Sad to see this. I really wanted to see a truly libertarian president

why are you sad?
seatega@reddit
Because having a “pre-crime” agency that constantly spies on citizens is about as far from libertarian values as possible?
Hoopaboi@reddit
Are citizens actually being preemptively arrested though?
From the article it doesn't appear to be NSA-like spying on your devices. It's moreso monitoring things online and predicting when and where crimes may occur
I can see a private security company literally doing the exact same to better allocate their resources.
Tbh this sounds like a nothingburger or slippery slope ("they'll start with just public monitoring, next they'll break down your doors cuz they suspect you're a criminal!")
Honeydew-2523@reddit
my point exactly. Nothing about this actually says Argentina is breaking the NAP. It just seems like a smarter way to go from point A to point B

I saw a clip of Bill Gates talking about how AI needs to be controlled in case people use it to commit crimes or "spread misinformatiion". Mr. Gates ought to be the last idiot Milei takes inspiration from.

GOD DAMMIT MILEI YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE

Well this is disappointing.

This is likely my pro milei bias but I’m gonna play devils advocate here.
Unfortunately ai and technology is going to become a larger and larger part of law enforcement worldwide. Certain aspects like fraud detection, cybersecurity threat detection, communication and whatnot are going to certainly become ai driven at some point. Stuff like predictive crime is, and is always going to be, dumb, but it’ll be tested first. If this does reduce crime though it may very well put faith into Argentinas institutions, and people’s faith in institutions are one of the biggest factors for a country’s wealth.
That being said I still think it’s too much but that’s the way things are going to be.
CharlesEwanMilner@reddit
This is not necessarily bad. When you do something in public or online, you’re putting it out for others to see. It just shouldn’t violate NAP and be used to prosecute people for moral crimes.
mack_dd@reddit
It's at minimum gray area territory.
I'll wait and see how this plays out before I form a strong opinion one way or the other.
shabamsauce@reddit
Some folks are down voting you, but this doesn’t sound dystopian at all. Crime is getting more sophisticated, detection and enforcement needs to get more sophisticated. More crime is not good. Definitionally criminals are violating the NAP. As long as the government doesn’t violate people’s rights in their effort to enforce laws that the people consent to, I see no issue.

Summary from ChatGPT:
This document appears to be a ministerial resolution from an Argentinian security ministry creating a new unit focused on applying artificial intelligence to security operations. Here’s a concise summary:
Key Points: 1. The resolution creates the Artificial Intelligence Unit Applied to Security (UIAAS), which will operate under the Directorate of Cybercrime and Cybernetic Affairs.
Following the example of countries like the US, China, UK, and others that are already using AI in security operations
Key Functions:
Fraud detection
Implementation Details:
Must operate within existing constitutional and legal frameworks
The unit must follow guidelines for preventive work in cyber environments as approved by Resolution MSG No. 428/24.
This appears to be a significant step in modernizing security operations by incorporating AI technology into law enforcement and security activities.

Yeahhhh, and AI would say that......
