Are Samsung monitors as bad as people say?

So as titled, I was looking at getting this monitor. That price is in AUD, just as an FYI.
I have researched monitors a decent amount. Can't afford an OLED, while the monitor I linked seems to be one of the better ones with its features. While the reviews online are good and some youtubers I have looked up recommend that one. Basically all over reddit/facebook etc, people just trash the living fuck out of Samsung monitors. Doesn't even seem to be limited to one kind.
I also get the general logic of people will voice their dislike at an much higher rate than something working well for them. But thinking about spending 1k+ on an monitor and it might not even work out of the box or after a few months has given me pause. Now I'm unsure what to do.
So is it all fearmonger or is there something to be concerned about?
If there is some real concern, what would be an good monitor?
MainerZ@reddit
I have that exact monitor and it's been great. People talk about the 'aggressive curve', it's fine for me. 'Monitors Unboxed' does good reviews and comparisons, and I checked a few other channels who did relevant testing on it, and with price I got it for I'm very happy.
M_Dutch97@reddit
How is side vieuwing (for office work) with the curve?
nedal8@reddit
Remember when "flat screens" were all the rage? lol
Admiral_peck@reddit
Can tell you it sucks. Gf has one she games on and watching her screen from behind her makes me sick, but she loves it.
2raysdiver@reddit
Do you 3D game yourself? About 10% of people get motion sickness from FPS games. Second, curved screens are designed to be right in front of you - they are literally designed to be viewed by one person.
MainerZ@reddit
Only an OLED is going to be good in that regard. It's ok, but I bought a 4k curved primary monitor to game on. So this isn't a consideration.
itsabearcannon@reddit
Don’t buy an OLED for office work either lol.
Text fringing is godawful on pretty much all OLEDs from what I’ve seen, and that’s coming from someone who bought that new 27” ASUS 1440p OLED. Love it for gaming, despise it for reading text, would return it if I had any more days left on the return policy.
Difficult_Bit_1339@reddit
It depends on the subpixel layout which will vary between manufacturers. The LG OLED panels do text perfectly fine (The 4k displays at least)
Atheist-Gods@reddit
I thought LG’s WOLED was the worst for text, but yes 4k tends to render the subpixel issues moot.
Difficult_Bit_1339@reddit
When in doubt, just double the DPI! :P
notorious__lightning@reddit
Sure got quiet after the video I made.
the_lamou@reddit
Maybe not the one OP linked to, but I just replaced my G7 with a G9 OLED primarily for work and it's absolute magic.
UnlimitedDeep@reddit
Side viewing of a curved monitor is of course going to be suboptimal
Critical_Mass_1887@reddit
I have same monitor for 5 or 6 years. Probably a slighly older verson im sure. But its been great and side viewing is clear and fine.
airmantharp@reddit
Its' great on a gently-curved IPS (in front of me).
Real-Nectarine-2738@reddit
LOL
SirOutrageous1027@reddit
I use these two monitors for work with no problem. You don't put them both straight in front of you, you form a semi-circle, works fantastic.
FunBuilding2707@reddit
Using a curved monitor for office work is already bad idea for this alone. There's zero reason to use a curved monitor at the office.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
They are one of the videos I watched where they recommended it. OLED cost roughly 2-2.2k for me. Which is just insane really. I was drawn to the Neo G7 because it has mini LED, from videos/reviews. Seems to have great colours, outside of going full OLED monitors.
There is the much cheaper Samsung G7, which really is much cheaper. 800ish, compared to the 1400 for this one. But colours or more the black just didn't seem straight up black. That's again going off Monitors Unboxed reviewing them. One could weight up if the increase in cost is worth it. But was hoping I could pick it up for cheaper during black friday or just some sale.
depaay@reddit
I have this monitor and its great. I have a OLED tv in the same room and besides some minor blooming on the mini-led they perform similarly in terms of black level. I would not go for the non mini-led samsung’s as I remember they had issues + their black levels are bad. The neo line is good though.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
I have seen some of them, their blacks are really more greyish in colour. Which would really suck for gaming. Wouldn't assume it would work in those dark rooms, showing all the colour in all their glory.
VFRdave@reddit
For use by a single person, for entertainment (movies and gaming), 1000R curve is fantastic. I actually have an even more curved 800R LG monitor and I love it so much, I'm adopting it as my new heir and throwing out my firstborn.
But if you're doing Excel productivity shit at work and your pointy-headed boss comes by every day to look at your monitor and check up on your work, then yeah curve is not good and you should stick to a flat monitor.
Dunmordre@reddit
I've always found the settings are petty odd and difficult to figure out how to set them to avoid messing up the picture, while a normal monitor is straight forward. I blame their marketing department, honestly. They seem to make everything they sell complicated in an unhelpful way just to seem more advanced when it's just worse.
I have a large 4k qled Samsung monitor and it just won't show the bios whatever you do. And hdmi port 1 is only 30hz while port 2 is 60hz. Why???
Don't get me wrong, they are decent monitors, just with some annoying quirks.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
There is other comments of people all saying the same issue. It doesn't show shit when it boots up, until the OS has fully loaded. Which is an weird and strange thing to happen.
Dunmordre@reddit
Yeah, apparently there's a workaround of having the menu showing, but it's just a pain and at times impossible if it's asking you to press a certain button for a particular reason. You might never know something important had happened.
