I don’t want free shit I want to be able to play a nearly 16 year old game without having to pay for a fucking subscription, unless you own a physical copy of ocarina of time you can’t fucking play that shit without forking over 50$ for Nintendo online premium.
If I could drop 30$ one time for ocarina of time or majoras mask I would, people actively BEG to be able to pay for these games, but Nintendo doesn’t give a fuck.
Tbf, it doesn’t help when the prices for AAA games have increased lately, and half the time you don’t know if you’re getting a good buggy-less game, and since this whole Ubisoft thing, actually able to continue playing the game you bought.
I don’t remember when the last time a AAA game from a big studio was worth the price, at least on PC. (Are BG3 or Wukong considered AAA? Idk)
There's a reason movie theaters are closing. When people have so much choice today your game isn't worth $90. If they prices it like that I bet their sales tanks. Also, if they could sell it for 90 they would have done it already. What makes your game worth 90 when the random indie guy makes a much better game for 20?
Games were wildly overpriced when the $60 price was first established so if anything it seems like they're just now catching up to inflation value-wise.

Price wouldn't be an issue if the quality increases along with it. How many games this year have released above $60? How many of them justified the increase? Ubisoft touted their "first quad A" games and it was a boring, bug filled mess.
People are mad because even though the price has gone up, the games coming out are worse than then what use to be the standard.
Yes both are, because a game is classified as AAA when it has a high budget, is developed by a large studio, and is associated with high production values and marketing-
BG3 had a budget of over 100 million dollars, while Wukong had a budget of around 70 million*. (GTA 5 had a budget of 265 Million for reference)
"Large studio" is debatable, Larian has around 470 employees while "Game Science" last reported less than 150, theoretically they could both be classified as "indie"- (Rockstar for the record had 1000 people just for GTA 5)
I don't even need to go into production values and marketing, right?
*Though I couldn't find if that's 70 million US dollars or 70 million Chinese Yuan- which would shrink it to around 9.8 million US dollars.
How is it 'ruining' anything? The games are still roughly the same price they've always been, around $60 at launch. New AAA games were $60 in 2000, that's $110 today. Accounting for inflation, games have decreased in price by almost half, yet these companies are still making money hand over fist. If it was that bad, they'd be raising prices.
Physical media and packaging was a significant cost. They have been milking customers for a long time. How the fuck do you think it is acceptable to release an unfinished or unplayable game?
I'm not even a gamer but this corporate apologism is so fucking gay.
One of the reasons I didn't get an N64 was because of how expensive the games were. I just stuck with my PS1 because you could always find games on sale, even newer ones. I think Wrestlemania on the N64 was like $75 at launch, and on the PS1, it was $55.
Pirating is like a drug, it feels good during the short term, but has long term consequences for either yourself or the industry.
If everybody was pirating, nobody would invest their time and money to make any new games. Pirating older games might have have much effect on the industry, but its a gateway drug to pirating newer games which will have an effect.
The issue with this logic is that a lot of pirates never ever buy games. If they can't pirate it, they won't go and buy it, they just won't play it at all.
I pirated every game I ever had as a kid because my parents refused to buy me games. If I was unable to pirate a game, I just didn't play it because I had no way of buying it.
While Im sure that does happen, I see it as being similar to shoplifting. Sure, some people do it for survival, but there are many others that can afford the items but steal them anyway.
Im not making a moral judgment, Im just stating reality.
Both really. I wanna be able to own stuff instead of renting it. I hate the subscription normalization we’ve steered ourselves into. But if i could pay full price to own a 20 year old game i still wouldn’t want to. Shit‘s not a limited edition antiquity, the fact that it can be copied without any effort is why piracy exists, selling it for more than pocket change is greed.
If i can’t pirate it, chances are i still won’t buy it.
Go back to kindergarten and figure out reading comprehension. “If I could drop 30$ one time for OoT of MM I would”
The issue isn’t that I have to pay for it, I would gladly pay for the game, but not for a fucking subscription, I’m not gonna use the other 300 some games, never in my life, I want ONE game to play when I feel like, and I WOULD pay for it, but they WONT LET ME DO THAT.
Do you remember how back in the day when you paid for tv you had to pay for “packages” that contained multiple channels, but most people really only wanted to watch like 2-3 of the channels in some packages and the rest were just there to justify raising the price. ITS THE SAME SHIT.
Get Nintendo’s cock out of your mouth and then buy some reading glasses “if I could drop 30$ one time for the game I want to play I would”
I’m not gonna pay 50$ a year just to play like 2 games, because what happens in another year when I wanna play that game again? I have to pay another 50$, the whole system is designed to milk peoples wallets, so yes I’ll pirate the game and own it forever, because no one can take it away from me and they never will!

