If youre on here... To the driver who was forced into the 3rd lane to avoid a collision, south of Chowchilla on the 99 in California and was pulled over for it. Here's proof, send a tr205 and fight it!

I had one cite me for being in the middle lane, even though I was only there because the right lane was going to end soon, and there was also another truck pulled over on the shoulder and I gave them a lane for safety. I fought it by mail by printing up a satellite photo of the area, and then went step by step on what happened. They dismissed my case.

I've never been out to California, but I've heard their laws pertaining to commercial vehicles are ridiculous and the highway patrol are giant dicks about it. It's too bad we can't get everyone organized enough to boycott going out there for a couple of months. I bet they'd start singing a different tune if that happened.
w3stvirginia@reddit
They’re the ones that grow like 60% of the country’s produce. They’d be fine and we’d be up the creek.
SexMachine666@reddit
They wouldn't be "fine" while their produce is rotting on their docks and becomes unsellable.
TruckerBiscuit@reddit
Who's going to last longer: starving people or businesses?
SexMachine666@reddit
If you think people would really starve if we cut California off, then you're delusional. California isn't the only source of food in this country.
TruckerBiscuit@reddit
It's the largest source of food in the country. If we cut it off food prices will skyrocket. They may be able to grow a fine head of cabbage in Arkansas but who's going to be able to afford it?
Just stop with the 'cut off California' business already will you? It's the stupidest idea imaginable.
privatelyjeff@reddit
Yep. People don’t realize just how much agriculture happens in California. We produce the most milk, and vegetables. In fact, if you eat anything with processed tomatoes in the US, it definitely has tomatoes that were grown here in it.
Embarrassed-Spread87@reddit
Do you think you’re the only truck?? I drive locally in ca hauling oranges from field to packing house. I know the 55 mph speed limit really sucks but if you just obey the law Smokey will leave you be 99% of the time. It’s pretty simple.
SexMachine666@reddit
If all truckers boycotted California and didn't take any freight out, then you can run local all you want...but the out of state freight is rotting on the fucking dock. So again I say, THEY would be fucked if all out of state truckers boycotted California for even a couple weeks. You local boys aren't going to deliver all that produce to the rest of the country lol
BoostedLexus@reddit (OP)
As of last year there were 1.8 million registered trucking companies, and according to the FMCSA there are 308,953 carriers, 874,964 drivers, and 692,558 trucks in California... We'd be fine
SexMachine666@reddit
We'll see how many are left when CDLs start getting pulled for the recent Clearinghouse changes and when deportations start.
BoostedLexus@reddit (OP)
K... Lmao...
w3stvirginia@reddit
Who cares about selling it at that point? They’re the ones with the food. When the rest of the country gets hungary—or broke—enough they’ll start going back. In the meantime, they’re the 5 largest economy on earth. They’ll be fine for a while.
You’re one of those people that think trucking is some noble career that is the keystone of the economy. We’re the superhero that keeps everything running. Got news for you. It’s just another tooth on the cog that keeps everything going. If any of those teeth break, we’re out of luck. If warehouse workers had a stoppage, we’d all be in the same boat. No one ever pulls the “they’re the backbone” card on them because they apparently don’t need their egos stroked like we do…
SexMachine666@reddit
And you're one of the ones who think California is more important than it really is...
w3stvirginia@reddit
No. I just happen to read the package to see where my produce comes from and connect the dots. I understand where your point of view comes from though. It’s likely your inflated importance of your contribution to the economy and that you probably don’t buy any produce —or read…
scottiethegoonie@reddit
It's all about time and place. Lane laws are enforced heavily in certain areas and ignored in others.
The 5 through the Grapevine is obvious, but the 99 can be a real trap if you don't know. It's a 3 lane that expands to 4 lanes through cities, and highway patrol sits under the freeway passed waiting to catch easy prey.
Using the third lanes in Los Angeles during heavy traffic isn't the same as doing that on open stretches through central CA.
If you ever come through CA, always take the 5 and not the 99 if you have a choice.
buckytuba1@reddit
Yeah for some reason California doesn't like truckers cause they pollute their sanctimonious state
VersionFew9857@reddit
I don’t know what the fuss is about because the truck that got over in the 3rd lane seemed to do it purposely so that the truck in the right lane can get over to middle lane due to what was on the shoulder. It was a courtesy move on the part of the truck in 3rd lane,he wasn’t “forced” there by any means.
306d316b72306e@reddit
Because truck drivers are blue collar scum in their eyes
BoostedLexus@reddit (OP)
That's what it seems like, especially due to my dirty ass windshield, but the driver in the right lane was actually merging into the 2nd lane and crossed the lane divider which forced the 2nd lane driver into the 3rd
_daddyl0nglegs_@reddit
This very exact thing happened one on the 5 in the grapevine back in 2018.
