Is it better to give back your car or trade it in to the dealership?

Wtf do you mean by "give back your car" ?
SkeletorsAlt@reddit
I don’t understand your confusion.
Whenever I’m done with a car I take it out to the countryside and yell, “Go on. Get out of here. You’re free now!” At the same time I also clap my hands loudly and subtly tear up.

Brings a tear to my eye to see my old cars roam freely upstate!

Like nature intended.

I do this as well. I had one follow me back once, tho. Those German cars have really good noses and found its way back home.
SkeletorsAlt@reddit
Oh, I’ve seen this before.
Have you tried yelling, “Get!” and kicking dirt or rocks at the car while visibly sobbing?

I decided to keep them as lawn ornaments this year. Taxidermy is too expensive but hoping to have enough next year to hand their horn on my wall.

So it's waiting for maintenance at the mechanics?

Genuinely cracked up at this.

Ha, thanks!

It’s best to sell it privately. Biggest returns that way.
The dealer will sell it for more than they buy it for. That’s how business works. You could also sell it for more than they’d buy it for.

im under the impression this is a car that cannot be afforded any longer. a private sale is probably not the way to go.
SkeletorsAlt@reddit
Interesting. How do you reach that conclusion?
ingodwetryst@reddit
I have known people who have had to...return a car in this fashion before. Sometimes the dealer can work with you to make it as painless as possible. Trading it into another dealer is usually a better option I think. It's a tough situation no matter what you do.
SkeletorsAlt@reddit
Yep. Makes sense. Someone else explained too, so I see the inference you’re making now.
ingodwetryst@reddit
voluntary repo is one way of doing this, banks work with you at any point of your car loan on that one. giving it back is usually a much much shorter window but you'll be a little or less upside down if you can manage it
overindulgent@reddit
The phrase “give it back” makes me think OP can’t afford the vehicle. Hoping they can just drop the car back at the dealership and get out of all contractual obligations.
SkeletorsAlt@reddit
Ah. As good of an interpretation as any.
I’ve given up on trying to make sense of cryptic Reddit posts. Now I just make fun of them.

You can donate a used car to charity
bmanxx13@reddit
Voluntary repo? Call the bank and let them know. It’s their property. If you can walk away without being upside down I’d sell private. Dealer will lowball you

What do you mean by "give it back"? It sounds like you mean you want to surrender it. You do know that won't matter because you would still need to pay it off. If you trade it in they will at least give you some money for it, plus they would roll over the rest that you owe into the new vehicle.
Equana@reddit
Give it back to whom? Do you own this car or lease it?
