Two bands with a best selling album each rerecord one another's album

Same songs in the same order, same album name, different arrangements and instruments.

That could be done.
The top two bands for album sales (still alive and still working) are AC/DC (Back in Black) and Metallica (Metallica).

Something like that might work best because there's cross over in the fan base. Taylor Swift doing a Metallica album would be fascinating but probably wouldn't appeal to Metallica fans.

You said bands. It gets funnier if you include solo artists.
That would be AC/DC and Shania Twain.

Shania Twain and AC/DC would be awesome. It's "so crazy it might work".

Can you imagine Brian Johnson singing That Don't Impress Me Much, or Shania singing Givin' the Dog a Bone?

I'd love to hear that

Great idea! No cherry picking, its the entire album or nothing!

I'm pretty certain this was already done a long time ago now.
Can't remember which bands, but I do seem to recall it.

I Googled it first and couldn't find anything. Were the bands the same genre?

The Bee Gees re-recorded Stgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles…
It was weird.

That was ambitious of them. I honestly can't say I'm interested in listening to it.

Can't remember now, but, if my memory isn't playing tricks on me .. and it did happen ... then they were pretty disparate - akin to say The Beastie Boys vs Run DMC (but not those two).
