If you had no family, how would you prepare for later life?

As someone who only has a sister, and no other family, I know I’m in a for a lonely time as I grow older.
I don’t want marriage or kids, so the thought of how I’m live out my later years is on my mind.
A home is looking like the most likely option, but I’m just wondering, how would you prepare for later life if you had no one?