Right, so you do just want free shit? why is it so hard to admit?
For $50 for online premium you get both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for a year not to mention the rest of the N64 library and the SNES, NES, and Genesis library they have.
The subscription is a far better deal than than any form of buying the game outright or anything else any other videogame company offers for their back catalogue.
Just admit you want free shit! You people spend way too much time jerking each other off on reddit. Your opinions are so goddamn worthless it's actually impressive that you've created this echochamber where $4/month for an immense back catalogue is somehow a bad deal.
If they released an Ocarina of Time + Majora's Mask pack for $20 tomorrow you people would still be crying that it's too expensive, stop pretending otherwise.
The dude only wants majora's mask and ocarina of time. Saying 50$ for both of those + entire libraries of game is useless.
I don't know what your favourite food is but how stupid would it sound if only I can offer you that food. A single serving of that food everyday for 10000$ per year but it goes with 100 big Mac everyday. You can opt to not eat the big macs but you still have to pay for it. Sounds stupid right. Yeah that's how stupid you sound right now.
ok so you want Nintendo to release a Switch version that you get for free?
No one is denying that piracy is a way to preserve games. But when you people bring up old Nintendo games it's clear you just want a free version for the Switch.
I think they can just release older version of their games for free, but my favorite version of Ocarina and Majoras are the 3ds ones, that I already bought, My fucking ex girlfriend have my 3ds + the games, so i bought a new3ds, modded it and download all the games i love on It. I bought Ocarina for the 64, then I bought it again for the GameCube paired with Wind waker, and then the 3ds version, so if I play it on my modded 3ds or on an emulator, i feel like I already paid enough for It. Talking about Nintendo stuff, I have more than 30 switch physical games + all the other i bought on the Eshop, I have all the Consoles (except the Wii U) since the Nes, I bought all the Zelda, the Mario and the other relevant Nintendo IP, so If I prefer to play Wind Waker or Eternal Darkness, or SOTN on my emulators, you don’t tell me i just want free stuff…
You could get a 3DS, they have both of those Zelda games and if you get a New 3DS (not new but that's the name of it) then Majora's Mask will even have a more modern free cam option.
I haven't played Majora's Mask N64 yet but the OoT port is really well made, the updated models look great and the QoL changes are so good, mostly they just reduce how often you're going in and out of menus but that's so big for areas like the Water Temple.
Of course it's not ideal as I prefer games to be on the big screen of my TV (it's why I got DQ8 on the PS2 even though I got in on 3DS) but it's a really good way to play the game imo, especially since OoT also comes with Master Quest.
I also explained that I would gladly pay money for a one time purchase of the game instead of a dumbass 50$ a year subscription, because by the time I want to play OOT again it’ll probably be a year later and i’ll have to pay ANOTHER 50$.
Subscribing to be able to stream it doesn't bother me nearly as much as not being able to play a game legally without paying ludicrous prices weren't on the second hand market. There are a ton of games where Nintendo isn't losing money to piracy, but they still won't allow it.
Literally, even though it's a digital license I want to purchase it one time and 'own' it in my digital library. When it's a subscription it feels terrible cuz I only want to play two-maybe three games but now I need to subscribe to bullshit.
I would genuinely like to hear some Nintendo executives explain their takes on copyright and preservation. Do they think that someone playing Ocarina of Time directly translates into someone not buying TOTK?
It seems so odd that they have a ton of stuff that people would want to own, but they refuse to sell it.
its also hilariously easy to pirate those. developers have had so much time to make it simpler for people who cant understand github language like myself to crack their consoles, that the service you get is almost as good as paying nintendo. they even have servers and stuff (im talking about wiimfi here but iirc they have similar stuff for 3ds too)
the way they charge for stuff, you'd expect buying nintendo's subscription to be the only way you can play their games but its as simple as following a youtube tutorial
Here's the secret tho man, it's just like music and movies. You don't remember the old games that were ass because you didn't play them and there wasn't a constant 24/7 Internet hate/hype cycle dedicated to making you give a shit about bad games you'd never play.
You should definitely be able to judge the mainstream games of the eras though, most people are casual and play whatever is popular/mainstream. Imo there's definitely a glut of lazy, appeal to as many people as you can type games.
People had passion projects, but there also wasn't as much of an expectation that you would make a living. Now gaming has grown so much that it is a full on industry.
Furthermore, the modern economic climate around the world would stifle a significant amount of game dev creativity/time because it isn't feasible for someone to have a job and also try to make a whole game on the side. Being able to more clearly monetize has benefits in ensuring that more devs can actually make games. The problem is that people put money in and expect money out and there are plenty of companies just trying to push the arrow up, up, up.
You only think that cus you pay attention to the shitty ones. There are so many new games that completely blow all old games out the water like elden ring, hades, doom eternal, vampire survivor hollow knight etc. of course there are games that will always be classics and are amazing like half life, portal, castlevania sotn, duke nukem manhattan project etc. but there were plenty of shit games that you just tuned out cus they don’t really matter. If you just expand your tastes a little you will still find amazing games. It’s really multiplayer games and older AAA franchises that used to be good that are turning into garbage.
It genuinely got me addicted. The game takes its time to get its grip on you but when it does, it doesn’t let go. I genuinely have no idea why the game was this good and this much fun for me, it just was. There really isn’t anything that noteworthy in it but it still just so damn addicting.
It’s a little sad. I remember daydreaming all the time at school thinking of what future games would be like. Vanilla WoW, Elder Scrolls Daggerfall, Mount and Blade Warband. I didn’t grow up with any of these games, and they are absolutely glorious.
Last time I checked there was no way to legally purchase Unreal despite it being one of the most important FPS games in history and being the namesake for the most famous game engine currently used. All of that just because Epic is a terrible company and won't make it available on any digital store, including their own, or create more physical copies. It seriously wouldn't be an issue for me to spend like five bucks to buy it, but I can't.
I could even imagine how good "Unreal Tournament 2026" would be. Combine all the advancement in first person shooters and movment and add the Unreal silliness and big big booms with all those wonderful vehicles and id loose it.
Okay sure, but to equate it to UT is not at all accurate. UT had huge focus on gunplay over abilities, and while movement was a factor, it wasn't the main appeal, just a product of its time
I would say movement is a huge part of what defines arena shooters. CS is arguably all about gunplay/aim but it is slow and has very little vertical movement.
Yes, and CS is yet another game genre, which again, doesn't really equate to UT, as it's a tactical shooter, like deadlock, which is a moba. These are all false equivalents that will never feel like the other because they are not the same genre. To tell someone to play deadlock since they can't play UT is just weird? Because deadlock doesn't feel anything like UT (I enjoy deadlock though, don't get me wrong)
Call of Duty basically killed off those kind of bunny hopping shooters and took a more realistic approach which might be funny to hear but at the time bullet penetration through walls and not bunny hopping around was realistic in comparison.
Counter-Strike, not CoD. In early 2000s CoD was a very minor player compared to CS, focused on single player WW2 story telling. CoD4 was the first real competitor to CS from the franchise
Counter Strike was a PC game. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare came out on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 which gave it a far greater reach. Counter Strike also is more of a hardcore game which is limiting, you’d typically get one life and be facing players with cyborg like reflexes.
Well first of all, the context was Unreal Tournament and Quake becoming unpopular, which are PC games with some mildly popular console releases. Secondly, as I mentioned, CoD4 would have been a fitting example had it released much earlier. But by the time it released in 2007 CS was by far the most popular FPS, while Quake and UT were far past their prime.
people pirate games because these companies fell off, trashing the whole gaming industry, setting these st*pid subscriptions. i just want to pay one time, 1 f##king time, and be able to play a game as long and as many times i want. i don’t want my game to just delete or become unavailable just because that company decides they don’t want to continue with it or just because they don’t get enough profit from it. i. just. want. to. play. MY D#MN GAME!!! 😤
I pirated games when I was younger and now that I'm an adult with money I spend hundreds on games. Pretty sure I wouldn't do that if I didn't get such great access to them earlier.
Yes I don’t feel bad at all pirating games from a big ass corporation which has already paid all the money it will to the actual people who made the game before it even came out.
Piracy cannot be stealing because nobody loses out on anything, dumbass.
You buy a game, you get to play it. You don't buy a game, you don't get to play it. If you don't buy a game, and you still get to play it? That's stealing.
I have a little bit of money for rent, utilities, groceries etc but when it comes to entertainment I want free shit. I'm proud to have been pirating games and movies and music since around 2001.
I remember when Bethesda created the first paid DLC in Elder Scrols Oblivion with Horse Armor for $4.99. Some modder came out with better looking horse armor like a week later that you could download and install for free.
Free shit has kept me sane for over 2 decades while I wage slave to keep from becoming homeless.
From newsgroips to Kazaa and the birth of cloud sharing to eMule when intelligent corruption handling was first invented to the almighty torrent networks. Piracy will always be here for those who simply cannot afford entertainment.
Not a game, but right now you cant buy nor stream the English dub of shin chan. I love free shit, of course, but there is so much that can't be accessed without some form of piracy.
It is literally impossible to play "Castlevania: curse of darkness" on modern hardware legally. If it is possible please god let me know how. I just want to play it, it's a good game.
Literally the only Castlevania I was able to try because of demo discs for the PS2 like 15 years ago. I never got it because young at the time (no moniz) but I have now a rom that I may play some day. All I know is it was ok and there was some sort of pet
For real ive actually recently looked up how to play it, and it was only on my og Xbox which the power supply failed so I can't. It was my first castlevania game and I always wanted to go back and replay it after playing the others but nooooo
ps2 for me. I got to point a few hours in, and the game froze. I rebooted the game, it froze again in the same spot. I bought a second disc, it froze in the same spot as well. My ps2 is in storage now.
Are you this brave when you pay money for all the other things you buy from multimillion dollar companies? Or do you pay like everyone else because your defiance dries up in the face of consequences?
I never said I was stealing anything. "purchasing" a game online grants you a license that can be revoked at any time. if I don't even own it why should I pay for it
Wow that's crazy, you couldn't even handle the consequences of getting called out online by someone you'll never meet. Speaks a lot about your defiant nature.
why should I pay for it
Because when the owner of something doesn't want you to have something without paying for it, you don't get to say "but I wanna" and get it. You wouldn't use this preteen logic for anything else.
If purchasing isn't owning then pirating isn't stealing
I now unironically believe this after being one of those whose The Crew privileges were yoinked(although I got lucky, I got The Crew for free during their 30th anniversary giveaway but still so at least I didn't lose money)
Only exception is GOG since those Polish wizards let you download installers no questions asked you can actually own a copy of a game for as long as you have storage space to spare