Dunmordre@reddit
I've anyways found Dell monitors to be excellent, though having said that I did just have a Dell G2724D stop working. They sent out a replacement quickly and then a couple of days later sent a courier to pick up the faulty monitor. Most companies will do it the other way round and you'll be waiting for the repair.
X_irtz@reddit
The reason these monitors are hated are because of the VA panel, which tends to have pretty bad response times and thus visible "ghosting" and "smearing". This is not at all exclusively a Samsung issue, most VA's are like that, it's just that Samsung for the most part only uses the VA panel type. I have, however, heard of certain Samsung models having the best VA panels, just not sure which models exactly, might wanna do some research. Generally, i'd go with IPS - you may lose on contrast, but you definitely get way better response time and much less ghosting.
yungfishstick@reddit
Cheaper VA panels exhibit more smearing and ghosting. You'll generally find a high quality IPS panel before you find a high quality VA panel because the former are cheaper and more common. Samsung does have some VA panels that lack any noticeable ghosting/smearing but they're on the expensive side. I have an Odyssey G7 and for having a VA panel it exhibits no visible ghosting or smearing, but MSRP was about $600-$700. Luckily I got mine used for $400 but that's still kind of expensive.
Armed_Buoy@reddit
The monitor he posted (Neo G7) is one of the ones with their "good" VA. I have/had a monitor with a similar display, the Neo G8, and there's no visible ghosting and very little noticeable black smearing. What it does, have, however, is absolutely horrendous VRR flicker under certain conditions. It's something OLEDs are usually criticized for, but in my experience the G8's flicker is exponentially worse than the LG WOLED I briefly tried.
Mike123231@reddit
Bad sample? I've noticed no flickering on my G8. Only thing I've noticed is scanlines at 240hz.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
How common is the scanlines for you? That was my first choice, but seeing an video of those scanlines appearing would be an "hell no" moment for me.
Though they did say it only appears at high refresh rate, could argue the chance is low of getting the refresh rate that high on most games.
Mike123231@reddit
Honestly during gaming I don't notice them. They are quite small. And only easily noticeable on bright orange/red colors. At least on my display. You'd also be correct and would be perfectly safe setting the refresh rate to 144hz entirely sidestepping the scanline issue.
I'm rocking a 7800x3d/4090 and theres only a handful of games I get near 240fps to utilize the refresh rate. But I'm not really bothered by the scanlines despite knowing they are there so I keep it on 240hz.
Armed_Buoy@reddit
Something changed in mine, because I didn't experience it at all for my first ~6 months of ownership until it suddenly started happening. It's definitely something inherent to these Samsung VA panels, though, because RTings documented it during their testing and Samsung clearly anticipated the issue by including a "VRR Control" feature to somewhat counteract it. I haven't found any way to fix it now that it's started beyond either disabling Gsync or using the aforementioned VRR control feature (which introduces input latency and stuttering), so it ended up being the final straw that pushed me to replace my G8.
moffetts9001@reddit
I have a 57" G9 and while it is a VA panel, I personally much prefer it over past IPS displays in general because of their often severe backlight bleed and terrible contrast.
X_irtz@reddit
Backlight bleed and poor contrast are definitely issues that affect a decent portion of IPS displays, however, from my use case, they are not as annoying as ghosting. Also, the more contrasty the image, the easier it is to notice ghosting on those VA displays.
BladeJogger303@reddit
I have a Samsung Odyssey G7 (curved 27” VA panel, 1440p, 240hz).
The main downsides are that the HDR is pretty shitty, and with certain static content, faint “scanlines” are noticeable
BladeJogger303@reddit
No the big positive of these Samsung VA panel monitors is that they have fantastic response time.
They’ve had other issues with flickering and scanlines but who knows how common those are
CrazyElk123@reddit
I have a 21:9 g5, and the smearing is not too bad at all. Only in some specific scenarios is it vissible. Overall, the best 350 bucks ive ever spent.
Dormidont@reddit
I own G7 Neo 4K and it's perfect, except for one thing - you can't see shit until OS boots. It's a known issue, you need to have monitor display's menu visible when you reboot.
ATWPH77@reddit
This happens on all the Samsung monitors that have OS right?
Dunmordre@reddit
I have a fairly normal qled monitor that also does this, u85?, so I suspect that this is all Samsung monitors.
Dormidont@reddit
Looks like that. G7 and G9 are surely affected
Dunmordre@reddit
Oh, I didn't know you could get it to show with the menu open. I had given up on getting into the bios with a Samsung monitor.
Mr_Chaos_Theory@reddit
I thought it was an issue with my RTX 4090 stopping me from booting to bios the whole time, ive been removing my GPU and plugging HDMI into my motherboard to boot to bios. WTF
ProjectManagerAMA@reddit
This was me two weeks ago. Going absolutely nuts for 12 hours trying to get into BIOS. Once I reset the BIOS, all I got was a black screen.
I later figured out it was waiting for me to hit F1 to confirm the BIOS change and it wasn't booting.
Gold-Program-3509@reddit
theres usually a setting in bios where you can switch between igpu / pcie display at boot
Dormidont@reddit
It works on 3080 Ti. It works if I press reset while in Windows. It works with different monitor. It works if I call the menu on the display. Guess what's set in BIOS?
Gold-Program-3509@reddit
allright then
Dormidont@reddit
It worked for me with 3080 Ti, but not with 4070 Super. There's s a UEFI update for 4080/4090 which confused me at the start, but it's not applicable to Super. KFA2 (aka Galax) support pointed out that video card was not too blame and sent me to Reddit 😁