The difference for me was that CHP was right behind me and saw all of it.
He didn't care. The "3rd lane" (as we call it) is forbidden. I had to take it to court and spend money on a lawyer getting it dropped. Even though I had to jump over to avoid a collision, it didn't matter. They just want your money.
errie_tholluxe@reddit
last time I was asked why I was in the lane I asked where the signage was. There is none on just about all the four lane roads. Its just known.
_daddyl0nglegs_@reddit
Actually, in California, there are signs everywhere on all freeways. I've lived here my whole life.
They typically say "Trucks - 3-axles or more - Right two lanes ONLY"
I believe that's word-for-word lol. They're posted all over.
errie_tholluxe@reddit
Not through LA or San Diego or even going up 15 towards Vegas. Think I have seen 2. 10 east, never seen one.
Maybe up on 99 or over on 5, but southern CA I dont see them at all.
_daddyl0nglegs_@reddit
Yes there are. I used to have a double flip to San Diego every night from Riverside, and I ran to Vegas a lot. I promise you, they're all over the state. They're easy to miss since they are so frequent. You become blind to them.
errie_tholluxe@reddit
Drive a truck. Look at signage all day, but wont argue. The cop who came up to the accident scene looked back and forth on 15 though and let it go.
GrandDukeOfBoobs@reddit
I’m not a cop but I was military. So I usually understand what cops have to deal with. A bunch of these patrol guys don’t really have a lot of autonomy. They get told what to write the tickets for and even if there’s a good excuse the directive is to just hand the ticket out and let them fight it in court.
Unfortunately, it’s due to all the incidents that happen when people start trying to explain their position to an officer and start getting aggressive. The police would get aggressive right back and all of a sudden the officer is on paid leave waiting to see if he’ll get out of murder charges. So the higher ups are now just ordering their guys to cite and leave.
socialrage@reddit
They're supposed to be piece officers concerned about safety.
Put up or shut up.
They're not about safety.
Oh and btw, they don't actually have to know the law they enforce.
Hypocrites, nothing but a bunch of hypocrites.
errie_tholluxe@reddit
They have a choice. They choose to be assholes. That aint protecting anyone just serving the counties for money. Check how much of some of these towns budgets DEPEND on tickets and you quickly find out that its all bs to get dough.
ACAB.
Photon6626@reddit
Even if you win they still win
CobraWasTaken@reddit
CHP is so fuckin sensitive about the 3rd lane. Once I was sitting in LA traffic barely moving in the 3rd lane, but there was a 4th lane to my left AND an HOV lane to the left of that, this CHP officer gets on his intercom and tells me to move over. I'm glad he didn't pull me over/write me a ticket, but what the fuck is the point of that?? I'm not impeding traffic in any way and I wasn't even in the far left. I just don't get it.
stonestevecoldaustin@reddit
California hates truckers
Luigi_Dagger@reddit
Same thing happened in GA to my old coworker. Its total bullshit
UhOhAllWillyNilly@reddit
The CHP I notorious about ticketing lane violations on the Grapevine.
TheJuggernaut043@reddit
Everytime I go up it there are at least 3-4 empty trucks using it.
Holiday_Ad126@reddit
It sucks too cause sometimes from experience and seen , is if you’re heading south , a lot of truck are going to slow in both right lanes , on the incline at the beginning
UhOhAllWillyNilly@reddit
Especially the ones coming out of the scale at the bottom who are unable to “get a run at it” and at least start out with a little momentum in their favor.
BoostedLexus@reddit (OP)
Damn that happened to me in grapevine aswell, but I got lucky with the judge I guess. I filed my tr205 in Lamont superior court, provided evidence that a Flatbed cut me off and I went over to the 3rd lane to avoid a collision and my citation was dropped.
But yes, CHP gets a hard on for truckers/trailers in the 3rd lane if the freeway isn't splitting!
LuckyLystrosaurus@reddit
Instructions clear, when in California bulldoze anyone in the breakdown lane
This is much better than being in the left lane for 20 seconds
Dead_Namer@reddit
TBH I don't mind what he did, he took 10 seconds to pass and got into the other lane ASAP, he was not riding it being a dick to everyone behind.
treesmith1@reddit
California is ridiculous. We are all going to end up kicking shit out at the border and let them deal with their own nonsense.
CuthbertJTwillie@reddit
Never pull next to truck number one. If truck number two is blocking your path to getting out from beside truck number one