No, you don't get it, people paid for The Crew and yet they don't get to play. If this is fair game than so is the logical inverse, I don't pay for a game and yet get to play.
You know what you can do to discourage companies from doing that? Stop buying their games, stop advertising for them.
But you don't care. You don't care about game preservation. You don't care about The Crew. You just want to play games for free and you want to feel good about it.
You know what you can do to discourage companies from doing that? Stop buying their games, stop advertising for them.
Already doing that. Well, tbh I did buy The Crew 2 when it went for a buck because at this price it felt like if I bought it I'd be scamming Ubi - and after playing it I'm not sure whether it was actually worth that much. And the map being basically the same as The Crew they took from me feels like a scam so I guess me and Ubi are even
But you are right, I'm inclined not to buy any more games from them, I don't even plan to pirate any of them even though I do believe it would be morally justifiable.
But you don't care. You don't care about game preservation. You don't care about The Crew
I do actually. It got yoinked from me. And I loved playing Skate 3 whenever I was at a friend's house, who owned it - it's really good game and I do want it preserved.
You just want to play games for free and you want to feel good about it.
I really don't. You know what my first instinct was when I had the itch to play Skate 3 again? To buy Skater XL on Steam. Because I heard it's the closest to a spiritual successor to Skate franchise there is on the market. But playing it I realised it's not a good substitute. Only then I looked into emulation.
I didn't. However, every single time piracy is brought up, this excuse is wheeled out, and the far more problematic piracy is just ignored. So I'm asking you directly if you think that pirating the newest games is ok.
I didn't even I say I think pirating is ok, I don't. I literally just said I would like to be able to play an old game. one which I own 2 copies of, but neither work. You just assumed I thought it was morally acceptable to pirate. Other people in this comment section have said that they think it is acceptable to pirate, I have not said that it is not something I believe.
The complete Adobe suite, literally all of it, is €20 a month if you say you're a student. How is that not worth it to get immediate updates and full support without the hassle of piracy.
I deleted my pirated copy of ultrakill during sales since I could afford it. Why? Perhaps because if you give people a better service than the pirates, then most people are going to be willing to fork that cash.
Netflix and Steam were creative with this concept in mind
The only way i was able to play Spec Ops: The line a few weeks ago was through piracy. The game is only 12 years old, but you can't get it anymore. With the decline of physical medium (even games that have it need downloads for important updates), the only way to actually own a videogame and preserve it is having a cracked version of it in a hard drive.
Movies can easily be preserved by just recording your monitor while you stream it, and blu-rays are very much a thing you can buy no problem. But it's much easier for games to become lost media, so yeah, piracy is the way right now.
If you wouldn't be able to buy it anyway i personally think it's ok. I think the same for books, movies and everything in between, culture and art should be available to people even if they can't pay for it. But if it ends up being something you like you should probably pay for it eventually, especially if it's something from smaller creators.
Most people who can afford to buy will opt to buy instead of pirating, simply because buying is safer, more convenient, and you get online-features like multiplayer or workshops. It's those you cannot afford to buy in the first place that pirates (and thus will barely make a dent on a company's bottom line).
It's very different from stealing something material, there is that stupid saying "you wouldn't pirate a car". The thing is, when you pirate you make a copy of something for yourself, you don't take it away from anyone. So all the company loses is the transaction, not actual product.
Why is it ilegal? Why do companies spend money trying to avoid pirating? Because pirating CAN have a significant impact on sales numbers if it goes unchecked, and it has hurt other industries in the past too, but i do belive the gaming industry has mostly adapted to pirating, and games aren't really that affected by it anymore, even then, companies like Nintendo are still spooked by it, and go out of their way to sue developers of emulators, unnoficial ports and even fan games. The thing is if you pirate in the way I think is 100% correct, the company doesn't lose anything, you are only pirating if you wouldn't be able to buy the game anyway, so instead of not buying the game and not playing it... you don't buy the game but still play it. There is even a case to be made that it's good for the game being pirated, as the person who played it is now invested, and might eventually buy another game from the company, like a sequel, or even the same game they already played, if they just didn't play the game because of not being able to buy it, that would just be a lost customer. I think this is generally how people aproach it nowdays too, as it's much easier to just buy the game if you can.
I pirated a lot of games when i was a kid, i just didn't have the money to buy them, nor did my parents, nowdays i spend an embarassing ammount on the games I love, but i don't think i would even have had gaming as a hobbie weren't it for pirating when i was younger, being able to play all those games is what allowed me to develop my care for this industry.
Am i talking to a judge right now? Oh I'm so sorry your honor, didn't know the reddit court was in session here.
I'm not trying to defend theft from a legal standpoint, but a moral one. I'm saying it's ok for you to commit this crime depending on circumstances, even judges come to this conclusion sometimes and pardons the crimes, but you clearly are someone who thinks the law is holy and always correct. A starving person stealing an apple from a rich vendor is also ilegal, so you think it's wrong? You think the person should starve so they don't cost the rich guy a couple cents?
And before you say it's not the same thing, as your seemingly intentionally dense arguments point towards you doing, i'm using an extreme case to show you that because something is ilegal doesn't mean it's wrong, it depends on the situation, it also applies to less extreme cases. And i do belive poor people having access to culture is an important matter.
"Why would you pretend the physical version of stealing applies?"
Pay attention, my whole point is that it doesn't. My point is that digital theft is even less harmful to the one being stolen than physical theft, as the company doesn't lose any product, future sales aren't impeded, unlike physical theft, where the stolen thing can't be sold anymore. A middle schooler would have had the reading comprehension to understand this.
My point is that digital theft is even less harmful to the one being stolen than physical theft, as the company doesn't lose any product, future sales aren't impeded, unlike physical theft, where the stolen thing can't be sold anymore.
So much less harmful that companies spend millions trying to stop it. They're just doing it out of spite though right?
Are you using chat gpt to rebute this? I said is that it is less harmful to support other arguments in my previous comment, where i went more in depth as to why companies do this, i ain't explaining again, go back and read that if you want.
Do game devs of one company speak for the game devs of another company?
Notice how you abandon a point you brought up the moment it gets pushback? You don't give a fuck about a single one of these points, you just want to steal games and get away with it.
My point has always been that pirating does not affect sale thus hurting no one, I'm not sure how you misconstrued my arguments into whatever you're sperging about. I used to pirate, I don't anymore because I can actually afford to just buy them now.
Because the decision making people at the top are out of touch with the rest of the gaming community and just pass whatever policies and decisions that sound good to them. Sony spent $400 millions to develop a $40 hero-based shooter that no one asked for and no one wanted. Mistakes happen, and just because companies are big do not mean they will always make the most efficient decisions.
The decision making people are the ones who care about the money. In your understanding, that means they'll spend millions to prevent something that doesn't affect their income?
I've literally just said because they are not infallible, they make mistakes all the times that hurt their bottom lines (like Concord), but I'm sure you're well aware of my points already and is just being ignorant for the sake or arguing.
Idk man, it's not the end of the world or anything, but the people who made the game deserve to have their work payed for. If you played their game and enjoyed it enough, or played for a long time, when you have the money you should pay for it, if you don't then i guess you can't blame anyone when your favorite developers stop making games. If you like videogames you should at least sometimes pay for them, if you like movies too, same with books, but if you would need to forefit your monthly groceries to do that i wouldn't judge you for not doing it.
If you pirate for preservation's sake, then IDK what harm that's doing to the company itself. No game company is making money from a physical copy bought from some rando in a BK parking lot.
Back in the days when most people's internet couldn't support download or streaming, pirated movies were a big commodity in countries where distribution wasn't that great.
fr tho lol. if nintendo are selling it, even if its at 60 dollars and you pirate instead of buy it, you want free shit lol. it all boils down to you wanting free shit
I hate not being able to own the shit I buy. I pirate more movies and shows than I did 10 yrs ago because so many fucking studios won't release blurays anymore, and I'm not paying $20 for the rights to watch a movie on a platform that won't exist in 10 yrs
All I'm saying is if the law wasn't rigged by corpos then it would be automatically void the same way originally copyright was void after 25 years after the original work was released
Public domain exists for a reason and I believe same way Steamboat Willie entered it (not by Disney "giving up their license"), works of art no longer being made available by their rights' owners should enter it as well.
Netflix released some culturally significant shows like Bojack Horseman, Squid Game, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, etc. and I don't believe there should be a possiblity of losing those works due to Netflix going bust and them ending up in copyright limbo
So you're saying that you should be able to break the law, you should be able to decide what gets done with someone's property, because.... you want to?
People who pirate current gen are scum, but I’ll be damned before I play Pokemon emerald on original hardware by giving sine douche far over original market value. Not to mention, I like my turbo button
No. I only get a drum free copy of what I already bought and preserve it myself on external drives in case Steam goes down, bans me or if the owner removes the game from stores like steam (which happens, I still am a mad about Codemasters removing the first race driver grid and only giving worse products afterwards, thankfully I have a copy on a drive and I have the game for 360)
If companies let me buy their game legitimately i would buy them, but when your only option to play some games is to find an overpriced second hand copy then i dont see another option.
I love how everyone’s kinda proving the point by talking about some niche 2000’s games that they can’t buy. when in reality most piracy is the newly released AAA game.
There is literally no way for me to play splatoon 1 while giving Nintendo money. Me pirating it is a net neutral for them. They loose nothing. Port it to switch? I might buy it. But as of now? What’s the big deal
What difference does it make to Activision whether you buy it buy a second hand copy or not? They don't get a cent of it anyway (that's why during 7th console generation companies tried to combat the second hand market btw) and if they are not selling it, well, their loss.
If your car breaks down but there aren't OEM parts are you gonna scrap the whole thing because aftermarket parts are intellectual theft?
It does matter, your car's manufacturer doesn't let drive without that broken part. Do you believe you don't deserve to repair your car and continue driving it?
I believe in archiving stuff for future generations and for games that entails being able to play them.
And yet you justify pirating all games with this bullshit excuse.
Not all games, only those which can't be owned and which aren't indie.
Who do you think you're fooling here?
Who do you think you are fooling? Your whole argument against any moral justification of piracy relies solely on the fact it's not legal despite the fact legality and morality are only tangentially related and something being legal doesn't make it automatically moral and vice versa and all permutations.