evangelism2@reddit
Thats a pretty big issue and would stop it from being called 'perfect'
Dormidont@reddit
That's why I warned OP. I have a cheap spare monitor, so no big deal for me.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
That's an really weird issue. But good to know.
Gold-Program-3509@reddit
check your bios setting and force display trough pcie
Lenty-@reddit
I have two OLED Samsung and they are great - I got a Dell and was not satisfied- Samsung 4Ever 💜
BillyGates00@reddit
Most monitors are bad because all of you guys buy them. Always look for gtg-ms, hz and vrr. MPRT is anti-blur which is needed because of the screen being above 2ms gret to grey ms.
its-a-bad-idea-@reddit
If you are in Australia, there are plenty of 240hz OLED or even 360hz options especially on sale right now for Black Friday. Even on the same website you can get one for like 900AUD if you are ok with 27"
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
Not sure about going back to 27". Got an 32 atm. Felt too big when I originally got it, but some games the extra viewing is just awesome. If it's really worth the extra size if I can get an better monitor for smaller is the question.
Fun-Psychology4806@reddit
Every brand of tv/monitor I have bought since flat screens came about has crapped out on me. Samsung, LG, sony, dell, acer.
For 1k I would get the warranty and I am typically against warranties. But I have been burned many times.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
Dam you sound just cursed with them all.
Fun-Psychology4806@reddit
i look at monitors as a consumable at this point. i know they won't last more than 5 years. which is fine for a $300 screen but not $1k+
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
I probably have brought a new monitor every 3-4 years. Which is the same with tvs. Mostly chasing whatever is new and fancy, since it used to feel like it was flying by.
MrFilthyNingen@reddit
I have the 32 inch 1440p curved variant. Honestly I have no real complaints about it. Granted it’s a few years old now, so there’s probably better options out in the market.
millerheizen5@reddit
I mean.. that’s $910 usd. You can get the best OLED 4k gaming monitor in existence for another $400 usd. I have both the monitor you linked and next to it is an Asus Rog Swift 32in 4k OLED and the difference is staggering. Well worth the extra money.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
If only the exchange rate kept true. That Asus rog swift would cost me 2.4k. Wouldn't want to spend over 2k. Also getting an new PC as well, but might get some OLED.
MrLumie@reddit
Never had a problem with a Samsung monitor. Now, Samsung Smart TVs... that's a whole other topic.
PoshinoPoshi@reddit
I had the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9. I bought it because I’m normally a dual monitor user and thought I’d get really good results getting a single panel. I just reread that you’re looking at the G7. The curve isn’t that bad actually. The only other issue I had with it was that MiniLED was SUPER bright.
I didn’t last a year before I sold it to a friend. I ended up regretting not getting an OLED panel then switching to a 4K QD-OLED monitor: the ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM. I pair that with an LG DualUp and I’ve been loving it every day. True Black 400 is bright enough for me. HDR2000 is crazy for a monitor up close.
I don’t regret switching. I think it’s because I value OLED more than anything else. I think if you don’t care about OLED, go for it. If you do, I recommend saving up a bit more.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
Besides the money issue of going OLED, would cost me around 2k. Which is really an "DAM" moment. At that rate it becomes an "Well I could get an better gpu over this". Though depending the price point between the 5080 to the 5090. I expect it be huge.
I have heard of issues around burn in rates. Not just the fact of if, but when. Gaming is easily my main hobby, weekends are generally heavy gaming sessions. So it becomes more an "will I see burn in rates after 2 years".
PoshinoPoshi@reddit
To alleviate some worry regarding burn in, there are so much burn in mitigation nowadays and the fact that all the good OLED monitors have a three year warranty make having an OLED a chill experience.
I personally have an LG C2 I’ve had for almost three years and I’ve been using my PG32UCDM everyday for over four hours a day (video games and production work) and haven’t experienced any burn in that I could notice from normal use. I’m a stickler for attention to detail as well (the type of guy to ensure his monitors are color matched).
Every four hours, my monitor goes into pixel refresh. That’s 6min of my monitor “waking up” each individual pixel to prevent burn in. There’s also pixel shifting where it moves the whole screen a couple pixels over so it isn’t on the same pixel displayed. And there’s dimming after inactivity.
Even after all that, I still have a three year warranty that I’m chilling on. I do concede that the prices are absurd. If you are interested though, check out the MSI MPG32URX. Cheapest QD-OLED with the same solid panel as the others. Or try out LG’s WOLED panel monitors.
/r/OLED_Gaming if you want to dive down that rabbit hole.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
That's good to hear on the burn in. I can often be using my PC, 5hrs+ a night, can be much longer on weekends. So really was thinking my possibly longer daily hours would just increase it.
But I had no idea it had built in features to reduce the chance of burning in. Having that 3 year warranty is of course an huge positive.
To put it shortly, my current PC is ancient. Finally got money to dump onto an really good setup. Got the system itself downpat easy enough, when the new parts do drop. But monitors I'm clueless on.
Looking them up now, it seems even more confusing than the rest of the PC.
PoshinoPoshi@reddit
To help you on your monitor journey, I would recommend checking out Monitors Unboxed.

Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
Thanks for all this. More research for me.
bewsh123@reddit
I recently bought one of these in Perth. I wanted to love it, the curve actually worked well, and the picture was really good.
I unfortunately had horrible horizontal lines through blue and orange colours. I tried to ignore them but god damn they just got on my nerves so much. I tried to go through Samsung to repair.
Their initial support was very good… but the service centre I went to were very poor. Tested the monitor on a dvd player and claimed they couldn’t replicate the issue…. Charged me $100 for the inconvenience. Took it home and plugged it in, and they’re pretty clearly seen. Took photos of an image on the defective screen and my old monitor and sent them to the repair centre and they said they’re waiting for Samsung to direct them.
In the end I gave up, showed the images to the retailer I bought it from and returned it.
Bought an AW322QF instead (recently been about $1500 AUD) and couldn’t be happier.
The Samsung monitors aren’t inherently bad, but their QC is terrible in my experience and pretty hard to get them to acknowledge a fault. Dell/Alienware have great warranty on their monitors and are pretty handy spec
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
Seems to be the common theme. Flip a coin, can be awesome or terrible.
Though seeing yours and other comments. Seems better to save a bit more and just getting an OLED.
sinner_dingus@reddit
Call me crazy but I ended up liking their 32” IPS Odyssey G5 quite a lot, coming from a similarly priced (-$500 USD) Asus ROG curved VA. The difference in low light gradients and moving objects in dark scenes is drastic. The color calibration can be dialed in to perfection. It’s not super fancy, but my local Best Buy had this one on display next to the OLEDS and it looked a lot closer than any other non oled screen. I’m sure I’m a pleb, but perfectly satisfied with the IPS G5.
Crash3636@reddit
My Samsung g9 just died last night after months of non stop little issues. It’s been a headache since I got it. My g5 was excellent. Never a single issue. Seems like a mixed bag. I’ll probably opt for another brand next time.
NS4701@reddit
I have that exact monitor. I love it, no regrets. I've had it for about 2 years now. It's also great to play Xbox Series X or PS5 on.
I personally would not buy an OLED for a PC. PCs have too much static images and can easily burn in. I know you can do things to reduce the risk, but I know my habits, so I know myself to not buy an OLED monitor for PC. To each their own though.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
Gaming wise OLED seem fine. But if someone happen to spend a lot of time just surfing the web. That's where it seems to be an real issue.
nanonan@reddit
You can afford an oled if you can afford that. Here's a similar oled.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
Hmm curious I never saw that. All the OLED monitors I looked up started at 2k.
geniuslogitech@reddit
it's alright but not worth the price in current market, 16:9 monitors have become A LOT cheaper over the past year, year and a half, you can get a bit better IPS from MSI for a lot lower price
https://www.ple.com.au/Products/663557/msi-mag-323upf-32-4k-160hz-ips-monitor?srsltid=AfmBOopvyGJa-vxAI6aoBgjGPgU0DJNJaONIcCguP_hfsNbAD8P5hWBW
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
That's weirdly cheap compared to others I have been looking up. Wouldn't have mini led, but still.
CrudePCBuilder@reddit
My guy, don't go to JB Hi-Fi for monitors unless you have a staff discount mate working there. I was tempted to buy that monitor as it went down to something stupid like $600-$700 at Bing Lee. I went to see it in person and the curve was a bit much for me.
I'm not sure where you're looking, but if you're planning on spending that $1399 it's currently listed at, I'd suggest checking out other PC enthusiast retailers like Scorptec, MSY, etc for deals. I wanted to check out how much my G8 OLED is going for after seeing the JB Hi-Fi price, and if you're fine with 1440p over 4k, I'd very highly recommend the Samsung G8 OLED which is currently sitting at $1199 with Scorptec.
PCPP is a good tool to find prices, but I'd also recommend Static Ice. Neither are perfect, but if you know what you're looking for, they're amazing tools.
FYI, the G8 is really nice but you do have to remember that it is an OLED and if you want it to last, you need to turn on the features that prolong the screen's life. The most obvious and annoying one actually moves the screen a pixel or two across periodically. It's noticable, but will save your screen from burn in in the long run.
SampleLegend@reddit
I own the Samsung Odyssey G7 28” edition. It’s great and I don’t have any complaints.
Bucketnate@reddit
People say a lot of things on the internet. I stopped watching "youtube reviews" a long time ago. I dont think its healthy for people to have so much reach and power online. If you know what youre looking for and Samsung is one of the options just compare and go for it.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
Yeah it's the problem that if you have an negative experience you are more likely to share than an positive one.
My problem is I overthinking, while over researching everything. At some point too much looking does really hurt me. But it's just because of the money, if it was so much cheaper. Wouldn't bother me. Which is how I just brought monitors in the past.
Individual-Voice4116@reddit
This is because a lot of ppl faced the poor quality control Samsung applies on their screens. At some point, it stops being just a coincidence.
Bucketnate@reddit
I guess I trust too much for samsung to fix that in later models after people report it to them
agent_wolfe@reddit
I think I spent $700 on my Samsung monitor about 7 years ago. No complaints.

