Ferrari's first full-electric car will likely be an SUV, and it could look like this

If it funds the continued production of gas/hybrid sports cars and helps them meet emissions targets, then I’m all for it.

Much like with the Taycan, Macan EV, and 718 EV, the R&D for this electric SUV has ultimately been funded by ICEV profits. 5 years from now that may not be the case, but EVs are expensive to make at first and it takes years for their development costs to be repaid in profit.

Why would the 911 turbo s fund the taycan. The ICE cayenne and macan have been the bread and butter
strongmanass@reddit
The 911 Turbo S is the single most profitable vehicle in the world. But my general point was that EVs are expensive to manufacture especially as oegacy makers are dtill figuring it out. Until it becomes much cheaper and the EVs all start making profits, ICE funds EV development and not the other way around.

given that market preferences for SUVs, there is a good chance would be Ferrari customers are asked to first buy the V12 before being possibly considered for the SUV
Geofferz@reddit
Yeah, it's saved porsche and lambo and allowed them to continue building enthusiast cars so fair play.

This is the hope. I will gladly sacrifice all non-V12 ICE Ferraris for electric cars if that means we keep getting at least one new model with a V12 engine alongside the electric fleet.

Hope Ferrari take inspiration from Hyundai with the 5N and not what Porsche has done with the Macan EV.
Can you make an electric car as fun and engaging as an ICE sports car? No. But you can still have some fun with them and I would rather then try and make it interesting than just give up entirely.

That's if you ask a petrolhead. The question is, should Ferrari try to appeal to petrolheads who don't want EVs, or they should they market their EV to EV enthusiasts who've never considered a Ferrari before? (Realistically in the end they'll just make this the thing their legacy buyers have to get in order to get something with an engine.) But the question applies to sports car manufacturers in general. Which is the better approach - convert petrolheads to EV enthusiasts or EV enthusiasts to sports car lovers?

So SUV only means more ground clearance at this point
RiftHunter4@reddit
That's all it's been for 10 years now. My Highlander drives like a Camry.

There’s a new Tacoma in my area and its hilarious how low the ground clearance is, thanks to the deflector thats on the higher end models.
I think my car has more ground clearance.

Some models of pickup have a taller air dam on the 4WD model so that its approach angle is effectively the same as a 2WD.
uchigaytana@reddit
I mean, compared to the average Ferrari, these have a lot more cabin space.

The only thing that could ever have made me want a Ferrari was an electric supercar, not than yawnfest of a mom mobile. But I'm sure it'll sell in larger numbers than an electric supercar, so there's a business case for it. I guess I'll keep waiting for something to spark something in me.

Ferrari depreciation speed run
ConstructionRare4123@reddit
Just wait for about 64 days and the electric car mandate will go by the wayside
Chi-Guy86@reddit
Right, because Ferrari only sells cars in the United States. /s
ConstructionRare4123@reddit
That’s not what I’m saying but the U.S. is the biggest car market in the world. So usually what ever happens there has an affect globally
MilkyWaySamurai@reddit
Hopefully it will force the EU to do the same. It’s completely unrealistic to begin with.
ConstructionRare4123@reddit
I’m not against electric cars but to go all electric I’m against

China is currently the largest car market in the world by both production and sales
