocky planets.
If life is sustained elsewhere in the universe, and it probably is, we could still be among the first advanced civilisation to have ever emerged.
The universe will exist for countless quadrillions of years. Many more cycles of supernovae will create more suns, more planets, more life.
We will remain among the first to have ever existed. In cosmological terms we are the ancient beings, the old ones, the first to have seen the universe and thought about our place in cosmological history.
This shit is what we will leave behind for future beings to ponder on.
I love the idea that amidst the nuclear apocalypse someone took the effort to take a meme from the internet and commit it to physical permanence. My descendants will worship at the altar of Uganda Knuckles

The phrase "nothing ever happens" does seem decently cryptic if you have no context for it.