seems that Samsung have many monitors under the name "Odyssey Neo G7"
so the reviews that u search need to be specific to the name 'LS32BG752NEXXY'.
in ratings.com there isn't review of that monitor, the 4 'Odyssey Neo G7' some look great some meh...
and also did not found at google something good.
so personally without a good review i would stay away from it.
also what is ur gpu right now? if its not 4080+ i dont see a reason to get 4k monitor.
also if u play competitive gaming i would defiantly wouldn't go for 4k, and would get a good 1440p gaming high refresh rate monitor...

I was thinking the G8 at one point, but their flicking problems seemed a lot more common.
dask1@reddit
the monitor that op linked is LS32BG752NEXXY
depaay@reddit
Its the same monitor. S32BG75 is the model, the rest of the model number depends on geographic region.

dask1@reddit
damn, if what u saying is true Samsung are dumb AF to do it xD
depaay@reddit
They have always done it. They ship with different power cables based on region, maybe different language for manuals etc, so they need to differentiate the products geographically somehow.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
This monitor is all apart of an bigger plan. Got an old system, been planning/saving for an whole PC rebuild for awhile. One of those classic moments of "Well don't really need it now, so why not wait" moments. It's only been more pushed up because my PC lately sounds like an jet engine. Will get an 5080 when it does launch, with an whole new build of course.
I don't play online games. Mostly play RPGs/strategy games. So higher refresh rate isn't something that bothers me. Rather get something that make games look awesome.
medozijo@reddit
3080 will run perfectly fine on 4k. I only buy 4k screens now and my old and new PCs are ok with it. Haf a 3060 before that did struggle with the new Dragon age.
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
Oh if only I had an 30 series. I'm much further back with an 1070.
Did buy a 4k screen a bit back. Very basic 4k one at that, that's when I did have plans to upgrade but then covid pricing and all happened. Runs it pretty well, naturally not with games that are new. But lasting way longer than it really should.
Deto@reddit
With DLSS you can use a 4k for gaming without much of a performance hit.
Generally, though, I just like a 4k for web usage and coding. Text just looks cleaner.
Fun-Agent-7667@reddit
Unless you do a lot of graphik design and stuff. Then you might want an 4k monitor still.

Meh, Samsung is a bit of a hit and miss company in my opinion.
Mine and my friends Samsung gaming monitors from 2018 both died. Samsung kitchen and washing appliances suck as well. Their TV's and phones are ok though.
boredinthegta@reddit
My TV died 2 months outside of a 2 yr warranty. Panel shorted out. Repair cost of 85% of purchase price. $2000.00 tv. Samsung basically told me to get fucked. Turns out the entire line was garbage, and everyone who bought this type was seeing the same type of failure. Didn't matter to them. TVs are not okay. Do not buy from this company. They do not care about providing a functional product.
KaiEkkrin@reddit
I have a Samsung Odyssey G7 from a few years back (27" 1440p 240Hz, VA panel.) The picture is pretty good. The response time of the controls to adjust picture and input is measured in minutes.
SirThunderDump@reddit
I have the 32” variant of this one. There’s good and bad about the panel.
The good: - Excellent for a VA. Decent enough colors, performs great at 240hz. - The curve grows on you and is kind of nice for media consumption after a while. Still prefer flat for 32” and smaller, but the curve is not bad.
The bad: - There’s noticeable VRR flicker on darker scenes. It can be very distracting in darker games - The monitor is slow to boot up. - The computer seems to fully disconnect the monitor when it goes to sleep/powers off. This causes some minor issues with windows lagging/taking time to stabilize after turning the monitor back on.
The horrible: - Switching between display inputs can range from slow to literally impossible if you don’t remove the power cord then plug it back in. - Sometimes freezes (mostly when switching input sources). - OSD sometimes lags to the point it’s unusable. - Various other bugs requiring hard reset.
If I was exclusively using this monitor with just my PC (so no input switching or frequent OSD use), I’d say it’s very good. But for a multi-machine setup, I don’t recommend. Not sure if other Samsung panels are like this.
Yz-Guy@reddit
I have the same one. More or less. Except it's IPS. I bought it bc i thought it would be better than my ASUS ones. And honestly. It's just not. Maybe their OLEDS are better. But I wouldn't buy another Samsung non oled one.
Chrisbee76@reddit
Saying "I have the same one" and then stating that yours actually has a completely different type of panel is... misleading.
Yz-Guy@reddit
Maybe my knowledge is wrong but I was under the impression VA and IPS were pretty similar.
FunBuilding2707@reddit
Yes. Yes, it is. That is a major consideration when picking monitors, almost as important as size and resolution.
Yz-Guy@reddit
Cool. I appreciation the correction from all of you!
Chrisbee76@reddit
IPS panels generally have better refresh rates, response times, and viewing angles.
VA panels generally have better contrast.
IPS has better color accuracy, which makes them superior in applications where color performance matters. VA panels have the edge in shadow and highlight details and are superior when watching movies.
airmantharp@reddit
Some VA panels tend to lag in text rendering as well - something to verify with reviews while considering one. I have several that have to be run with scaling or text is straight up blurry (and one laptop that is totally fine...).
Julzjuice123@reddit

Weilbe@reddit
Almost never post on Reddit but I will tell you that my old daily driver was a Samsung g7 that ended up splitting from the seams. The quality control was ridiculously bad and it was only about 2 years old. Along with the monitor splitting at the seams as well as the subpar backlight bleed out of the box, I am never going to purchase a Samsung monitor again. PS many other people have found similar issues with Samsungs curved monitors as well.
iCantThinkOfUserNaem@reddit

Yo Samsung fanboy here when it comes to monitors. Have currently both the original odyssey and the og ark.
Im not sure why people say theyre bad because ive been very satisfied so far.
ddengel@reddit
Personally I own a g8 OLED. It looks fantastic and is super smooth. It is also the buggiest piece of shit I've ever owned in my life. 99% of the time the monitor will not wake up from sleep and I have to hard reset it by holding the power button. For the first 6 months that I owned the monitor it also would display a flickering line of pixels at the bottom of the screen and I would have to toggle HDR off and on again to get them to go away. I've never had the bug myself but a lot of people have complained about the automatic volume control freaking out on their monitor. Anytime I switch monitors or the monitor display goes to sleep and I turn it back on sometimes the resolution is completely fucked up and requires a hard reset of the monitor as well.
Long story short I'll never buy a Samsung again.
Torhov@reddit

