How to find a captain?

Hey all. Outsider. I'm too much in love with the mountains to go down the sailing route.
However, I have a wedding in Mexico and I do not fly. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas/wisdom re. Finding someone who is heading that way by sail that I can hop on with? Not really looking to charter something commercial but instead find a cool individual that wouldn't be going too far out of the way to head over there. Of course willing to pay and do my share of labor. Thanks for your expertise!

You should just get over flying, it's way safer and less scary than sailing if I'm being honest. Whatever is scaring you about flying is going to be much gnarlier on a boat.
If it's health reasons of something, just drive. It'll take you a week but sailing will take you way longer. Overall this is a dumb plan.

Your risk of death will be much higher sailing a small vessel than flying in a commercial aircraft. Also you say nothing about where you’d be traveling from. Have you ever been on a sailboat in the open ocean?

For what it’s worth, he may object to flying not due to fear but instead for environmental reasons…

Could buy carbon offsets and unless their time is worth nothing, they’d still save by flying 😁

When no origin is mentioned OP is most likely American. r/USdefaultism

Sure, but Maine or Juneau is different from San Diego.

Could be from Anchorage wanting to sail to Cancun from all we know.

They also didn't really say where they are trying to go. Mexico is a big country and just saying Mexico isn't helpful.
If OP is at Big Bear and the wedding is Baja, OP may have some luck. Whistler to Cancun or Zermatt to Acapulco probably isn't happening.
Pretty big red flag for a captain looking for crew that OP doesn't include such important details.

According to his post history he's in Colorado. No sure how that's gonna work out.

It would be faster to walk or ride a bike than it would be to sail. Find another way.

Not to mention if he could deal with seasickness. Be a shame to find out this way.

Haters gonna hate…I hope you find a fb group, forum, or a Redditer that will help and it works out!

As a way of establishing cover for people or drug smuggling, this is a great plan. Kudos OP. Thinking outside the box.

You would have better luck by rail and or bus. Most sailboats would have crew by now. They also cannot guarantee arrival time.

Go by car or bus.

Drive

My mans about to spend 3 weeks getting to mexico cause he doesnt want to drive.

I have a feeling he is trying to miss the wedding and need a good excuse 😂

Mexico has two coasts. If you are planning to find travel from one US coast to the opposite MX coast, forget it.
Since you mention flying, I assume you’re talking a fairly long distance. Sailboats are very slow, surprisingly uncomfortable, and far less safe than flying.
You might, and I say might… somehow get lucky in finding a boat to be a passenger on in either direction… but your chances of finding passage on a boat in both directions around the weddding date are at best, vanishingly low. As in, paying for a wedding by buying a lottery ticket low.
This idea is pretty much a non-starter. There are better ways to get to and from your wedding.
Your only real option options are driving, or a combination of bus/trains.

You can drive to Baja. It’s easy.

You can try the sea people app

There are a number of volunteer crew web sites out there. Use caution, usually this sort of thing works out fine but there are occasional horror stories where people didn't get along. Sort of like roommates, it's important to have clear expectations for who does the dishes and how cleaned up is cleaned up.
