Happy Birthday to me.

You call yourself a 90s baby? But you were born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s. You were practically an adult when the 90s came around. I’m confused. I’m 53 and say I’m a child of the 80s.
OldSailor742@reddit (OP)
I graduated high school in 93. I consider that my fun time as a child

Happy Birthday to ya from Wisconsin!

Thank you!

I'm 49 so I turn 50 next year September. Never imagined what my life is like today compared to when I was 18. 50 seemed so far away then. I guess it really isn't that far off now! LOL
OldSailor742@reddit (OP)
nope. something my father-in-law told me that always stuck with me: "It goes by fast"
Remarkable-Ad3689@reddit
I'll nerd myself here, but I saw a theory online that made sense to me why time appears to go faster as you get older. For example, when you're really young, like 8, one year is 1/8th of your entire life. When you're 49 one year is 1/49th of your entire life so 1/49th of your life doesn't seem as much as 1/8th of your life. That idea really hit home with me and made sense.
OldSailor742@reddit (OP)
yeah I've heard that too.
um_chili@reddit
Another theory: as we age our lives tend to become more regular. When you're a kid, new shit is happening all the time--going from elementary to jr high to high school, or hitting puberty, or trying booze for the first time. Each year is very different than the one before.
But when you get to be an adult, shit is more and more the same. Lots of people have the same job and spouse for years, or if more than one they don't change that often. Fewer things are novel. So the difference between one year and the next is not nearly as dramatic as when you're young.
OldSailor742@reddit (OP)
That’s very true

Welcome to the Club. I’m 54 and still feel like I just turned 29.

Happy whatever.

Happy Birthday. As a gift, here's the song I'm currently obsessed with Clarissa Connelly - Give it Back.
OldSailor742@reddit (OP)
Thanks but I’m more of a clash of the titans man

I turn 50 in a few months. Born in 1975.
I have to say, being 5-15 years old for the '80s, and 15-25 for the'90s was just about perfect.

Happy Birthday from Spain!

Happy Birthday! I'm 55 now and don't think I changed as much between 50 and now as I did during my 40s. So where you are is where you'll be for a few years I think.
It's so fucking weird to a dude who used to get high and giggle at Beavis and Butthead and is now, like, old and stuff.
srgh207@reddit
Underrated observation right there. Fifties are the sweet spot.
blackpony04@reddit
That only matters if you stop giggling at Beavis & Butthead today.
My baby will be 27 in 2 weeks, the same age I was when he was born. I'm perplexed by that fact alone, but considering I just bought a Simpsons arcade game for my mancave that we can play together tells me the key to aging is to stay young at heart.

Welcome to the club. At what point do we all begin comparing prescription medications?

One of my vivid early memories as a child was seeing my grandmother for the first time (that I remember as she lived out of state) and thinking something like “oh my goodness, she is SO old. the oldest person I’ve ever seen! She’s so old and wrinkly.” She was 54. I think about that a lot now that I’m older than her and I look in the mirror.
blackpony04@reddit
To be fair, your gramma was old looking thanks to the styles at the time. I compare myself to photos of my Dad at my age (he passed at 60) and he still looked 10 years older than I do now at 54.
I blame it on lack of nutrition and vitamins in their youths and especially the lack of sunscreen. And you can still tell the sun worshippers of our generation apart from us cave dwellers today by just that.
DebianDog@reddit
Yes, she loved yard work and gardening. Outside all day. Mowed her own 1 acre lot in to her 70s. We finally got her to stop doing that but she would pick up any sticks or twigs in the yard until her death.
I never even remember my Mom using sunscreen on me. Sunburn meant springtime!
jtrades69@reddit
happy birthday! it's my bday too, 51 for me. i've only ever met one other person with today as their birthday even though it's supposedly pretty common.

Been 50 all this year, I’ll be hitting 51 shortly. Happy Birthday!
AZPeakBagger@reddit
Turning 50 was easy. I was still running mile splits within a second or two of what they were when I was in my 30's. Even won a small, local running event that year.
Turning 55 was when stuff got weird. Enjoy what you've got today.
fathergeuse@reddit
Happy birthday. I’ll be there on 12/12 😬
LeaderBriefs-com@reddit
51 here and just like most I still feel and believe in my heart I am 30. If not 26 😅
The 90s were hands down my most formative and favorite memories but I think with us the 80s shaped our early development.
bamfsig45@reddit
Been 50 for most of the year! It’s great.