Love my odyssey G9. But make sure that you check that it can do everything you want. Don't be fooled by all the text of 4k.
Mine it's listed as 4k but it's technically 2 x 27" 2k monitors and you need a 90series to get the 240hz.
But it does what I need it to do and I don't think I can use a non ultra wide now
jawsofthearmy@reddit
Thought the G9 was duel 4k, it’s listed as 7680 x 2160.
Ziuchi@reddit
I believe that's the Neo G9. I got the first version which was the non oled
jawsofthearmy@reddit
Make sense - didn’t know the G9 was like that. Good to know
LOSTandCONFUSEDinMAY@reddit
That's just how resolutions work when you use the horizontal resolution but change the aspect ratio. Also it would have been referred to as a 5k monitor not.
And the 4090 and 4060 have the same output capabilities. To get the full 240hz you'd either need to use the HDMI 2.1 port or use compression on displayport. Or get rx7000 series which comes with dp 2.1 as standard
Ziuchi@reddit
Would a 4070 be able to give the full 240hz? I bought this when the 30 series came out and at the time I had heard that the 3090 was the only one at the time that could give me the full 240hz
LOSTandCONFUSEDinMAY@reddit
Depends on what you mean. An rtx3050 could get a 4k (equivalent to 5k super ultrawide) 240fps video output if you use the correct port/dsc settings.
However even a 4090 would struggle to actually render modern games at that resolution&fps at maxed settings.
LamentableFool@reddit
Anecdotally, in nearly 30 years I've never had a monitor fail except for my curved Samsung. It got white lines all over until it heated up and appeared to fix itself.
audigex@reddit
Samsung monitors aren't bad
They're arguably a bit expensive for what they are compared to competitors who produce either better monitors for the same money, or a similar monitor for less
But it's all very situational and there are some very good Samsung monitors, good bargains to be had etc
Personally I think 1000 USD/1400 AUD on a monitor is insanity either way - you can get an excellent monitor for half that especially if you aren't even getting an OLED out of it
xXEvanatorXx@reddit
I have used the same Samsung LED screen since 2009. So I can at least say they last.
Moldyshroom@reddit
I have 2 samsung 32inch (I think) 16:9 1080p panels at work 60hz refresh, both are curved with the white bezel. They have held up for 3 years even with my boss poking the screens constantly.... no dead pixels. Great for spreadsheets and gis needs.
At home I have 2 viotek 32 inch curved, 16:9, 165hz refresh monitors that said they were samsung panels I think in the specs or something, mightve read it somewhere not sure. 1080p and work great for productivity and gaming.
Honestly they are waaaay better than using a TV of the same resolution. And if you are doing productivity stuff with software which may still be living in the 2010s for the UIs, then I'd stick with 1080p or suffer fun scaling issues.
TLDR my samsungs are great, 10/10 would buy again. Hesitant to go higher resolution because scaling issues are waaay too fun for me with productivity software UIs. Cough ESRI.

I have a Samsung that I love. Best monitor I have ever had.
If you buy a monitor without knowing what it is made for, it’ll be bad. Lets say you wanna play Valorant, my 49 inch super ultrawide would be horrible. I play some and code some, really enjoying the screen real estate, color clarity and black values.
Many will buy a curved monitor and then whine the curve is more or less than they though… but they report the curve… people just seem to fail to look it up.
As far as I can see, this looks like a quite good option if you’re in the target demographic.
proper_jazz@reddit

I have a non-OLED G9 NEO for about a year now and my only issues are that it hates my docking station when swapping to my work PC. If it goes to sleep it either it wont show the screen or i get this crazy pixelated mess until i power cycle the monitor. I dont think it ever occurred on my gaming PC so could just be my work laptop.
I do notice a bit of flickering on VRR at times. Personally im downgrading from the 49" cause it just doesnt fit the games I play mostly but I wont be getting a Samsung based on my experience and others.

Krotiuz@reddit
Samsung is a pretty decent brand, it's also worth noting that other places (cough America) have poor consumer rights, so that heavily weighs into the decision - here you'll only have to deal with JB HiFi trying to scam you into extended product care. Samsung is a pain to deal with directly for support, but unless you buy from them you don't have to worry about that.
I've had a few Samsung screens over the years and they've been pretty good. I generally recommend Samsung, LG or Dell for screens
Prisoner458369@reddit (OP)
That is something I was confused about when I was reading reviews. People saying how shit the customer support is. I have brought/returned/dealt with these stores a few times with other things, never had much of any problems, assuming it's all within the warranty. Which being 3 years, shouldn't be much of an problem.
Couldn't tell if it was just difference in country or something going over my head.
cnhn@reddit
Samsung as a whole has a bad rep. things like washers, dryers, and fridges are all things that Samsung has a bad rep for quality and support
personally I work in Pro AV, and with their professional displays, samsung is fucking awful for support. they literally use true third parties to support their "professional" displays. they will also rebadge one of their consumer lines for pro and that causes it's own issues.
I try to never spec samsung displays because of their issues.
iKamikadze@reddit

