He explained it the best, he doesn't care about legacy, who the fuck cares about legacy? What would his family and loved once benefit from his legacy?
You think he would choose his own ego, and not participate in a 30 minute show for 28 million dollars just because he thinks that high of himself?
The dude is heavy shroom users, it's kinda hard to explain to someone who hasn't have a herioc does, but after a dose like that you just don't feel what's made you You, this dude frequently uses psychedelics which make it incredibly hard to care about something as Egotistic as legacy.
His legacy isn't even tarnished, he made himself relevant again, even in my country half a globe away people were talking about the fight, the fight was fixed and a WWE show, he didn't even risk getting knocked.
If you want to go there, why should he care about legacy? Just say a good reason.
Its just a way like many others to feel immortal and avoid the fear of death in my opinion. Now I want to hear whats yours
Again people commenting here should have no problems with the issue of legacy since beyond grandkids nobody will remember us.
But famous people have the power to change society and evolve culture. Future decisions of people will be influenced by what people today do. Great people will be influenced to do great things by the thought of legacy, they want their name to sound in ages and society as whole will benefit from it. Again, not an issue for us who are staying on a greentext sub
Also by people's logic here it would be better if we lived a hedonistic lifestyle, just be interested in the pleasures of the flesh. We'll die, so why not have as much fun as we can?
His children will have a better "legacy" because Mike put his ego aside for them. He decided that it's more important to him to leave behind (more) generational wealth than it is to leave behind a deceased father who at some point was HW champ. $28mil is worth more to him now than all the belts he won in the past.
There's a recording of Mike before he retired saying he doesn't want to disrespect the sport by continuing fighting past his prime and losing to lower tier fighters.
Even if he isn't coping with the decision his mindset definitely wasn't always like this
He makes his living getting hit in the head by the other people that are the best in the world at hitting people in the head - of course his rationale is going to be a bit foggy at times
Idk what the terms were. It might be what Bruce Willis was doing before he lost motor function, get as much as he can while he can. But do you think he ever intended on winning?
I'll fight Tyson and Paul 2v1 simultaneously if I get to play by the same rules: no real punches and we each get $20,000,000 for dancing around in the ring.
That would be an illegal punch which would likely lead to disqualification if the punch were to lead to a KO or TKO so an even quicker way to make money seeing as how most boxers are still paid if they DQ.
I’ll ~~fight Tyson and Paul 2v1 simultaneously if I get to~~ play ~~by the same rules: no real punches and we each get $20,000,000 for dancing~~ around in ~~the ring.
I’ll also show~~ my ass for free.
I thought Tyson was a near billionaire because of his weed farms?
There's a lot of new casual boxing fans who's first real watching a full fight would've been this.
Any boxing fan who watches the sport even semi regularly would know that Mike would lose this fight. He's 58 yrs old. Literally 31 years older than Paul.
Paul is not a great or even good boxer in the slightest, but he's a decent amateur. And Father time is undefeated. There would be nothing for him to gain by wailing on a clearly spent old man, who had health issues in the months leading up to the fight. No one wants to see Tyson landed on his ass and knocked the fuck out. So they had to just fuck around and he had to carry Tyson to the final bell.
The fight should never have been approved in the first place, but the money is just too good for anyone to pass up
If this was the best Paul could do, then Tyson in his prime would have straight up annihilated him. Hell, Tyson could have really fucked Paul up at this age, but money talks so it is what it is I guess.
The women's fight was insane. Eyeball about to fall out and she's like "nah I'm good." Then Tyson and Paul take a sixteen minute jog and make fools of us all for $60 million.
The contract Paul wrote up for Tyson stated he'd get penalized and make no money if he knocked Paul out in the first round, and if he wanted to make the full amount, he'd have to go all 8 rounds without murdering Paul, and let him win by decision.
Idiots who know nothing about boxing are surprised when two of the greatest p4p women’s boxers of our time put on a better show than a senior citizen and a glorified YouTube boxer.
You would expect so considering the severe injuries and health issues Tyson had moving into this fight. It feels like people forgot he had to pull out of the original date because of a severe stomach ulcer.
IMO this was the best possible outcome. Honor shown on both sides, nothing more than a sparring session, and entertaining co-main events. It could’ve gone much worse
I agree, for both of them this was the best it could've worked out, they both get their bag, nobody gets hurt. Tyson is open about how little he cares about the sport, he wanted to leave money for his kids and now he can.
I watched the Tyson v. Holmes fight to get hyped before hand. ofc the pace of the fight was worlds apart, I expected that. But Netflixes fight announcing was SO BAD compared to the old fight. Wish they would've just shut up they turned some already not great fights to shit with their dumb unnecessary commentary.
Glad-Tax6594@reddit
Think maybe that's what Tyson was foreshadowing in his interview before hand, about how legacies aren't shit and mean nothing. All about the $.
Hackeringerinho@reddit
He was trying to cope with his decision
Sultanambam@reddit
Cope with having tens of millions of dollars?
28 million? Hell I get it now, legacy are nothing.
Hackeringerinho@reddit
Yeah, the problem of what kind of legacy you leave is not something you ever have to worry about, you're not a famous person like Mike T.
Sultanambam@reddit

And he gained 28 millions.
Hackeringerinho@reddit
Yeah, so he knows he ruined his legacy and he went on a rant on how legacy means nothing in front of a kid. That's extreme coping.
But oh my god people who use psychedelics see the world in a different light, they are awakened. Hippie bs.

i mean alots happenes to the dude since he retired.
pretty sure his wife left him, his kid died, hes got 3 or 4 diff baby mamas im not even sure if hes still married to anyone.
i remember pre covid he was talking about how he has a ton of money but hes still lonely ( or something to that effect)
joe rogan kind of revitalized him by doing a few podcasts with him and just talking about random shit.
hes also done a shit ton of shrooms and other stuff since hes retired.
