Thinking about upgrading from a i5-11400F, should I stay on the same platform or bite the bullet on AM5?

I have a 11400F paired with B560 mobo (And I paid terribly for both, because my smooth brain thought it was a good idea to blow it all upgrading from an i5-4460 in fucking 2021) and now I am contemplating getting a new upgrade again...
Though I'm very unsure on what to do! I've come with these options:
-
Try to find a good deal on a i7 11700k (currently they're priced terribly).
-
Jump over to a higher-end AM4 combo: 5700X3D with a decent mobo (The combo is more expensive than just getting the i7).
-
Expending even more money going to AM5, because I would need to change RAM too.
-
Being patient and wait till AM5 gets more mature/cheaper.
What would you do? I'd like to hear suggestions!

What problems are you facing? Why are you unhappy with your current build? 11400F is still an okay CPU

I don't how it plays on higher refresh rates, and I'm saving to buy a QHD 144Hz monitor coming from a FHD 60hz monitor that I used for over 10 years...
I'm thinking that maybe this lil guy isn't good enough for 144hz, we'll see!

Well, should be quite about the same as with FHD as the more resolution is increased, the more the load is shifted toward the GPU rather then the CPU.
You can get an approximate number for max fps in the games by reducing the resolution to 720p (which relieves the GPU from a lot of load) and then remove any limiter you have on FPS caps (VSync or Specific Framerate Limits per game).
Doing this would allow you to benchmark your CPU and see how many FPS it can reach, regardless of resolution (there is a little load increase on the CPU as well with higher resolution, but nothing compared to the GPU side).
So, TL;DR; you can bench this yourself by removing fps caps and lowering resolution on the games you already have, and see how much your CPU can push

Thanks for the advice! But I already tested some of the games I mostly play and most of the time I can get get to 144hz, specially if I turn FSR on.
But still, I don't know how good it will look lol, guess I'm about to find out =)

No problem, I don't know what GPU you got but that's the one who is going to suffer the most going from 1080p to 1440p, but for that you better look at some benchmarks (Would suggest the ones of 'Gamer Nexus' ).
Regardless, enjoy the jump... first time going from 60Hz to 144Hz is insane

I sure hope so! I just made my new monitor purchase =)
The one that I'm currently running is a 10+ year old Dell, 60Hz 1080p 19inch that has been running almost everyday for all those year (No, really, props to old Dell for making a monitor last this long with no backlight leaking after such a long time).
The new one that I purchased is 24inch, 1440p 144hz! I also made sure to check that QHD would provide more pixel density at 24inch than FHD at 19!
So I guess I'm in for a pleasent surprise!!!

AM5 with 8400F/7500F whichever is cheapest
flushfire@reddit
And get little to no improvement over the 11400F. Amazing value.
Every_Recording_4807@reddit
Platform entry point. It’s also very efficient.
UnderstandingSea2127@reddit
You'll get more upgrade options and updates in the future with AM5.
If you have nice RAM kit, you can try AM4.
i7 11700K won't get cheaper anytime soon.
Remarkable-Elk-1889@reddit (OP)
Yeah that's what I was thinking too... I really like my DDR4 RAM lol it's a nice kit
YamaVega@reddit
Upgrade to i7 instead. I had 10400 before, and jumped to 5600. It was an upgrade, but platform jumping is painful.
UraniumDisulfide@reddit
Assuming it’s for gaming, going from 11400 to 11700 will make very little if any difference
Remarkable-Elk-1889@reddit (OP)
Good to know!
dazzap80@reddit
Definitely go to AM5 when you can, 11th gen intel chips aren’t worth buying now unless you can find one for dirt cheap.
payagathanow@reddit
I have an 11400 in my TV PC and it's a little workhorse. What GPU are you running?
Remarkable-Elk-1889@reddit (OP)
RX 6700XT! I would benefit considerably pairing this one with and AMD cpu.
ChanceMeet3283@reddit
Either third or fourth option. the first one isn't worth it and the second one is a dead platform and only a good option if you are already on Am4 (or you find a great deal secondhand)
Remarkable-Elk-1889@reddit (OP)
Well going with either option 3 and 4 means that I'm going to wait because I definitely don't have the money to expend on AM5 now lol (brazilian import taxes are very abusive)...
I guess my little i5 is still getting a lot of mileage out of it lol