Law literally exists to enforce a society's morality. It's insane how far you'll go to try to justify theft.
It's insane how far you'll go to try to justify theft.
You didn't go far enough in trying to justify that piracy is morally unjustifiable - in cases where your right to ownership is freely ignored - or even that it actually is theft in cases of abandonware
I mean, I asked you a question whether fixing your car with aftermarket parts in lack of OEM ones is also theft according to you - which is pretty closely analogous the latter situation - and you refused to answer
It's so bizarre the moralizing people do to mental-gymnastics themselves into being "ethical" pirates. It's stealing. I steal, you steal, we do it because we can. It's not right, it's not good, it serves a selfish desire. Sure maybe there's some ad hoc justification we can slap on to feel good about ourselves, but it's really just a cope. Accessibility piracy is the closest to reasonable, but you're still stealing at the end of the day.
Virgin: You see I support game preservation that's why I emulate
The Chad: oh cool, I can download all my childhood games for free?
the following is a joke I don't condone piracy
Jokes aside there have been instances where games were unavailable in digital shops recently The Crew is an example, driver san Fransisco. Even if you don't care about these games it could happen to your favorite game as well one day
There's only two ways to get GTA San Andreas in it's original release format with the complete soundtrack, and that's by pirating, or just hoping to get lucky coming across a physical copy somewhere. In this case, pirating is a perfectly viable option
Rockstar took down the previous version and replaced it with the mobile port version done by GSG. This is because some songs on the soundtrack had their license expire and so they couldn't be used any more. This version is missing stability and bug fixes from previous updates to the original version available on steam, 1080p resolution, and 17 songs removed because of the aforementioned license expiry's.
Oooo your mom joke, so clever, what a clever man you are. Its funny that you justified buying a dildo for yourself by saying you bought it for someones mom. Just own up to having for your ass buddy
Currently, Transformers: War for Cybertron, widely regarded as the best Transformers game ever made, is only accessible by piracy. It was taken off all game stores including steam due to licensing issues with Hasbro. The only ways left to play it are to buy it second hand for pretty ridiculous prices, or download it off Internet Archive.
I try not to condone piracy, because it can easily sound like I do indeed just want free shit to a lot of people. But the truth is it’s important! These companies don’t care if these titles which dozens if not hundreds of developers worked for years go extinct. In these cases It’s up to the people do preserve media they care about lest they be forgotten.
Its impossible to play lord of the rings conquest, battle of middle earth if you dont hsve a physical copie. Thers no reason for a publisher to argue against piracy if rhey dont want to sell the game at any cost.
Listen, companies already made billions from the game I usually download for free, and if they don’t make the available in a reasonable way, the option is out there… Modding communities did amazing things with old games, and we support those companies buying new stuff.
If they stop selling the game then piracy literally doesn’t even affect their profits anymore because there is none.
The only reason game companies don’t release it for free is to keep it in their back pockets for a future trash remaster that only exists to pad their quarterly reports.
The older i get the more i think digital preservation is actually essential. Im sure most people crying just want free shit, but that doesnt diminish the value of preserving these things. So many awesome and interesting things from the digital age have already been lost
ChoiceFudge3662@reddit
I don’t want free shit I want to be able to play a nearly 16 year old game without having to pay for a fucking subscription, unless you own a physical copy of ocarina of time you can’t fucking play that shit without forking over 50$ for Nintendo online premium.
If I could drop 30$ one time for ocarina of time or majoras mask I would, people actively BEG to be able to pay for these games, but Nintendo doesn’t give a fuck.
Deldris@reddit
Nobody disagrees with that, it's the guys going out and pirating every new AAA game that are ruining it for everyone else.
21Black_Mamba21@reddit
Tbf, it doesn’t help when the prices for AAA games have increased lately, and half the time you don’t know if you’re getting a good buggy-less game, and since this whole Ubisoft thing, actually able to continue playing the game you bought.
I don’t remember when the last time a AAA game from a big studio was worth the price, at least on PC. (Are BG3 or Wukong considered AAA? Idk)
Deldris@reddit
If games kept up with inflation, they'd be $90.
goatpenis11@reddit
They are in my country :(
InquisitorMeow@reddit
There's a reason movie theaters are closing. When people have so much choice today your game isn't worth $90. If they prices it like that I bet their sales tanks. Also, if they could sell it for 90 they would have done it already. What makes your game worth 90 when the random indie guy makes a much better game for 20?
Aniquin@reddit
Games were wildly overpriced when the $60 price was first established so if anything it seems like they're just now catching up to inflation value-wise.
InquisitorMeow@reddit

