What do you think of new Republika Srpska coat of arms in style of former Yugoslavia?

rydolf_shabe@reddit
is it referencing croats, bosniaks and serbs ?
elkosta@reddit (OP)
Yeah, bcs it has to represent all the three nationalities to be recognised unlike the one before 2007.
rydolf_shabe@reddit
i mean its looks nice, the fact that its representing all ethnicities is very good, i like that
2024-2025@reddit
They had no choice, they were forced to do that. They definitely didn’t want that
Benji1312@reddit
Because they had to, I’m 90% sure that if this law didn’t exist, it would only be Serbian
emirm990@reddit
Too bad that it doesn't recognise 3 nationalities in its name.
MISTER_WORLDWIDE@reddit
No, it’s referencing Serbs, Croats, and muslims. The moon and star a green background is the symbol of the Islamic community and not Bosniaks.
elkosta@reddit (OP)
Yeah, few lilium symbols would maybe represent Bosniaks much better
horkiesmasc@reddit
Current one is better
sergy777@reddit
Why Republika Srpska and Serbia don't consider to unite?
elkosta@reddit (OP)
Bosnian government,NATO,freaking USA and other
Tony-Angelino@reddit
Wait, it's Republika, but it features not one, but two crowns? The heraldic elemenst should have some meaning or justification, not be there just because they look good. Even historically it was never a kingdom.
elkosta@reddit (OP)
Look at current coat of arms,it has two crowns, one for serbian Nemanjic dynasty and other one for bosnian Kotromanic dynasty.
Pekamaan@reddit
I personali kinda like it..
SpookyPotato9-9@reddit
is this actually real or made up?
inevitable_entropy13@reddit
i thought this was a gay pride flag tbh
Anastasia_of_Crete@reddit
Love when Ex communist states do this, Russia is the best example where you will have traditional tsarist russian symbolism next to communist stuff
It really shows just how ideologically worthless communism really ended up being for these people and how nationalism is a far more powerful force that supersedes it, the soviet flag is just a historical flag for them, a banner they used during WW2, the motherland above all.
Imaginary_String_814@reddit
in my opinion it looks very bad, to much of everything and what do the 4 torches even represent ?
to much symbolism in the mid, islam crest, croat chess board, 4C + Serbian Eagle
i prefer the current one
elkosta@reddit (OP)
Man,these symbols represent 3 nationalities of Republic of Srpska and it has to be like that or it will be illegal.4 torches are there because it is made in style of former Yugoslavia, which had 4 torches which is too much for a crest shaped like this.
Imaginary_String_814@reddit
maybe there is a more sublte way to showcase this inclusion
madtrucker99@reddit
If it’s going to disappear like yugoslavia then why not
farquaad_thelord@reddit
doesnt look official, very amateur designing, the lines are very sloppy
Lydeeh@reddit
Why are you being downvoted lol. It really is a very bad work IF this is an official one.
The symmetry is wrong in many parts, the lines are wiggly. The moon and star are Islamic symbols and not Bosnian ones.
farquaad_thelord@reddit
it literally looks like something straight outta microsoft paint
elkosta@reddit (OP)
Bro acting like I am going to send this to a government of Bosnia and Herzegovina💀It is actually like a sketch and not something that could be a you know a serious competition for current coat of arms.BTW,let me see you make a better one.
farquaad_thelord@reddit
oh my bad i didnt know this was your design i thought this was the actual official coat of arms of republika srpska
NoExide@reddit
Samo stavi govno umjesto krune i jako će mi se sviđat.
Slavic_Dusa@reddit
I think that it is an insult to Yugoslavia
elkosta@reddit (OP)
Read the text that is over a photo.
raceregos@reddit
The shield alone would be more than enough. Altough it would be better with a different design. The crown on top of the shield maybe? And a bigger eagle to fit the red shield.
Socialist details are just annoying to see in the modern world.
The date is awful. Really unnecessary.
2 crowns at the same time is even worse.
elkosta@reddit (OP)
Again,it is made on Yugoslavia crest which had a socialist symbolism like this.I removed all the removable communist symbols.2 crowns are a Serbian and a Bosnian traditional crown.
Stverghame@reddit
Remove the communist symbolism and it is alright
elkosta@reddit (OP)
A goal here is to show how it would look if it was in Yugoslavia style.Communist symbolism here is necessary part because it would not look like Yugoslavia if I removed it.
Besrax@reddit
Even the modernized communist CoAs like this one look dated to me.
_orion_1897@reddit
That NATO should have actually went all and help the Bosnian army finish their job in Republika Srpska back in 1995, just as Croatia had done in Krajina and Slavonia
zollizolli@reddit
They stole it from the albos 👐🏻
elkosta@reddit (OP)
The two head eagle is actually byzantine symbol, but it was firstly used in the Balkans by a serbian Nemanjic dynasty, and a few centuries later a black eagle was adopted by many albanian tribes.
HumanMan00@reddit
The two-headed eagle as far as I know predates Byzantine use as royal heraldry.
The oldest depiction of the heraldry in Serbia is from 1190 while the Palaliologos family rises to royal power in 1259.
Now this is just based on what ive read around if someone knows better plz correct me.
AllMightAb@reddit
The oldest depiction of the eagle heraldy comes from Albanians comes from the Progon family that established the Prinicpality of Arbanon in established in 1190. Same year as the Serbs it seems.
HumanMan00@reddit
Interesting - Progon means “Chase” in Serbian.
Thing is this depiction is the oldest one we found in both cases it might be older.
AllMightAb@reddit
Yeah Progron entered the Serbian Language through Albanian, its a word you borrowed from us.
