If we got to have laws put some sunset and efficacy times and requirements on them.
Subtle_Demise@reddit
Even the ones that do, they just keep passing bills to renew them. PATRIOT Act, NDAA, DMCA, etc.
Barskor1@reddit
That is the nature of the beasts.
ginga__@reddit
Every congressman should have to certify that they have read and understood any bill before they are allowed to vote yes.
ctr72ms@reddit
Can we add to that and quiz voters on candidates policies so they are forced to know what they are voting for?
Impressive-Fortune82@reddit
Can we add a bill that access to the Internet is only allowed by passport and it's visible under every comment?
33_044@reddit
That’s unconstitutional under the voting rights act
buchenrad@reddit
On top of that, there's nobody I trust to write the test.
staticattacks@reddit
It is and that's how our elections have all turned to shit in the last 10 years because they've weaponized the media against voters and now most are uninformed and misinformed
GrillinGorilla@reddit
So when the voters are quizzed, which part of the government gets to decide what the misinformation is and therefore, who gets to vote?
Instead, every bill should be single issue and therefore shorter and easier to read. And it prevents sneaky things from being added.
staticattacks@reddit
100% single issue bills, no more fucking riders
seanthenry@reddit
Make all bills have a set max length. Three pages single spaced (not including sources), times new roman 12pt font 1.25in header and footer .5 margins. After that is met the bill can be formatted to match the standard formatting and have sources added as needed.
GrillinGorilla@reddit
Bills should be single issue and “skirt length” haha
Long enough to cover the subject, yet short enough to be interesting. 🤣
Sad_Manufacturer_257@reddit
All for this.
ctr72ms@reddit
It's only illegal when you deny someone the means to fulfill the requirement. If you post the positions and force them to read them it's not illegal.
mrdoehimself@reddit
Every congressman should have to certify that they have read and understood any bill before they are allowed to vote ~~yes~~.
wallyhud@reddit
We need to pass the One Subject at a Time Act.
mrdoehimself@reddit
That would be amazing
jonesmz@reddit
Thats the read the bills act by downsizedc.org
Beautiful_Paint8860@reddit
Or no, for that matter
ginga__@reddit
I am ok with another without fully reading a bill. You can get partially through it and fund an unacceptable provision. Or it can be so badly written it is not understandable.
For the most part, bills take away rights and should have a high bar to pass.
Beautiful_Paint8860@reddit
On another hand, if someone is elected, it is their duty to take or oppose action when necessary and ensuring understanding of bills should be mandatory. Choices for citizens have real world consequences, and taking bills lightly does not reflect the seriousness of Congress.
odinsbois@reddit
Massie needs protection from the FEDS.
New-Possibility-7024@reddit
Nah, they always are willing to let one or two in there. They don't have the power to do anything, and they're a bit of a relief valve. Now, if it ever looked like they were actually swaying any of their colleagues, THEN he would have to worry, but they've all been bought and paid for so long ago, the powers that be don't have to worry about the occasional Massie or Ron Paul.
Subtle_Demise@reddit
Right. They just see guys like Massie and Paul as "old man yells at cloud." They're not quite controlled competition, but their influence has been severely neutered by widespread corruption.
BuhoBuhoGris@reddit
TFW you're still waiting for the official announcement of that promised Libertarian cabinet appointee.
Subtle_Demise@reddit
Best I can do is have a representative change their party affiliation at the very tail end of their career and then never work in politics again. At least there was officially a Libertarian in office...technically.
Hi-Wire@reddit
Hopefully single-issue bills will become a reality
drugdug@reddit
I think a great reform of congress would be a bill size limit. 1000 pages. Let them howl and show just how sick they all are.
AguaConVodka@reddit
I'm actually a classic liberal and southern Democrat, and I like Massie.
I've seen a few videos of him grilling people in hearings and he just seems like an honest politician that actually fucking cares. I'd vote for him.
BitBrain@reddit
If you can put up with Tucker Carlson just a little, Massie's interview is excellent. Great stories about his political origins and adventures in DC.
usedkleenx@reddit
Pelosi is a malignant tumor.
cysghost@reddit
That is a completely unfair and nasty comparison. What did malignant tumors ever do to you to deserve to be compared to Pelosi?
Individual-Arm9999@reddit
Massie is a legend
