Submission Statement:
Today is World Children’s Day.
In 2021, Air pollution killed 709,000 children under five.
One billion children live in countries at high risk of environmental disasters.
By the 2050s, eight times more children will endure extreme heatwaves.
River floods, wildfires, droughts, and cyclones compound the fact that before they even take a breath, in utero, their lungs, brains, and immune systems are under assault from pollution, disease, and their mothers stress response to extreme weather.
Catastrophic weather events destroy access to healthy food, and disasters like hurricanes and floods leave scars of PTSD and depression.
The cost of our indifference is the collapse of their future.
Happy Children's Day.

Humanity itself would have to drastically change at the very core of how we treat each other. We need to look at our children as a reason to not care about our own egos and lay down our selfishness and greed that is destroying our future generations and declare a war on the idea of them having a better future. Yet here we are we declare war on each other because our leaders will say they are different and dangerous when at the end of the day we are all human beings that deserve to live. Country wise I just see humans misunderstanding each other on a grand scale competing for power, fighting over what little land and resources that is left to fight over. If only we could civilly discuss, unite, disarm, and properly share there would be enough to go around. If only the world would look to the stars and see how much land is truly out there. If the world truly tried I guarantee that our children will inherit the stars. We ought to live by the golden rule of treating others how we would want to, well I can only wish. Happy children’s day, I love you all. -P.s. I suck at writing so I’m sorry.

I'm turning 31 in a few weeks and I survived my first heatwave this April to May, have noticed how warmer the temps got from childhood, and have experienced how vastly different the pollution is from Manila to other places in the country that are still clean. I'm genuinely afraid for the succeeding heatwaves and how bad pollution will get. Maybe kids then will learn to wear face masks regularly and carry around their cooling fans or else.
I can't imagine how children from the next generation after Gen Alpha will fare, or even the succeeding ones after. I remember my grandparents telling me that during the November to February period of the 1970s, there'd be fog in Manila and people would be wearing sweaters at night. Now, people are still switching on their AC units in November.
I can't bring myself to bring kids into this world, especially at this state.

Don't forget the recent 4 typhoons. Understandable, as so many bad things are happening, bound to miss one or two. Not sure if such back-to-back typhoons have happened in the past, or witnessing the first time.

How could I have forgotten about that! That as well, we've had nearly a steady stream of typhoons in the past month, with the latest one (local name Pepito, international name Man-Yi) becoming a supertyphoon before hitting the main island.
I'll be damned if typhoons happens this frequently on a regular basis. These typhoons, though relatively weak, still will wear down a country that's already weak in rebuilding and disaster response.
What I am afraid of is when La Niña finally kicks in and we might see typhoons happen during its traditional off-season, ruining crop plantation schedules and other things.

Children are the future, but without a future. How ironic
