The director saw a photo of him from the movie Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan a couple years prior IIRC (a role Lambert got specifically because he couldn't speak English and his severe near-sightedness gave him an "always looking to the horizon" feel when he took his glasses off) and thought he looked perfect for the role.
Whatās great about Highlander is they never tried to make sequels. Nope. They let it stand on its own, didnāt try to retcon stories about aliens or turn the franchise into some sort of speech about environmentalism, nor did they follow that up with some weird Japanese shit. They were smart enough not to do those things.
Lol I can always tell when someone isn't a true highlander fan. Me and my brother went and saw highlander 2 in the theater and loved every discombobulated minute of it. Because we understood that the narrative concluded at the end of the first movie. The sequels don't make sense... and that's the point. This movie was so spectacularly bad that Sean Connery would flat out deny his involvement. It was glorious.
Last week someone posed the question in r/music of songs that had a great opening but then went to shit in the end. My pick was Princes of the Universe. The opening goes so damn hard and then the second half almost becomes an operatic dance tune. But that first half is a face melter.
I was trying to explain Highlander to my 12 YO. Explained the background then said cast actors, a French man as a Scottish man and a Scot who canāt move past his accent as a Spaniard. Yet it was still exceptional
I remember Xavier but didn't catch he was the lead singer. makes me wonder how they got so many musicians as guest stars because Roger Daltry was in more than a couple episodes and those flashbacks were always some of my favorites.
I keep the One Vision CD in my car stereo. (It's an '07, and I bought the CD just to listen to it in the car.) Also have a son named Duncan for the obvious reason.
Thanks to the Highlander movies and show , I spent a lot of time practicing sword play with my plastic sword in my backyard. There was nothing cooler than a sword fight while being topless in jeans at that time.
The video is for Princes. Interestingly, One Vision was used in a movie, but not Highlander - it was used in Iron Eagle (teenager flies fighter jet to rescue his dad, peak 80s action film).
Muggi@reddit
Amazing (to me) aspect of Highlander: Lambert spoke virtually no English during filming. He MEMORIZED the sounds of his lines.
kjbrandon75@reddit (OP)
Lol he was also blind as a bat. That why he had that far off look all the time.
dascott@reddit
... how the heck did he even get cast?
StellaEtoile1@reddit
Ummm....did you even look at him???!!! š

With Henry Cavill as McLeod for the remake, I wonder who will be Kurgan
brngckn@reddit
I vote Tom Hardy for Kurgan
Sweet-Consequence773@reddit
Nice choice but I think it has to be someone bigger and more physically imposing than Henry to keep the dynamic of the original

A Kind of Magic album, the unofficial soundtrack to Highlander
kjbrandon75@reddit (OP)
Just like AC DCs who made who being the unofficial soundtrack to Maximum Overdrive.
astral-dwarf@reddit
But it plays through the whole movie. Doesn't that literally make it the sound track? Who made you?
sobuffalo@reddit
Ya the title track was written for the movie, the rest is a āBest ofā with songs from previous albums.
astral-dwarf@reddit
Interesting. I thought DT was also in it.

One hit wonder?! Nice try, Gen Z, wrong sub.

Imagine thinking you have me here. Xavier from the show was the lead singer for Fine Young Cannibals.
Grave_Girl@reddit
This discussion is clearly of the movie, though, not the show.
Simple-Purpose-899@reddit
And yet the actor was in both, so it's still valid.

Am I misinterpreting or are you seriously referring to Queen as a one hit wonder?
Simple-Purpose-899@reddit
Why the fuck would I do that? Fine Young Cannibals lead singer Roland Lee Gift was in multiple episodes as Xavier.
KickstandSF@reddit
Christopher Lambert had a song? Because you clearly canāt be referring to Freddie Fucking Mercury!?!

A Scot who is an Egyptian most recently from Spain.
