What do you think of loud exhausts ?

Have you ever thought if the sound annoys people and can also cause heart attack ?
LordMongrove@reddit
Is there evidence that loud exhausts cause heart attacks?
Not defending loud exhausts, but it sounds like a major stretch to me.

Imagine sitting in your home in silence then suddenly "Vrooopoom !!!" (Car just got started.). You need to experience it to believe it.
LordMongrove@reddit
Yes, just imagining it gave me a heart attack.
rudbri93@reddit
I lik a little burble, but thats all it should be as it passes by. I wanna hear it in the car, not in the house.
Sig-vicous@reddit
From a performance driving standpoint, I want to hear it in the car, especially to help determining when a shift is coming up. Shift lights/beeps are nice too. You're always glancing at the tachometer, but it's best to limit that to keep your eyes on the road as much as possible.
I find most factory exhausts need to be a little bit louder, but don't need to be deafening.
jrileyy229@reddit
From a performance driving standpoint, there is absolutely no reason you need a loud exhaust. Complete nonsense. Trying to claim it as a safety mechanism is even dumber
JCDU@reddit
Got any evidence at all that a loud exhaust can cause a heart attack? Because that sounds like total BS to me.
I don't think they should be banned, but here cops can stop & fine people for "antisocial behaviour" which can include hooning in residential areas especially late at night.
No_Bad2428@reddit
A well tuned V8 or Harley rumbling past my house at low RPM: nice.
Diesel bros & buzz boxes stomping on it at the stop sign at the end of my block and flying past my house, not so much.
redride10059@reddit
WHAT???
PurpleK00lA1d@reddit
I like loud to a point. It has to be functional as well, can't just be a fart can stuck on a Honda.
Mustang with a nice growl to it and maybe roars at wide open throttle at high RPM? Love it.
Mustang that barks and roars and makes my ears bleed at 3000 rpm? Hate it.
But also people need to be respectful with their cars and not be blasting down residential areas, especially at night. I love cars and modding them and my car is modded too. When I'm going through neighbourhoods I coast and take it easy on the gas. I hate when I'm woken up at night by some asshat in a Subie/Stang/Camaro/Honda/BMW/VW ripping up the street WOT because they think they're cool.
But most of all I hate Harley's because they're the most obnoxious. I'm just happy I only have to hear them in summer. One of winters sweet blessings.
JackeTuffTuff@reddit
It's great
Though screaming/ugly/just loud is horrendous, when it sounds good and is loud it's nice
TeamSpatzi@reddit
Did you really link a Reddit poll and assert it was actually representative of „a majority of people?“
Substantial-Worry813@reddit
What’s the fastest a woman had sex with a man after hearing his sound modified muffler?
BogusIsMyName@reddit
Depends on the car. Generally i want quiet. Very quiet. But on my charger i love that is has some, small, amount of growl.
HawaiianSteak@reddit
I thought it was dumb that the product leaders for the Integra Type-S tuned the engine to have "pops and bangs" (Acura's marketing words).
Sketch2029@reddit
This is pretty common on high performance cars these days. Apparently some people think it sounds cool.
Treebranch_916@reddit
If it means my turbo stays spooled idgaf
mannnnnwth@reddit
Kinda just gotta find that middle ground. In the future when 90% of people are electric everyone would collectively agree that a 1.5 stock civic is too loud because they got used to no noise on the road.
mannnnnwth@reddit
Pops n bangs also correlate to the exhaust set up so unless they straight piped it or some shit it should be fine as far as startling people goes
adsarelies@reddit
I have this thing for efficiency in machines. Noise (and heat) is generally considered as an undesirable by-product, a sign of inefficiency. I like machines that runs quiet and cool, with most of its input energy being converted into useful power output, not noise or heat.
Treebranch_916@reddit
Loud and slow is still slow
silbergeistlein@reddit
Trucks and Hondas that floor it while screaming and ten minutes later they’re about 500’ further down the road than when they started are the coolest. /s I love a good sounding engine, but I’m sick to death of these slow pieces of shit making themselves way too known for way too long.
HawaiianSteak@reddit
Lol. I also don't like fast cars that are loud when going slow because the owners got it tuned that way so that they can seek validation and attention when rolling by a car meet or the high school popping and banging down the road.
silbergeistlein@reddit
Oh, I get what you’re saying now. I guess that depends on the car. If it’s got a big cam and it’s a genuinely a fast car, then I won’t mind. If it’s a straight piped FD RX-7, I won’t mind. If it’s a 2004 F-150 with a 5.4, then yeah, I’ll mind.
mannnnnwth@reddit
My exhaust pops every once in awhile lduring a few hour drive but it’s not very loud I don’t think cuz I didn’t even notice it until a friend pointed it out
silbergeistlein@reddit
No, you misunderstood. I was referring to slow cars that are slow that are too loud. If it’s actually a fast car, then it doesn’t bother me at all.
mannnnnwth@reddit
Idk why you got downvoted. I got a Honda v6 n it’s got a borla s type and I’d never do anything more to it than that due to it just being annoying and corny. It’s got a nice rumble on a cold start and while accelerating but you couldn’t hear me cruising through at neighborhood speeds.
silbergeistlein@reddit
I figure I made someone with a loud/slow vehicle sad. Maybe they should get off reddit, and go fix their shitty exhaust. Ha
mannnnnwth@reddit
Prolly so, I just don’t get how someone would intentionally like being annoying. Or maybe they can’t grasp the fact that other people don’t think it’s as cool? There’s times where I worry if mine is TOO loud so when I start it I’m always looking around hoping nobody took a notice which nobody ever has to my knowledge so that’s a good sign😂
silbergeistlein@reddit
Based off everything you described, I’d say you’re good. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a subtle exhaust that you enjoy.
Knotical_MK6@reddit
Keep it within reason. Modified exhausts are fun
mannnnnwth@reddit
Imo it’s fine if u are able to hear it on the highway or on the street accelerating a good amount but if you are just pulling into the gas station at 10mph the whole place shouldn’t shake. (P.s for those of you who like accelerate hard as shit around the gas station parking lot, stop. Nobody is thinking you are cool) I see this like 10x a day and it’s always challengers.
Hyperspec42@reddit
I like cars that are loud when accelerating, but still able to be heard a little when not accelerating
Blue8Evan@reddit
Not really fair to say loud exhausts CAUSE heart attacks, those are triggered by already poor health and stress. There are much more stressful things in life than a loud exhuast. But yeah, most people dislike exhausts, expecially loud ones. The only people who like them usually are car guys, to which I say, to each their own. I love a good sounding exhaust, but I don't like it when I hear it in my house a mile away from a major road. Imo people who drive obnoxiously loud cars just aren't considerate of others, and usually don't have good sounding exhausts anyways.
This is why I love valved exhausts. Loud on track, quiet in a neighborhood. Best of both worlds, but people with stupid loud exhausts usually don't even have an actual exhaust setup in my experience, just a shitty straight pipe or muffler delete on an old decaying civic, let alone an expensive and complex valved exhaust system.
Gasstationdickpi11s@reddit
Loud and good sounding is fine. Straight piped piece of shit is not fine.