NsaLeader@reddit
Price wouldn't be an issue if the quality increases along with it. How many games this year have released above $60? How many of them justified the increase? Ubisoft touted their "first quad A" games and it was a boring, bug filled mess.
People are mad because even though the price has gone up, the games coming out are worse than then what use to be the standard.
21Black_Mamba21@reddit
That’s… what I said.
sn4xchan@reddit
Ironically the only AAA games I've bought at full price were Nintendo games. They were worth it.
BackseatCowwatcher@reddit
MetaCommando@reddit
GameCube 3DS and Wii Virtual Console
airfryerfuntime@reddit
How is it 'ruining' anything? The games are still roughly the same price they've always been, around $60 at launch. New AAA games were $60 in 2000, that's $110 today. Accounting for inflation, games have decreased in price by almost half, yet these companies are still making money hand over fist. If it was that bad, they'd be raising prices.
JtripleNZ@reddit
Physical media and packaging was a significant cost. They have been milking customers for a long time. How the fuck do you think it is acceptable to release an unfinished or unplayable game? I'm not even a gamer but this corporate apologism is so fucking gay.
Deldris@reddit
So you haven't noticed the $70 games?

There were $70 games in the 90's. The N64 was brutal. That's about $135 adjusted.
airfryerfuntime@reddit
One of the reasons I didn't get an N64 was because of how expensive the games were. I just stuck with my PS1 because you could always find games on sale, even newer ones. I think Wrestlemania on the N64 was like $75 at launch, and on the PS1, it was $55.

Pirating is like a drug, it feels good during the short term, but has long term consequences for either yourself or the industry.
If everybody was pirating, nobody would invest their time and money to make any new games. Pirating older games might have have much effect on the industry, but its a gateway drug to pirating newer games which will have an effect.
PijaniFemboj@reddit
The issue with this logic is that a lot of pirates never ever buy games. If they can't pirate it, they won't go and buy it, they just won't play it at all.
I pirated every game I ever had as a kid because my parents refused to buy me games. If I was unable to pirate a game, I just didn't play it because I had no way of buying it.
WhyAmIToxic@reddit
While Im sure that does happen, I see it as being similar to shoplifting. Sure, some people do it for survival, but there are many others that can afford the items but steal them anyway.
Im not making a moral judgment, Im just stating reality.
SonTyp_OhneNamen@reddit
Both really. I wanna be able to own stuff instead of renting it. I hate the subscription normalization we’ve steered ourselves into. But if i could pay full price to own a 20 year old game i still wouldn’t want to. Shit‘s not a limited edition antiquity, the fact that it can be copied without any effort is why piracy exists, selling it for more than pocket change is greed.
If i can’t pirate it, chances are i still won’t buy it.

