My parents never bought this but man it looked good in the commercials. Probably was loaded with sodium.
NuovaFromNowhere@reddit
I immediately starting singing that jingle in my head!
Mid-Reverie@reddit
Dude... so did I. And I haven't seen this in years, decade even. They brainwashed us good šµāš«
Financial-Yak-4172@reddit
I sometimes sing this when I'm making chicken and I had no idea why. Brainwashed is right!
ultradongle@reddit
Same here, I also sing "Plug it in, plug it in" in that monotonous tone so much when plugging in electronics that my kids (11 and 9) sing it. Generational jingle trauma right there.
NuovaFromNowhere@reddit
I sing āplug it innnn, plug it inā too lol!
Normal-Locksmith6909@reddit
I still say this and nobody gets it.
Incontinento@reddit
Every time, lol.
Koss424@reddit
i going to say some of the best songwritters of the above generation wrote jingles.
Mid-Reverie@reddit
I was vegetarian growing up .. and yep I still sang the jingle. š
ijustsailedaway@reddit
I'm not vegetarian but I've never had this product and yet I sang it too.
Frosty_Cloud_2888@reddit
āBeef. . . Itās whatās for dinnerā
MessageSpecial3696@reddit
How about Pace picante sauce ending a commercial with "New York City?" "Get a rope" Ah, different times.
Frosty_Cloud_2888@reddit
I always look at the bottle is salsa and see where itās made.
Itchy-Apartment-Flea@reddit
I feel like chicken tonight, CHICKEN TONIGHT! I don't remember if we ever ate this. We were more hamburger helper people. This would play in my head randomly back then and is again today. Thank you.
Mail_Order_Lutefisk@reddit
I don't know why they call it Hamburger Helper. It does just fine by itself.
Downtown_Falcon_2127@reddit
does it go: š¶i feel like chicken tonight, like chicken tonight, like chicken toniiightš¶?
NuovaFromNowhere@reddit
You got it!
Downtown_Falcon_2127@reddit
im terrified that jingle was still accessible in the far reaches of my brain after all these decades
Zagmut@reddit
This is my fear: senile and drooling in my sunset years, brain rotted from decades of booze and weed and microplastics, mumbling jingles from my youth because that's all that's left upstairs.
mumble mumble buck buck buck eighty nine
NuovaFromNowhere@reddit
Omg Iāll take it!! Lol dementia is legit terrifying so I do get the fear. For me though, all I do is overthink so mumbling jingles kinda sounds like a mental vacay. Lol I spend most of my day mumbling stupid jingles to self-soothe pffttt š
Mail_Order_Lutefisk@reddit
My buddy, my buddy, my buddy, wherever I go he goes, my buddy
Bellabird42@reddit
Iām pretty sure Iāll be humming jingles interspersed with rants about GOT (yes, I am still bitter)

gumby_twain@reddit
Me too, which feels especially weird since like OP i never actually had this.
NuovaFromNowhere@reddit
Oh, I never had it either! How about this ā I didnāt even know it was like a sauce for chicken. I donāt feel like Iāve ever SEEN one of these commercials but I can hear the jingle in my head somehow! Lol
GroundbreakingAge591@reddit
Me too!!!!
ayaruna@reddit
I started doing that dance with the one arm chicken wing while singing it
laffinberry@reddit
Same! I had forgotten all about this one until this post and now it's stunning my head! š
NuovaFromNowhere@reddit
Right?! Hadnāt thought about Chicken Tonight in ages!
InevitableTension667@reddit
Not tonight. Maybe chicken tomorrow
VisibleCoat995@reddit
So are you sayingā¦beef. Itās whatās for dinner?
TitaniumMarbles206@reddit
Or porkā¦.. the other white meat
SilverParty@reddit
But do theyā¦..got milk?
anniemdi@reddit
It does a body good.
VisibleCoat995@reddit
Itās also part of the three course meal they liked to call a balanced breakfast.
cardie82@reddit
What about the incredible, edible egg?
InevitableTension667@reddit
See my other comment because I'm a weaponised idiot that didn't reply to this one
HollyCalamity@reddit
āMeet, The Chicken of Tomorrow!ā
InevitableTension667@reddit
Indeed. There was an advert over here for it with a Panda singing about it at one point .
Top-Web3806@reddit
My mother definitely used the chicken cacciatore one regularly.
RhubarbGoldberg@reddit
I didn't even realize it came in jars š
Like, how did I know the jingle and remember the commercials, but had no idea this was a jar product?!
malaclypse@reddit
Same, my mom used to buy it down on Sullivan Street, across from the Medical Center.
LadyMirkwood@reddit
This made me snort laugh
No-Slice-6509@reddit
On Sgt. OāLearyās beat?
Bia217@reddit
Same, I loved it
robkillian@reddit
I totally spaced that this was an actual productā¦ but the jingle goes through my head very often when deciding whatās for dinner.
myloveisajoke@reddit
Extra points: Iguana Tonight spoof from America's Funniest People.
Jaereth@reddit
My mom used to sing this and do the most sickening dance i've ever seen when she would make chicken. Horrible memories.
And we didn't even use the product. She used Shake and Bake - she just liked the song..
mykidsnever_call@reddit
NeonSomething@reddit
A few years ago, I proofread and playtested an RPG gamebook by a UK-based author - I'm in the US to be clear. There was a reference to this jingle in the book, so in my list of feedback I sent to the editor, I mentioned it's unlikely that anyone under about 35 would recognize this, so the joke may be missed. But I looked it up and found it's actually still going strong in the UK. So I had to revise my statement to "under 35 in the US." They kept it in.
