Are We At That Age ?...

Are We at that age where we enjoy Naps? I mean growing up naps during the day was considered weird and out of the Question!! . I mean we only laid down at night to go to sleep that's it. I mean even watching tv in the living room as a kid I wasn't allowed to lay on the sofa. ๐ I'm Not kidding ...I had to sit upright to watch TV or else go to my room. So now in my middle age I appreciate a nap in the middle of the day. Anyone else??!

I'm 49. I've always enjoyed naps.

46 here, and ever since my first kid was born, naps have moved WAY up the โany time, anywhereโ charts.
nygrl811@reddit
Same. Started in college.
ivyjade42@reddit
Oh yeah. But now if I nap I canโt sleep at night. ๐
Eastern-Ad-5253@reddit (OP)
No problem for me ๐
bjb8@reddit
I do like to nap after meals, so after dinner, although after lunch I could too if I wasn't at work.
My wife picks on me if I do so though so I avoid it. And too much nap time can mean a bad nighttime sleep.
Dark-Empath-@reddit
Never been able to nap, my body tells me sleep is for bed at night. No matter how much I actually need it.
I think it partly might go back to when I was younger. I had the flu and was in bed during the afternoon. I fell asleep for what felt like ages. Woke up and it was dark, I heard voices and went downstairs to check. Family were in chatting away. Turns out I had been sleeping for an hour or two only, but I thought it was the next night. Totally confused and bewildered. ๐ฏ think my brain made a promise to itself right there and then that it wasnโt doing anymore of that Twilight Zone - sleeping during the day - shit again.
Deamonchild666@reddit
I never took naps. The few times I did,I woke up with a splitting headache, and was a little confused. I'm 51 and never take naps to this day.
Eastern-Ad-5253@reddit (OP)
Well least your Honest. I can't function without a nap .
elijuicyjones@reddit
Iโve been napping for forty years no lie. I donโt know how anyone lasts a whole day without a nap.
Judgy-Introvert@reddit
Iโve never been able to nap outside of being sick. I know several people who take a nap after work. Itโs weird to me.
PatchesCatMommy2004@reddit
Naps are awesome!
Life-Unit-4118@reddit
I live for naps!
Hypothesis: Naps are better on the sofa than on your bed.
Discuss.
violet715@reddit
Agree. I canโt nap in my bed, it just doesnโt feel right.
Ihaveaboot@reddit
Lazy Boy recliner - best nap investment I ever made.
The more gaudy looking the better - the tasteless appearance means it's comfy.
RunningPirate@reddit
Iโve been at that age for a good 20 years, at least. I can do a quick 20 (down to the minute, sans alarm, oddly) and be recharged.
OccamsYoyo@reddit
You know whatโs weird? I napped constantly when I was younger but now that Iโm 51 Iโm up at five am and in bed by nine with no sleep breaks in between. I just donโt feel the need anymore.
MyriVerse2@reddit

I've been up for an hour and a half. I'm already ready for a nap. Nothing wrong with napping!

Been napping since sophomore year of HS (c/o 87). Not religiously, but I will if I feel the need and can.
Also, I canโt sleep without meds and am in the worst shape Iโve ever been, which may be part of it.

I crave and need them and my wife and kids act like I am murdering someone when I take them so now I have Nap Shame and try to sneak away to cheat on them with my naps when they arenโt looking.

If I lie down, I'm pretty much guaranteed to fall asleep. It doesn't matter if I'm not particularly tired, or what I'm doing. It's like some weird form of narcolepsy or something. I have to read sitting up. No matter how good the book is, I'll be totally into it one minute, and then the next thing I know I'm having a rude awakening as my kindle hits my face.
I even fall asleep at the dentist. Not just cleaning-- drilling, root canal; I even fell asleep once while having a tooth extracted (under local anesthesia). I dozed off and woke to the oral surgeon loudly asking me if I fell asleep. I thought he was angry at first, but in retrospect, I think he was just incredulous.
Eastern-Ad-5253@reddit (OP)
Lol Wow Oh Wow. But You know what about two years ago I was in a phase where I did the same thing. I mean it would be times I would randomly be watching something on my tablet and next thing I know my daughter would be shaking me saying Ma your snoring. Turn off your tablet ๐๐๐

They're just plain happening, whether I enjoy them or not.

Optimal-Ad-7074@reddit
i've lived for naps ever since i became a mother. that rare freedom to lie down and sleep is so delicious.
rheumatoid arthritis changed things again. that's a disorder where you can wake up feeling fine, but it's like your gas tank is only a tablespoon deep. and it refills on an extremely slow drip. i'd get dressed and brush my teeth and put my shoes on, and then i'd make it as far as the door and turn back. i'd sleep pretty much straight through flares on weekends, and then end up on the far end with my sleep all messed up just in time for work.
so now i do love napping but i'm always a little bit nervous in case it's a flare nap and not just a nap.
Andovars_Ghost@reddit
While I appreciate a good nap, I wish they were more a choice than a need many days. Iโd rather have the energy to do more stuff.
nonojustme@reddit
I guess I'm a little different than most people, but to me what's fun (and what I intend to do once I retire) is just go to sleep whenever I feel sleepy and wake up whenever my body feels like waking up, no matter the time, no matter if it's day or night, no matter if it's considered sleep or a nap.
ApatheistHeretic@reddit
Love 'em! One of the most compelling benefits of working from home is the ability to nap over lunch.
stephenforbes@reddit
I am definitely starting to nap more. Usually a 30 to 45 min afternoon nap.
Eastern-Ad-5253@reddit (OP)
Yes that will do just fine!! ๐

Every day. I'm up before 5, so a nap between 1 & 2 in the afternoon hits the spot perfectly.

I want to be you guys so bad: I have the absolute guilts if I take a nap. Itโs stupid - weโre empty nesters, I have the flexibility in my schedule! My brain is broken, obviously
woodworkingguy1@reddit
I work from home and often nap on my lunch break. Not totally asleep but a deep rest. I have done many offshore sailing trips and we learn on a many day passage to enjoy the 20 or 30 minute naps since you are very lucky to get more than a couple hours straight of sleep in a 24 hour period.
home_dollar@reddit
I work harder than all of my younger coworkers and have a better attitude. My days off are for naps. I set an alarm, so never more than a couple of hours midday. I feel I have earned them