Do you remember how back in the day when you paid for tv you had to pay for “packages” that contained multiple channels, but most people really only wanted to watch like 2-3 of the channels in some packages and the rest were just there to justify raising the price. ITS THE SAME SHIT.

Obamametrics@reddit
Right, so you do just want free shit? why is it so hard to admit?
AuContraire_85@reddit
For $50 for online premium you get both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for a year not to mention the rest of the N64 library and the SNES, NES, and Genesis library they have.
The subscription is a far better deal than than any form of buying the game outright or anything else any other videogame company offers for their back catalogue.
Just admit you want free shit! You people spend way too much time jerking each other off on reddit. Your opinions are so goddamn worthless it's actually impressive that you've created this echochamber where $4/month for an immense back catalogue is somehow a bad deal.
If they released an Ocarina of Time + Majora's Mask pack for $20 tomorrow you people would still be crying that it's too expensive, stop pretending otherwise.
etherealGiles@reddit
The dude only wants majora's mask and ocarina of time. Saying 50$ for both of those + entire libraries of game is useless.

ok so you want Nintendo to release a Switch version that you get for free?
No one is denying that piracy is a way to preserve games. But when you people bring up old Nintendo games it's clear you just want a free version for the Switch.
mag_creatures@reddit
Linford_Fistie@reddit
Ok shill
AuContraire_85@reddit
$4/month to play all your old Nintendo games is pretty affordable and the best deal any game company offers for their back catalogue.
Go ahead, name any other.
ConnorOfAstora@reddit

SharkMilk44@reddit
Subscribing to be able to stream it doesn't bother me nearly as much as not being able to play a game legally without paying ludicrous prices weren't on the second hand market. There are a ton of games where Nintendo isn't losing money to piracy, but they still won't allow it.
Testing_things_out@reddit
Patents only last a 20 something years and takes a lot of effort and cost just to issue the patent.
Why should copyright last even longer?
Jellylegs_19@reddit
Literally, even though it's a digital license I want to purchase it one time and 'own' it in my digital library. When it's a subscription it feels terrible cuz I only want to play two-maybe three games but now I need to subscribe to bullshit.
PotatoAmulet@reddit
I would genuinely like to hear some Nintendo executives explain their takes on copyright and preservation. Do they think that someone playing Ocarina of Time directly translates into someone not buying TOTK?

its also hilariously easy to pirate those. developers have had so much time to make it simpler for people who cant understand github language like myself to crack their consoles, that the service you get is almost as good as paying nintendo. they even have servers and stuff (im talking about wiimfi here but iirc they have similar stuff for 3ds too)
the way they charge for stuff, you'd expect buying nintendo's subscription to be the only way you can play their games but its as simple as following a youtube tutorial
TheOneWhoReadsStuff@reddit
Genuinely, I’ve been gaming since Atari. Theres stuff I used to play as a kid that just doesn’t exist anymore.
That will be the case for everything that exists now. There will be a point where these emulators are the only method to experience these games.
And fuck yeah people want free shit. They weren’t going to buy the games anyway, so it doesn’t really affect the market as much as one would think.
I don’t advocate theft or piracy, but there is a genuinely positive reason for its existence. To anyone new to gaming, you’ll realize it in 20 years.
blu66@reddit

Sinfere@reddit

InquisitorMeow@reddit
You should definitely be able to judge the mainstream games of the eras though, most people are casual and play whatever is popular/mainstream. Imo there's definitely a glut of lazy, appeal to as many people as you can type games.
project571@reddit
People had passion projects, but there also wasn't as much of an expectation that you would make a living. Now gaming has grown so much that it is a full on industry.
Furthermore, the modern economic climate around the world would stifle a significant amount of game dev creativity/time because it isn't feasible for someone to have a job and also try to make a whole game on the side. Being able to more clearly monetize has benefits in ensuring that more devs can actually make games. The problem is that people put money in and expect money out and there are plenty of companies just trying to push the arrow up, up, up.

If you just expand your tastes a little you will still find amazing games. It’s really multiplayer games and older AAA franchises that used to be good that are turning into garbage.

Calico1101@reddit
Not even the same concept of game? Like, deadlock is a moba, and UT is very much not
InquisitorMeow@reddit
While the game rules are structured around moba the gameplay is hardly reminiscent of mobas. Go watch some pros play it the movement is insane.
Calico1101@reddit
Okay sure, but to equate it to UT is not at all accurate. UT had huge focus on gunplay over abilities, and while movement was a factor, it wasn't the main appeal, just a product of its time
InquisitorMeow@reddit
I would say movement is a huge part of what defines arena shooters. CS is arguably all about gunplay/aim but it is slow and has very little vertical movement.
Calico1101@reddit
Yes, and CS is yet another game genre, which again, doesn't really equate to UT, as it's a tactical shooter, like deadlock, which is a moba. These are all false equivalents that will never feel like the other because they are not the same genre. To tell someone to play deadlock since they can't play UT is just weird? Because deadlock doesn't feel anything like UT (I enjoy deadlock though, don't get me wrong)
ConanTheLeader@reddit
Call of Duty basically killed off those kind of bunny hopping shooters and took a more realistic approach which might be funny to hear but at the time bullet penetration through walls and not bunny hopping around was realistic in comparison.
joonas_davids@reddit
Counter-Strike, not CoD. In early 2000s CoD was a very minor player compared to CS, focused on single player WW2 story telling. CoD4 was the first real competitor to CS from the franchise
ConanTheLeader@reddit
Counter Strike was a PC game. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare came out on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 which gave it a far greater reach. Counter Strike also is more of a hardcore game which is limiting, you’d typically get one life and be facing players with cyborg like reflexes.
joonas_davids@reddit
Well first of all, the context was Unreal Tournament and Quake becoming unpopular, which are PC games with some mildly popular console releases. Secondly, as I mentioned, CoD4 would have been a fitting example had it released much earlier. But by the time it released in 2007 CS was by far the most popular FPS, while Quake and UT were far past their prime.

