Spent $1000 for 10 year of survival

You are invited to a survival gameshow. It will happen in the core of Amazon wilderness. You have to survive 10 years and you will get a billion dollars. You will have zero contacts with the outside world during this challenge. You can die, you have to sign a waiver. You cannot bring anything you own inside. At the start of the competition you will be awarded $1000 amazon credits which can be used to purchase anything you want to bring inside. These will be the only items you will be allowed to bring to the survival show. What purchase would you make with 1000$? What would your strategy to survive in the initial days?

Kindle/tablet - preloaded with 5000 books, solar panel to charge it. I'm going to be bored as hell for 10 years, by myself. Insanity is the biggest danger.
Shelter - bug netting, tarps and ropes. I need to survive 2 weeks before I can use anything available in the forest.
Water - Fire starter and a canteen. Tarp to collect rain. Large plastic jug for extra storage.
Food - 5-10 large cans of food. Cans become pots and storage containers.
2 saws for wood (one will wear out), 1 axe - firewood is a PITA. Since I'm scared of Jaguars, lots of Fire at night. Hope like hell they don't eat me. They can probably get me before I even know they're there. I'm going to build a fortress, but it takes time to build.
Bow/arrows - both hunting and for entertainment. I'm going to be Robin Hood when I'm done.
Fishing net, rod, line hooks.
Lots of plastic rope for my fortress. Building it will help keep me busy.
Likely, I'm going to quit after a year from loneliness.

Kindle can be bought. But you will only get the products directly to amazon.
lerpo@reddit
Fine. I'll throw a starlink in there with a jackery and solar. Boom.
PeeboJones@reddit
How are you paying the monthly fee for Starlink?
lerpo@reddit
What, I have no other money in my bank account that's still open? £75 a month in the UK
Antique_Adeptness_66@reddit
Your only chance of survival is contact with the inside world.
DavesNotHereMan69420@reddit
About $275,000 a day. Do we have to pay taxes on that capital gain? Lol. That brings us down to roughly $150,000 a day.
Quick Google search shows plenty of tribes not only have survived there but still do to this day, only difference is the word tribe.. meaning a group of people, to do that alone.. mmm, idk.
FranksFarmstead@reddit
Charge that to the Canadian wilderness and I’m 100% in.
booksandrats@reddit
I'd rather deal with the cold too!
FranksFarmstead@reddit
It’s not just that - far easier to build shelter, make fires, way way more fresh water and accessible food / nothing wants to kill you. Unlike the Amazon where a row of army ant way eat you alive at night.
Hoyle33@reddit
Biggest thing would be a sealed metal shelter. I've seen those videos of the insects chewing away at tents and wood shelters, no thank you
smsff2@reddit
I searched for it and found this video:

