Flying clubs

For those that belong to a flying club, how do you communicate with other club members? I am mostly interested in message boards or social media outlets where members can share trips, share rides, let each other know about maintenance issues, have discussions about club activities, or possible new aircraft, etc. My current club uses flight circle for scheduling, but that doesn't really allow for a social component where people can interact socially. I realize a Facebook group could satisfy that, but not sure everyone in the club would want to join Facebook as that site is becoming more unpopular. Just curious what other clubs are using. Thanks

In my flying club, we’re not really interested in sharing stories and such. (We have 11 airplanes and 5 or 6 FIs.) Reservations are handled through a custom-built scheduling system. Maintenance issues are handled via log entries. Club management sends out a newsletter every couple of months. That’s about it.

We have a scheduling system that also supports official announcements. Members can get email notifications for this, so they'll see what's up even if they didn't check the scheduling website.
For everything else, we use Microsoft Teams. We've set up multiple teams (gliding, powered flight, etc.) which each have several channels (maintenance, ...). We also use WhatsApp group chat for coordinating with other clubs at the same airfield, because it carries less overhead and is more widespread.

We use slack. Easy to setup separate channels for each topic area. E.g. general, maintenance, announcements.

Group chat is actually insane. We also share a digital calendar lmao.

For normal communication, we have a WhatsApp group chat. We use it to talk about maintenance issues, ask for ride sharing, etc. It's our main form of communication.
We use Flight Circle for scheduling, and we also use it to share files/notes or blast out important messages to everyone in the club. We also have a member directory with everyone's name and phone number for direct communication.
We also have occasional club meetings or events like tower tours.

email, call people, talk in person don't insert an app where you don't need one

We have a Facebook group, but it's not super active. I mostly communicate directly over text with folks I've met at our meetings. There's also a monthly newsletter people can submit to.

Exchange phone numbers at monthly meetings or put your number on a post it board in your hangar.

My flying club doesn’t even have monthly meetings 🥴

Is your club equity-based? Like does your club actually own the airplane? If not, then in my personal opinion you're not really in a flying club.
If your flying club does own the plane and is not having meetings with the membership involved that seems pretty strange to me.
Coaralis@reddit
Yeah they own all the planes, it is strange. But hey they have a cheap rate on a 182, so can’t complain too much! We do a yearly trip though which is nice.
FlyingShadow1@reddit
Well ask your board if they could do an in person meeting. If you don't have a hangar perhaps you could do it at a house. Everyone brings a few dollars and you can have a small BBQ. Socialize that way.
If you're the one who organizes the events I guarantee you you'll get a lot of opportunities to network!