I'm Lucky. I have a pirated version in my ps2. Yes, all the cutscenes have a chance to crash the game. Yes I have to skip them as fast as I can.
I guess I'm lucky the game works to some degree. It's my favorite game of all time, and I can play it whenever I want.
absolute4080120@reddit
It's literally sold in the Castlevania collectors edition on switch and PS4 right now?

no, it is not

Literally the only Castlevania I was able to try because of demo discs for the PS2 like 15 years ago. I never got it because young at the time (no moniz) but I have now a rom that I may play some day. All I know is it was ok and there was some sort of pet
kallen8277@reddit
For real ive actually recently looked up how to play it, and it was only on my og Xbox which the power supply failed so I can't. It was my first castlevania game and I always wanted to go back and replay it after playing the others but nooooo

Wanted to play Ninja Gaiden and my Xbox is all kinds of fucked up. Hard DIsk dead, disc drive won't open etc.

ps2 for me. I got to point a few hours in, and the game froze. I rebooted the game, it froze again in the same spot. I bought a second disc, it froze in the same spot as well. My ps2 is in storage now.

it's not anymore shitty than releasing a garbage product and expecting people to pay full price

lildoggihome@reddit

Collypso@reddit
The consequences of not buying something you don't need but still stealing it. Try to keep up here, slugger.
drinking_child_blood@reddit
Actually I steal both things I need and don't need
lildoggihome@reddit
I never said I was stealing anything. "purchasing" a game online grants you a license that can be revoked at any time. if I don't even own it why should I pay for it
Collypso@reddit
Wow that's crazy, you couldn't even handle the consequences of getting called out online by someone you'll never meet. Speaks a lot about your defiant nature.
Because when the owner of something doesn't want you to have something without paying for it, you don't get to say "but I wanna" and get it. You wouldn't use this preteen logic for anything else.
lildoggihome@reddit

Aniquin@reddit
Why do you care?
Collypso@reddit
Because yall just lie to make yourself feel better about stealing. Why lie? Just admit it.
HawasYT@reddit
If purchasing isn't owning then pirating isn't stealing
I now unironically believe this after being one of those whose The Crew privileges were yoinked(although I got lucky, I got The Crew for free during their 30th anniversary giveaway but still so at least I didn't lose money)
Only exception is GOG since those Polish wizards let you download installers no questions asked you can actually own a copy of a game for as long as you have storage space to spare
Collypso@reddit
Then you don't get to play the game... This should be a very simple concept for you to understand.
HawasYT@reddit
No, you don't get it, people paid for The Crew and yet they don't get to play. If this is fair game than so is the logical inverse, I don't pay for a game and yet get to play.
Collypso@reddit
You know what you can do to discourage companies from doing that? Stop buying their games, stop advertising for them.
But you don't care. You don't care about game preservation. You don't care about The Crew. You just want to play games for free and you want to feel good about it.
HawasYT@reddit
Already doing that. Well, tbh I did buy The Crew 2 when it went for a buck because at this price it felt like if I bought it I'd be scamming Ubi - and after playing it I'm not sure whether it was actually worth that much. And the map being basically the same as The Crew they took from me feels like a scam so I guess me and Ubi are even
But you are right, I'm inclined not to buy any more games from them, I don't even plan to pirate any of them even though I do believe it would be morally justifiable.
I do actually. It got yoinked from me. And I loved playing Skate 3 whenever I was at a friend's house, who owned it - it's really good game and I do want it preserved.
Aniquin@reddit
I think you just want to argue for the sake of arguing. I didn't take a side but you automatically assigned me to one. Go play a video game.
Collypso@reddit
Arguing's pretty fun, sport
not_just_an_AI@reddit
how did you get that from me saying I want to be able to legally play a 19 year old game.
Collypso@reddit
I didn't. However, every single time piracy is brought up, this excuse is wheeled out, and the far more problematic piracy is just ignored. So I'm asking you directly if you think that pirating the newest games is ok.
not_just_an_AI@reddit
I didn't even I say I think pirating is ok, I don't. I literally just said I would like to be able to play an old game. one which I own 2 copies of, but neither work. You just assumed I thought it was morally acceptable to pirate. Other people in this comment section have said that they think it is acceptable to pirate, I have not said that it is not something I believe.

Don't give a shit again pirating games. Pirating actual software, like adobe products is much more fun
slashth456@reddit
It's always morally correct to pirate Adobe products
ShortTheseNuts@reddit
The complete Adobe suite, literally all of it, is €20 a month if you say you're a student. How is that not worth it to get immediate updates and full support without the hassle of piracy.
Storyshifting@reddit
I deleted my pirated copy of ultrakill during sales since I could afford it. Why? Perhaps because if you give people a better service than the pirates, then most people are going to be willing to fork that cash.
Netflix and Steam were creative with this concept in mind
kincard@reddit
The only way i was able to play Spec Ops: The line a few weeks ago was through piracy. The game is only 12 years old, but you can't get it anymore. With the decline of physical medium (even games that have it need downloads for important updates), the only way to actually own a videogame and preserve it is having a cracked version of it in a hard drive.
Movies can easily be preserved by just recording your monitor while you stream it, and blu-rays are very much a thing you can buy no problem. But it's much easier for games to become lost media, so yeah, piracy is the way right now.
Collypso@reddit
So it's ok to pirate the newest games?
kincard@reddit
If you wouldn't be able to buy it anyway i personally think it's ok. I think the same for books, movies and everything in between, culture and art should be available to people even if they can't pay for it. But if it ends up being something you like you should probably pay for it eventually, especially if it's something from smaller creators.
Collypso@reddit
What if you never do?
ErikSD@reddit
Most people who can afford to buy will opt to buy instead of pirating, simply because buying is safer, more convenient, and you get online-features like multiplayer or workshops. It's those you cannot afford to buy in the first place that pirates (and thus will barely make a dent on a company's bottom line).
Collypso@reddit
So? Why should they get to play the game? Does this logic work with anything else?
kincard@reddit
Collypso@reddit
Digital goods aren't material, so why would you pretend the physical version of stealing applies? Middle schoolers could understand this distinction.
"I think theft is fine if I do it this way"
Imagine trying to convince a judge with this child logic
kincard@reddit
Collypso@reddit
So much less harmful that companies spend millions trying to stop it. They're just doing it out of spite though right?
kincard@reddit
Are you using chat gpt to rebute this? I said is that it is less harmful to support other arguments in my previous comment, where i went more in depth as to why companies do this, i ain't explaining again, go back and read that if you want.
ErikSD@reddit
Because it's hurting no one (except for your feeling apparently)
Collypso@reddit
Is literally is, why would it be illegal otherwise?
ErikSD@reddit
Feel free to read all the anecdotes from actual gamedev about this issue.
Collypso@reddit
Do game devs of one company speak for the game devs of another company?
Notice how you abandon a point you brought up the moment it gets pushback? You don't give a fuck about a single one of these points, you just want to steal games and get away with it.
ErikSD@reddit
My point has always been that pirating does not affect sale thus hurting no one, I'm not sure how you misconstrued my arguments into whatever you're sperging about. I used to pirate, I don't anymore because I can actually afford to just buy them now.
Collypso@reddit
Then why is it illegal
Why do companies spend millions trying to prevent it
ErikSD@reddit
Because the decision making people at the top are out of touch with the rest of the gaming community and just pass whatever policies and decisions that sound good to them. Sony spent $400 millions to develop a $40 hero-based shooter that no one asked for and no one wanted. Mistakes happen, and just because companies are big do not mean they will always make the most efficient decisions.
Collypso@reddit
The decision making people are the ones who care about the money. In your understanding, that means they'll spend millions to prevent something that doesn't affect their income?
ErikSD@reddit
I've literally just said because they are not infallible, they make mistakes all the times that hurt their bottom lines (like Concord), but I'm sure you're well aware of my points already and is just being ignorant for the sake or arguing.
Collypso@reddit
Why assume that business owners are the ones making mistakes instead of you just not knowing what you're talking about?
kincard@reddit
Idk man, it's not the end of the world or anything, but the people who made the game deserve to have their work payed for. If you played their game and enjoyed it enough, or played for a long time, when you have the money you should pay for it, if you don't then i guess you can't blame anyone when your favorite developers stop making games. If you like videogames you should at least sometimes pay for them, if you like movies too, same with books, but if you would need to forefit your monthly groceries to do that i wouldn't judge you for not doing it.
Potato1020@reddit
Since when is wanting free shit an issue?
MrYougan@reddit
I want to preserve old games that companies dont care about apart for IP preservation.
I also want free shit.
But most of all, I want to be able to test a game before forking 60 to 90 $ since modern developpers seem so adverse to fucking demos.
DlCKMCSLICK@reddit
Aside from wanting free shit, I shouldn't have to pay a monthly subscription just to play a 20 year old game. They should just sell the damn game.
Rhettledge@reddit
If you pirate for preservation's sake, then IDK what harm that's doing to the company itself. No game company is making money from a physical copy bought from some rando in a BK parking lot.
Darth_Syphilisll@reddit
Back in the days when most people's internet couldn't support download or streaming, pirated movies were a big commodity in countries where distribution wasn't that great.
tokcliff@reddit