HOB_I_ROKZ@reddit
Holy shit
ad4d@reddit (OP)
You did watch the video with leaf cutter ants, didn't you?
Nodgod81@reddit
Bullet ants as well
Hoyle33@reddit
Absolutely
kkinnison@reddit
No game show will last 10 years and have $1 billion reward
jeff Bezos of the Amazon makes more money during the time when he pisses on workers who store urine in bottles and calls it "Trickle down economics" then that worker could make in their lifetime of slave labor to Bezos
Hefty-Ad-7884@reddit
Ten years of complete isolation, assuming I maintain a modicum of quality of life, is going to drive me nuts. I’d need at least a billion dollars worth of therapy after
ad4d@reddit (OP)
Don't worry too much. You will have ptsd too. So it is a 2 in 1 deal with the therapist.
Globalboy70@reddit
After 10 years alone you will be your own therapist...right Wilson.
Brianf1977@reddit
Sorry but you can't get everything you need from Amazon to last 10 years for 1k. Especially since you can't buy guns or ammo, people who think they can survive with some arrows and a knife are fooling themselves.
cutslikeakris@reddit
Antibiotics, anti fungal treatments and first aid will be that $1000 alone. People aren’t thinking of illness and parasite load in the Amazon and it’s hilarious, knowing what my kids grandpa had to do regularly in Brazil as a kid.
ObiwanCannoli42000@reddit
Why do you need any of those when a book can tell you several plants that have those properties.
cutslikeakris@reddit
Have you ever extracted and used natural medicine? I have. It’s not always easy, plants wanted aren’t always in season/easy to find, and aren’t as effective as the modern kinds. A toothache for a year is hell with Modern drugs!
ObiwanCannoli42000@reddit
How so? I’m pretty sure the tribes aren’t running around with AKs🤣
Brianf1977@reddit
The tribes are the least of my worries, the jungle itself and the animals are much more dangerous
ObiwanCannoli42000@reddit
Very true but my point is they don’t have guns
Brianf1977@reddit
Ahhhh ok I understand now, strength in numbers?
ObiwanCannoli42000@reddit
Certainly helps, but a single individual could do it. It would just be extremely difficult and the odds are very low, but definitely feasible.
funkmon@reddit
In the Amazon?! I have been there. Absolutely fucking not.
10 years of that isn't worth a billion.
ObiwanCannoli42000@reddit
Bro i could not imagine trying to survive the Amazon wilderness but probably a bow and probably a dozen arrows to get started. 2 extra strings for my bow, a bar of Marius Fabre Olive Oil Marseille Soap Block to keep very basic hygiene and to clean wounds and then I can put some tree sap on that bitch. A very well made machete, a survival knife, a axe, duct tape cause why not, a cast iron pot, flint and steal,. Two jeans, 2 boots, 3 socks, 2 long sleeve shirts, a huge ass tarp I can split up, 4 plastic water jugs, a canteen, (maybe a tablet with a solar panel) if I have money after.
snuffy_bodacious@reddit
I highly, highly, highly doubt I'm surviving 10 years alone. I'm confident my mental sanity, by itself, won't hold up.
Astroloan@reddit
Satellite phone with prepaid credits.
Once I'm dropped off in the amazon wilderness, I use the satellite phone to go to the amazon website and submit a request to return my satellite phone.
Amazon sends a return package to the Amazon. I put my phone in the box and return it to Amazon. I ride in the back of the helicopters and trucks.
I have not left Amazon.
I get a job in the Amazon warehouse- a concrete jungle. An Amazon wilderness. I have not contact with the outside world: only Amazon.
I work in Amazon for 10 years. I get a billion dollars.
I have 0.45% of JEff Bezos networth.

I’ll allow it, but watch yourself, McCoy!
ChumboChili@reddit
This is genuinely hilarious.
boobookitty2@reddit
Unfortunately, as a male and with my "girth and length" it makes surviving in the Amazon for 10 years a non-starter. If I were to engage in close combat with a Brazilian wandering spider and get bitten, the ensuing chaos might force NATO or UNICEF to intervene....think rainforest evacuation and international summits. It's a logistical nightmare I dare not unleash on humanity. I’ll respectfully decline and stick to environments where my proportions are less... disruptive.
Randomized007@reddit
Why ten? I probably wouldn't give up ten years for a billion dollars regardless the route to get it
Mikki102@reddit
Idk, if the circumstances were different and it was, say, 10 years chopped off the end of my life.....id probably take it tbh. But 10 years in my prime stuck in the jungle alone? No thanks.
Protect_your_2a@reddit
Amazon rainforest? Machete, 3 Ferro rods, the biggest bug net I can find, a good slingshot and ammo, snare wire, a couple dozen conibear traps
zeek609@reddit
gets eaten by Jaguar whilst hanging bug net
Protect_your_2a@reddit
lol you probably aren’t wrong. I’ve had my fair share of run-ins with wild hog packs during survival campouts, first thing I ever do is cut down a tall pole probably about ten feet long and then shape and fire harden a spear
zeek609@reddit
Yeah good luck with that, man.
I have a Brazilian friend who's uncle got killed by a Jaguar. Nobody even knew the thing was coming.
A hog is gonna square up to you, a Jaguar is gonna come along while you're asleep and rip you to pieces in the middle of the jungle.
Protect_your_2a@reddit
Eh, a Jaguars territory can range up to 200 miles. If I stay within a 10 mile operating radius and keep the fire going at night that gives me a 5% chance of running into one hypothetically. Plus, I can set up a series of punji traps baited with kill and take care of the cat in my area which doubles my circumference to the next one. Realistically speaking I’m more worried about dehydration, infection and fungi killing me than I am a large predator