Now that you mentioned I bought my first ultrawide from Samsung. I was moving from 1440p 16:9 to 1440p 21:9. Technically pixel size in that ultrawide was smaller so the image should be sharper but the image quality in comparison to my old monitor was quite poor. Some time later I bought another ultrawide monitor from LG (worth to point out for double the price of that Samsung), same size. The image quality was much better and it was better than my old 16:9.

crappysurfer@reddit
I got this monitor and it was nothing but issues. Its jam packed full of features but none of them work. It causes flickering, lag, even the bluetooth feature didn't work right. The autobrightness causes issues - so many features but none of them worked right. After 1 week exactly, the monitor died on me. I returned it and got the gigabyte m32u which is only 1440p but is a lovely monitor with no issues.
I ignored the warnings of everyone and got a monitor that was so bad all of the features needed to be disabled or didn't work - then the monitor just died. Thankfully it was still within the micro center return period or I wouldve had to endure the stupid RMA process with samsung.
Save yourself the headache, get something simple and well reviewed.
iliqiliev@reddit
Here is what I wrote for the review of mine (G5 27"): The monitor looks great for static content, but has terrible motion performance (its response times are slow, especially for blacks) and the Freesync implementation has unbearable VA flicker (the refresh rate change leads to a brightness change). Get it only if you are content with these limitations
Cookie_Burger@reddit
Yesterday I picked up a Odyssey G8 34" OLED, 2 dead subpixels out of the box, went into the store to exchange it and I asked if we could open the new one to check so I don't have to come back if its got the same issue since I live quite a ways away from any computer store and shipping was ridiculously priced. We opened it, and it had 4 dead subpixels, all green for some reason on both monitors. So I just returned it, got my money back, and ordered the Alienware where Dell offers a much better warranty and it had free shipping.

My samsung monitor also broke for no apparent reason. After a more thorough research I found out that samsung does indeed have problems with product longevity, short warranties and generally poor QA testing when compared to Dell or LG. Nowadays I use a LG monitor and can't complain.

OGigachaod@reddit
Samsung is simply not known for reliability compared to other brands like LG.
IlTossico@reddit
The fact is that Samsung tends to use VA for their monitors, and VA is comparable to TN, on how bad color accuracy is and in general the color coverage. Without talking about how white and black are, and everything else. VA was the Samsung response to LG IPS, but they never take off, it was a old tech and a very poor one in quality.
So, it's pretty obvious, that if you want a TV or a Monitor, and don't have money for an OLED, you go with IPS, and the best IPS panel out here, are made by LG.
Then, there is the fact that Samsung made IPS too, and they are just bad in everything, like with TV, they tend to calibrate them in a bad way, where they prefer to have a very saturated image.
I could talk for days, considering LG is just less expensive too, get a LG IPS, or anything with a LG pane.
Just avoid VA and TN.

Samsung's biggest issues stem from poor quality control with regard to manufacturing and calibration, which is why you have such a wide variety of opinions on the quality of Samsung monitors; it's great when it works and that's because it's a roll of the dice whenever you buy one.

Armed_Buoy@reddit
FWIW, yes. I have owned 2 Samsung monitors (G70A and Neo G8) and they have both given me nothing but issues. The former had constant connectivity issues while running at 144hz resulting in it randomly cutting off in the middle of some games, while the latter looked horrible at its full 240hz refresh rate due to the infamous "scanline" issue and developed VRR flicker so severe it rendered the monitor basically unusable with G-Sync on. Both monitors are technically still functional, but they're so obnoxious to deal with that I've opted to replace them. Clearly many people have not had the same issues, though, and their monitors are theoretically very well-specced displays that are often available for much less than their rivals, so it's up to you to decide whether you want to roll the dice and see if you end up with a problem-free example. Personally, I probably won't even buy another Samsung monitor unless they make a big deal out of improving their QC.

I've really liked Samsung Quantum Dot monitors, even since my very first C24G73 1080p 144hz monitor. I have no issues with the curve, that your eyes get accustomed to in an hour, or the slight response drawbacks of VA that I could never perceive. It's all worth it for the VA inky blacks and the Quantum Dot popping colors for me. Recently I upgraded to the Neo G7 and it's the best PC upgrade I've had in a while. For 600 euros, compared to the OLEDs costing twice as much and having the potential risk to burn in + lower brightness, it was a steal.

I see a lot of complaints over in the ultrawide subreddit, it's not so much about the inherent quality of the monitors but more that they have very bad QC for their monitors so people get their new purchases in the mail with scratches and scuffs or even DOA, along with hostile customer service so they have an uphill battle trying to get things rectified.

Not sure how relevant this is to your question but I got an old Samsung LCD screen (S22B300) bought from the exposition shelf, and it was fine for 5 or so years, got 1 dead pixel on it, but since it's my secondary screen now I don't really mind it. In fact looking at it right now I can't see it, but obviously I know the area where it is. I have a G6 OLED only because it was $420 at bestbuy but otherwise I would have got an LG. Samsung sucks as a company and I hate supporting them if I can help it.
Active-Fee4267@reddit
G5-7 with VA panel was terrible .. very slow response time .. not sure about others
MustangJeff@reddit
I recently ordered a 32" 4K Odyssey G8 through Samsung. I should get it by the end of the week. I'll try to remember to report back my thoughts. This is the monitor that Rtings ranked as #1.
My workplace has something called Perkspot that gives additional discounts to certain retailers. I was able to snag it for $849 and unbeknownst to me they tossed in a 27" G3 gaming monitor for free. Looks like my daughter is getting a monitor for Christmas for her rig.
I have a hard time believing that a company that makes some of the best TV's can't make a decent monitor, but time will tell.