What do you mean by this?
HumanMan00@reddit
Progon is present in all three Slavic family branches mostly with the same meaning as in Serbia 🤷🏻
AllMightAb@reddit
Well i remember reading this somewhere and since iam to lazy to find the source i asked Chatgpt:
"Yes, the word progon in Serbian (and other South Slavic languages) is believed to have entered through Albanian. The word progon in Serbian means "to persecute" or "to expel," and it closely resembles the Albanian word progon, which means "to persecute," "to chase away," or "to expel."
This word's presence in Serbian and its similarity to the Albanian form suggest a borrowing, likely due to the historical contact between Albanians and Slavs in the Balkans, particularly during the medieval and Ottoman periods. The South Slavic languages, including Serbian, absorbed many words from Albanian due to prolonged interactions in the region.
While progon could have a native Slavic root (related to "to drive" or "to chase"), the form and meaning are closer to the Albanian word, indicating that it is a likely borrowing rather than a native Slavic development."
I asked for the source and it gave me: Rečnik srpskog jezika
Also the wiki labels it as an Albanian etymology:
https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/Progon
a_bright_knight@reddit
The word progon comes from the verb "goniti" (chase, persuit) , the prefix "PRO" (used to augment verbs/nouns, very common in slavic languages) + "GON" which is the root of goniti (iti being the infinitive ending), therefore PROGON. It's present in other Slavic languages and it originates from proto slavic.
So the word definitely isn't of Albanian origin, stop being so confidently incorrect, pretty sure we had another etymology argument that went the same way (unless I'm mistaking u but i think not).
AllMightAb@reddit
You Nationalist Serbs live in delusion pseudo and revision of history and iam not going to humor your collective mental illness.
Anyone with a brain can do their own research if they are interested iam done arguing with your type of people.
a_bright_knight@reddit
since you're incapable of reasoning - I'm clearly talking about the Serbian word progon, not the last name of some random family from 600 years ago.
It was you who said the serbian word progon has albanian origins when it clearly does not. Now, you misunderstand an argument you started and instead of owning up to the mistake you choose to be an asshole. Well done
HumanMan00@reddit
This than implies impact of Slavic languages on East and West Slavs.
Not impossible i think we were the first to start writing but still a bit weird.
Dont get me wrong - i dont mind having Albanian words in Serbian at all.
HumanMan00@reddit
Well it’s easy to assume the symbol appeared in those two instances out of thin air but it probably predates the date of the first example that we have.
1190 is the year a fresco in a Serbian church wqs made using that symbol but it probably was used before that.
The same goes for the Progon family.
A symbol will usually be around for a while before it enters Royal heraldry and official use. Especially a specific one like this one.
AllMightAb@reddit
No.
The first eagle Albanian adopted was a one headed white one, which was the heraldry of the Progoni family that established the Prinicpality of Arbanon in 1190.
AllMightAb@reddit
Damn thats pretty crazy, you got Boshniak and Croatian symbols inside the Serb eagle. Looks so wrong like an abomination
Straight_Warlock@reddit
Maybe it is supposed to be just an eagle here? Many countries have eagles on coats of arms, and there is a serbian symbol along boshniak and croatian on the eagle too
AllMightAb@reddit
I thought the white eagle with a crown was an exclusively Serb symbol?
Straight_Warlock@reddit
It is definitely controversial
Fickle-Message-6143@reddit
That eagle was coat of arms in Kingdom of Yugoslavia, it is not recent creation.
Osstj7737@reddit
Needs more different crowns
blumonste@reddit
Crescent and star? Interesting.
HubertCumberdale4942@reddit
Nice! The eagle has a green speedo.
SnakeX2S2@reddit
That’s just the Kingdom of Yugoslavia coat of arms with a communist twist.
elkosta@reddit (OP)
Actually yeah, because the style of old Kningdom of Yugoslavia coat of arms is the best one to represent all the three nationalities. And about communism, look at Macedonia badge, they only removed the red star at the top.
SnakeX2S2@reddit
I don’t think republika srpska would like to represent all three nationalities when they tried so hard to get rid of the non-serbs.
A new macedonian coat of arms is not really popular there, they are the most nostalgic for SFRJ. But the wheat circle is classic communist style coat of arms, look up literally any former communist state.
Fickle-Message-6143@reddit
It is written in constitution of Srpska that three ethnicies have same rights and same standing.
Magistar_Idrisi@reddit
Yeah, but it doesn't mean they actually want to promote that equality.
Fickle-Message-6143@reddit
Neither did Kingdom of Yugoslavia, but still had that coat of arms.
alpidzonka@reddit
It would sure be an ironic twist of fate to have the coat of arms of RS include the checkerboard and the star and crescent.
jebiga_au@reddit
I like the idea of including all three groups in a single emblem.
For this particular concept, the overall style isn’t my cup of tea. Sorry.
Forward-Disaster-481@reddit
Better than the current one
Fickle-Message-6143@reddit
I think that this or last mounth assembly of Srpska adopted Serbia's coat of arms. Don't know if OHR annulled it.
Sudden_Shock8434@reddit
The eagle seems to be wearing underwear with the Ottoman flag on it. I think this symbolizes that the Serbians miss their sultan daddy.
Zealousideal-Put1250@reddit
Komunjarska jugoslovenstina
elkosta@reddit (OP)
Spoj nespojivog.
MrDDD11@reddit
It's nice that they are representing the 3 constituent peoples of Bosnia.
tarn_198@reddit
Ugly
elkosta@reddit (OP)
I respect your opinion
tarn_198@reddit
Just kidding, looks cool