Two hours in…
Sleeper-of-Rlyeh@reddit
If there is not a book on Amazon on how to do photosynthesis yourself, I´ll pass
owa1313@reddit
F that gameshow; how am I supposed to believe they will be around in 10 years to pay me?
WxxTX@reddit
After 12 years the aliens find you on a nuked planet, Your the last person alive.
nmacaroni@reddit
A helicopter to get the fuck at of that gameshow.
Running water, electricity, refrigeration, are all wonderful things. And the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.
smsff2@reddit
I need rice to survive the first several weeks, while I settle down and set up permanent camp.
https://www.amazon.ca/Members-Mark-Grain-White-pounds/dp/B07C1D6KHH/
I need a pot to boil rice.
https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-Pre-Seasoned-Cast-Dutch-Handles/dp/B074DFMR8K/
ad4d@reddit (OP)
How about some knife?
smsff2@reddit
You are right. I need a lot of other things. Other commenters gave good suggestions, such as ferro rods.
https://www.amazon.ca/Starter-Magnesium-Ferrocerium-Premium-Lighter/dp/B09X1MPJV7/
You can compile a comprehensive list, based on our ideas. My list would be incomplete.
I know nothing about filtering. Never used it. I boil my water.
I know nothing about medicine. My choice of medicine might be unorthodox. I use activated charcoal for gastrointestinal infections and very broad spectrum or somewhat similar symptoms. I guess I would need to switch to natural charcoal in the Amazon. I use iodine for any wounds and radiation emergencies. There are medical and EMT professionals on this sub. Their suggestions will be much more elaborate.
I know nothing about trapping. Fishing is easier.
uncontrolledwiz@reddit
Tent, tarp, couple years food, cross bow and bolts, ax, flint and striker.
Psychd-upnorth@reddit
Dieta it is! I’m all for learning from the plants and the great mother Ayahuasca! I will come out richer than a billion dollars.
gilbert2gilbert@reddit
ngl, I'm gonna die
zeek609@reddit
Most people would, this gameshow is a scam
Jobeaka@reddit
$1000 bucks to get rid of a person, and they go voluntarily? You’re an evil genius.
Ineedmoneyyyyyyyy@reddit
Wouldn’t do it.
Fit_Acanthisitta_475@reddit
Amazon doesn’t sell gun or ammo’s. If they sent you to cold place, cold gear is expensive. most people will be dead within a year.
lizerdk@reddit
Cold place passively tries to kill you
Warm place actively tries to kill you. I don’t mean snakes and jaguars, I mean bacteria and fungus.
Someone that’s not from the rainforest gets plopped down, they’ve got terminal staphylococcus or some other crazy shit inside a year
And then you get eaten by a jaguar
desubot1@reddit
i think thats why op specified amazon wilderness (assuming rainforest).
still 10 years is a wee silly.
Unlikely-Ad3659@reddit
I'll be 65 by the time I get out, with maybe a 5% chance of survival and a 99% chance of going insane.
If I ever get out I don't think I will be in a condition to spend a billion dollars.
Nah, I will remain comfortable and poor.
Agreeable_Sense9618@reddit
10 years? No thanks.
I'd rather spend that time with my family.