Weirdassmustache@reddit
My parents never cooked and so I never got to try these. Weāre they as good as they looked?
malarckee@reddit
Another image you can hear! I always think of The Simpsons doing this but canāt find a gifā¦
qtjedigrl@reddit
Thank you for putting this dang song in my head
TacoDangerously@reddit
CarfDarko@reddit
Still a widely available product in the Netherlands.
elgigantedelsur@reddit
God damn it now I DO feel like Chicken Tonight
WeAreNotAmused2112@reddit
My mom wore that stuff out back in the day.
Purple-Haze-11@reddit
The jingle though.......Ironically I was looking for this in the aisle the other day. Used to be located by the hamburger helper section. I am pretty sure I never tried the product though.
TalesFromMyHat@reddit
I somehow read this in the same cadence as the jingle the first time I read it.
Now itās stuck on repeat.
PeanutNSFWandJelly@reddit
You can still get this online! You have to import it so it isn't cheap
kristosnikos@reddit
My family sung this jingle for YEARS!
OtherlandGirl@reddit
Iām sure it was but I loved this stuff! Always got the red one :)
draculasbloodtype@reddit
Sweet and sour chicken! The first time I had this was at a friend's house and I couldn't get enough. Now I just make it at home: Grab 2 bottles of this, pan fry some chicken, chop an onion and a green pepper, throw in a can or two of pineapple chunks, a jar or two of maraschino cherries, and a small can of mandarin orange slices, saute together for a minute or two, then add the sauce and simmer for 20 minutes, serve over hot rice.
Dr_Parkinglot@reddit
You could also serve it over ice cream. Holy fuck that sugar content.
LadyLoki5@reddit
well, yes, it is sweet and sour sauce, lol
even homemade sweet and sour sauce has sugar in it
seacookie89@reddit
The bottled sauce is already sweetened. I can't imagine how that recipe tastes with all that fruit and syrup lmao it's sweet enough to make your teeth fall out
VisualMany4709@reddit
That chicken cacciatore was the bomb back then. Started singing it as soon as I saw the bottle.
stego_man@reddit
I always have a different version in my head. I thought this was an SNL parody but I guess not, it was Americas funniest home videos at some point!?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-Q05TzltT4
Anorion@reddit
Came with that link in hand, but you beat me to it!
crackedtooth163@reddit
I FUCKING LOVED THAT
comdoasordo@reddit
When I was in high school I had this job shadowing class at the facility in my town that made these sauces and the other Ragu selections. I remember walking through into the production area and getting blasted with the smell of the flash-frozen ingredients they loaded into the process. It was a really neat facility and the whole area around it smelled like simmering tomato sauce when you drove by.
tiredmum18@reddit
My husband and I before we were married would have the lemon and herb one at least once a week. It was bloody delicious. Probably full Of all Sorts of crap. But delicious
Ninjachuckz@reddit
...chicken Tonght!!
BrattyTwilis@reddit
I remember the jingle, but I don't think I ever had any of the sauces from that line
black-kramer@reddit
same, never had it but the song is permanently seared into my brain.
I think they still sell it but I'm confident it'll be disappointing.
Mobile_Aioli_6252@reddit
God that jingle! Damn you Madison Avenue!
South_Tea5210@reddit
This jingle pops into my head all the time. I wish they still made it. We always served it over rice. It was delicious!
NoClipHeavy@reddit
Had this one night and absolutely wanted to hurl it was disgusting (I was 6)
sputnikrootbeer@reddit
It was so good after soccer ā½ practice
GamerCirca80@reddit
Wow. I knew the song, but not the product. Lol
ScaleEnvironmental27@reddit
Damn, I miss this stuff. The caccitori(red sauce) was so good. I still dream of that stuff.
Obvious-Hunt19@reddit
I immediately jingled it up in my head but... who'd have thought this was a jarred product? I assumed it was some kind of breading... what are you gonna do to chicken with sauce like this? It's chicken *tonight* so it's not a marinade, what the hell did you do with this stuff
JMan82784@reddit
I always wanted to try this and never got the chance to. I feel like I missed out :(
PhillyPhanatik@reddit
Literally anytime my wife says "I feel like..."
š¶I feel like chicken tonight, like chicken tonightš¶
JoisChaoticWhatever@reddit
NOO, that earworm of a jingle is in my head! Make It Stop!!
VectorB@reddit
Ugh. This always gets me now.
In middle school our class was horrible. Little middleschool shits all around. I cant remember what we did to be horrible this time around, but our teacher was trying to talk to us like we were actual humans, and we had just done something to hurt someone's feelings i think. The teacher led a deep heartfelt discussion about it and asked how that made us feel that we hurt another students feelings so badly. THAT kid, im sure we all knew, looked at her teary eyed and said..."I...I feel....I feel like chicken tonight!!" with flappy chicken arms. It broke her. She quit that week.
Ag1980ag@reddit
One pack of chicken breast+one jar of sweet and sour Chicken Tonight+one pot of Minute Rice=dinner for me when mom was rushed or cooking something I did not enjoy, like tuna casserole or daisy ham. Pure deliciousness.
VirgilsCrew@reddit
Wow. Itās crazy how you can completely forget something, but as soon as you see it again, or hear a jingle, or smell a smell, it immediately clicks in your head. The human brain is something else man.
p90rushb@reddit
I've been singing this to my wife every time we have chicken for dinner, for like 20 years. Kinda forgot about the arm-flapping... gonna add that part in to keep the spice alive.
Mediocre_Lobster6398@reddit
Please bring this back!
Turbulent-Bag7317@reddit
Lol. My people.
VixxenFoxx@reddit
I remember the commercial like it was yesterday. But my mother never ever bought it. lol. 1st off it was name brand? Too pricey. 2nd off it had a commercial? Too pricey.
sysaphiswaits@reddit
I donāt know what this tastes like, but I immediately started singing the song.