Internet cafes with Samsung monitors always bad to look at, almost all of them when I played there. But maybe it's because they use second hand monitors (I do think they bought some new as well). FYI they're all gaming monitors, flat and curve too.
Aidansana9@reddit
I have a 1440 g7 odyssey and it's fantastic. You get used to the curve and I don't notice it now.
Murakkumo@reddit
I got an Odyssey G5, it’s great.
Electrocker2000@reddit
I’ve been using the G8 at my workplace for a week now and as fantastic as it looks when gaming, it’s terrible when working - so I’ll probably send it back and look around for an alternative. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a good all-rounder yet…

I have a G7 since 2020 and I had zero problems

I have the samsung odyssey g5 curved 1440p 144hz VA screen, it's been really good and definitely not as bad as people say.
AstarothSquirrel@reddit
My Samsung monitors (one 4k, the other 1080p) are both almost 5 years old and I've had zero issues with them. Occasionally, my ps5 will glitch a little but that is more than likely because it's on a 10m hdmi cable from the lounge, into the study. The 4k one is only 60hz but was cheap and I don't need any more than that. I have a friend that also has a 4k Samsung monitor that has had no issues. My monitors are on petty much every day from when I get in from my morning walk until I go to bed. I use them for work and play. There are the occasional weeks that they don't get switched on e.g. I'm away on holiday (vacation for the Americans)
user007at@reddit
I bought one, returned it a few days after. Not even an hdmi cable included in the box, display was really bad despite being 1440p - Got ASUS afterwards and it works fine without issues.
Dorennor@reddit
I don't know who exactly says that Samsung monitors are bad but my G4 Oddysey 27' is perfect for me. Nice image, good colors & brightness + HDR, VRR.
aXygnus@reddit
While I have a Samsung monitor (CHG70), it's not that one in particular. But it does have the famed quality control issues Samsung monitors are lauded to have; in this case, it's the "screen needs to heat up before displaying image properly" issue.

I dont think i have ever heard anything negative about samsung monitors except the price.

Yes, they are, i got a 4k 27 inchi monitor and a 4k 55 inch tv from them and right after the 2 year mark my monitor starting humming like r2d2 and it seems that it cant be fixed and my tv started showing purple hue spots. Never again

The main issue with Samsung (And as far as I'm aware they never officially addressed) is QC
Dead pixels, scan lines and other defects were very common with Samsung products a few years back
The hardware is good, they just didnt so the right quality checks before products were sold

I'm using my Samsung monitor since 14 years... Bought it in 2010 and been using it literally daily ever since. It became my secondary monitor at some point. Probalby will outlive me, tbh.
janluigibuffon@reddit
Never heard anyone saying that

I got an Odyssey G4 with a coil buzz, service refused repair and called that noise a ”feature" xD
at least I get a refund from the seller.
No more Samsung ever.
Danielle_Haydis@reddit
I had a Samsung Odyssey G7 (27" curved VA panel) and I prefer it over my current monitor. However, the Samsung monitor died less than a month after I had it. I didn't want to risk buying another one and it dying again so I bought a different one instead.
Laupstad@reddit
I recently purchased an Odyssey G5 (G50D 27") and honestly I am very satisfied with it. I love the quality and the sleek design. That being said it's my first ever QHD monitor, I've previously only owned monitors that are 1920x1080. I am very happy with it, the colors and graphics are great, the response time feels good and it's very smooth with the 180hz panel. The colors look much better than any monitor I've previously owned, although they're mostly basic AOC gaming monitors. The contrast and dark colors look amazing, but it took a bit of time to get used to lol.
CountAncient3327@reddit
I have 2 G5 32''. One at work and one at home for gaming. Had no issue apart from the fact that they are not very bright and a bit of ghosting in Last Epoch. There is no other monitor out there with those specs for that price.
The_Emperor_turtle@reddit
I'd say their quality control is shocking. Like ts of brand new monitors with dead bugs or debris inside the screen. (happened with mine) but good stuff.
Past-Catch5101@reddit
It's just overpriced. This is a VA panel. I personally wouldn't buy VA anymore, IPS got affordable.

Do people say they're bad?
I've never heard that people say they're bad, and my experience with them has always been fine.

I have three Samsung monitors split across my gaming PC and my work PC and all of them have been flawless

No one can give you a correct answer except Samsung with data in hand on the percentage of defective products.
I can speak for my experience so it is subjective in my case:
I had to return it (thanks Amazon) after 1.9 years of using the Neo G9 (2000 € monitor btw), for both hardware and software problems despite the updates.
Flickering with VRR, bug related to rebooting after sleep mode (I had to manually reboot it to make the image visible), the FALD algorithm is not 100% precise (in some movies it was unusable creating non-existent halos), and what made me ask for the return was that in the last month scanlines started to appear out of nowhere (every now and then).
If I had kept it, who knows, maybe the motherboard would have died and I would have had to send it in for repairs for who knows what cost.
From my experience I will never buy from them again, if they are not capable of making and fixing (software side) a monitor of their top range, I don't dare to imagine below.

I had a Samsung 1080p curved monitor that I bought 6 years ago from Best Buy on sale because the box was broken, I finally upgraded only about 2 months ago and gave it to my brother. Works just fine. This was a generic Samsung branded monitor, so I can’t speak for the nice ones.
RayphistJn@reddit
Don't have that one but I do have a G5 ips, had no issues with it