Spanker_of_Monkeys@reddit
I hate not being able to own the shit I buy. I pirate more movies and shows than I did 10 yrs ago because so many fucking studios won't release blurays anymore, and I'm not paying $20 for the rights to watch a movie on a platform that won't exist in 10 yrs
Collypso@reddit
Steal now because you wouldn't be able to steal later. Brilliant.
HawasYT@reddit
You say that but a lot of HBO Max original shows would be lost media if not for pirates
Collypso@reddit
That's great, it's still stealing right?
HawasYT@reddit
The same way redistributing Steamboat Willie is imho
Collypso@reddit
So those shows gave up their licenses then?
HawasYT@reddit
All I'm saying is if the law wasn't rigged by corpos then it would be automatically void the same way originally copyright was void after 25 years after the original work was released
Collypso@reddit
Ok so they didn't give up their licenses, but you feel like you should be able to do what the owners don't want you to do?
HawasYT@reddit
Public domain exists for a reason and I believe same way Steamboat Willie entered it (not by Disney "giving up their license"), works of art no longer being made available by their rights' owners should enter it as well.
Netflix released some culturally significant shows like Bojack Horseman, Squid Game, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, etc. and I don't believe there should be a possiblity of losing those works due to Netflix going bust and them ending up in copyright limbo
Collypso@reddit
So you're saying that you should be able to break the law, you should be able to decide what gets done with someone's property, because.... you want to?
megastud69420@reddit

lemonboomgamer@reddit

If your car breaks down but there aren't OEM parts are you gonna scrap the whole thing because aftermarket parts are intellectual theft?
Collypso@reddit
Doesn't matter; they don't let you play the game for free. What makes you feel like you deserve to play the game regardless?
HawasYT@reddit
It does matter, your car's manufacturer doesn't let drive without that broken part. Do you believe you don't deserve to repair your car and continue driving it?
I believe in archiving stuff for future generations and for games that entails being able to play them.
Collypso@reddit
And yet you justify pirating all games with this bullshit excuse. Who do you think you're fooling here?
HawasYT@reddit
Not all games, only those which can't be owned and which aren't indie.
Who do you think you are fooling? Your whole argument against any moral justification of piracy relies solely on the fact it's not legal despite the fact legality and morality are only tangentially related and something being legal doesn't make it automatically moral and vice versa and all permutations.
Collypso@reddit
Law literally exists to enforce a society's morality. It's insane how far you'll go to try to justify theft.
HawasYT@reddit
Yes but it doesn't automatically make flying a kite in a public place, among others immoral. Thinking "legal = moral and illegal = immoral, end of story" is a very naïve approach.

There's only two ways to get GTA San Andreas in it's original release format with the complete soundtrack, and that's by pirating, or just hoping to get lucky coming across a physical copy somewhere. In this case, pirating is a perfectly viable option
ShortTheseNuts@reddit
What do you mean is missing from the steam version?
obsoleteconsole@reddit
Rockstar took down the previous version and replaced it with the mobile port version done by GSG. This is because some songs on the soundtrack had their license expire and so they couldn't be used any more. This version is missing stability and bug fixes from previous updates to the original version available on steam, 1080p resolution, and 17 songs removed because of the aforementioned license expiry's.

I just don't wanna pay for culture, hearing old people suck dick for games that essentially no longer exist gives me fimo.

Sorry that I can't afford a rare $1000 USD 30 year old nintendo game that looks like shit on a modern tv anon

Its impossible to play lord of the rings conquest, battle of middle earth if you dont hsve a physical copie. Thers no reason for a publisher to argue against piracy if rhey dont want to sell the game at any cost.

Cuz most can't afford them.

Listen, companies already made billions from the game I usually download for free, and if they don’t make the available in a reasonable way, the option is out there… Modding communities did amazing things with old games, and we support those companies buying new stuff.
Computer2014@reddit
If they stop selling the game then piracy literally doesn’t even affect their profits anymore because there is none.
The only reason game companies don’t release it for free is to keep it in their back pockets for a future trash remaster that only exists to pad their quarterly reports.

The older i get the more i think digital preservation is actually essential. Im sure most people crying just want free shit, but that doesnt diminish the value of preserving these things. So many awesome and interesting things from the digital age have already been lost
GildedBlackRam@reddit
Both reasons are about equal value to me, but I'm not bitching. I really don't know what piracy sites they mean, all my stuff still seems available.
