I love the specials, but I do miss some of the genuine reviews. I feel like peak top gear was the later season with a good mix of the two.
Never was a fan of the celeb interviews, mind.
__sjors__@reddit
The interviews in Top Gear were kinda ok imo. Honestly quite funny sometimes like with Rowan Atkinson. Interviews in TGT sucked somehow. I find it almost unbearable and skip them every time. Can’t quite put my finger on it what’s causing the difference tho..
spiffiestjester@reddit
Keifer Sutherland's interview is one of my favourites, he is an excellent guest. I do miss Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.
pslatt@reddit
24 is returning, I hear.
__sjors__@reddit
Yes that one is actually quite fun! That’s one of the few I do watch ;p
spiffiestjester@reddit
Him talking about Charlie Sheen on a horse is by far one of the funniest things I have seen on that show. I feel like the biggest difference between TG and TGT interviews is that the one on TG just seem like a couple of friends chatting. There are some exceptions but for the most part it's just someone sitting on a couch chatting. Another good interview is Simon Cowell. He is obviously in Jeremy's social circle outside of the show and the way they dig at each other makes it all the more fun.
HopeComesToDie@reddit
You ever notice Jeremy giving a guest the middle finger? It would usually be accompanied with some sort of fake laugh and him rubbing his eye with the bird.
Ignition1@reddit
I never fail to spot that 😂
TGX03@reddit
On original Top Gear I found them pretty boring, because I didn't know most of the people invited. Before Brexit, who the fuck was Boris Johnson?
In later series they got more international stars, which somewhat peaked my interest. Rowan Atkinson, Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise were rather interesting, but in general it was still boring. The lap itself however still was pretty great.
On TGT however, even the race itself didn't interest me anymore. It really just feels forced in to get some famous people on the show, without really bringing forward car content or entertainment. It was also a part of the show Clarkson always did alone, meaning the chemistry between the three was missing.
OkAcanthocephala5249@reddit
Plenty of good interviews from the early days, I got to learn quite a lot of names because of their entertaining personalities shining through in the interviews.
DrSFalken@reddit
Not to be pedantic, but it's "piqued" my interest. One of those lesser-used homophone deals.
KyleCAV@reddit
Same I usually skipped the interviews and went straight to the lap. Just felt like a fluff piece for celebrities.
rimo2018@reddit
Before Brexit, Boris Johnson was a 2-term Mayor of London, Tory MP, columnist at multiple newspapers, editor of the Spectator, staple of HIGNFY and similar, holder of the coveted trophy for 'most posts sacked from for getting caught lying'. He was one of the most famous men in the country for at least a decade before Brexit, as well as far more popular before he inflicted that calumny on the country for the sake of his own career. The guests were generally British celebs, but then it was a pokey BBC2 motoring show!
Ignition1@reddit
Weirdly I found it was the other way round for me. I liked the guest interaction in TGT where as on TG I tended to skip them more.
I mean in general I skip the guest slots on both shows anyway as they're rarely interesting.
Hour-University-52@reddit
Think it’s because of the turn around time on the show, listening to smith and smith Richard Porter said that more celebs are willing to come on and talk about what they were doing like films or tv shows etc on TG because it come out same or next week, where as TGT was filmed months in advance so celebs couldn’t come on a talk about what film they were in this week because by the time it came out it would be out of date.
CaptainAksh_G@reddit
It's funny and I agree.
But, and here me out. It's not about electric cars for me. It's about Tesla.
It's just the freaking worst electrical models I have ever seen.
Real_Garlic9999@reddit
Now it turns out Teslas have the most fatal car accidents of any manufacturers
Ignition1@reddit
Got a source?
Real_Garlic9999@reddit

Ignition1@reddit
Interesting. I wonder if either:
Their occupant protection is worse than claimed
Driver's are distracted by some of the autonomous functions and rely on them too much.
Being fast EVs - people drive them faster and lose control.
Real_Garlic9999@reddit
It could easily be all three at once
CharlieFryer@reddit
It's Teslas and the fact that by buying one you're putting money directly in the pocket of a fascist.
Look, I'm sure the boss of say Subaru isn't a saint, but we all need to be thinking about this sort of thing now, sadly. Not to mention the fact that Teslas are ugly, soulless cars built to the nearest dollar.
that_dutch_dude@reddit
sales figures seem to disagree with you . that you dont like the design does not make it a bad car just like that people buy apple products over pc or android, people have preferences and if there is nobody interested its not getting sold. engineering wise tesla is still market leaders and no other car company is even getting close to what tesla is putting out engineering wise.
KungLa0@reddit
Found the Tesla driver
that_dutch_dude@reddit
i actually am not, i have a id buzz. but thank you very much for being the painful proof about the real problem.
KungLa0@reddit
Lol learn to take a joke if you're gonna hangout on the internet buddy
that_dutch_dude@reddit
i would if only you were joking. but you are not.
KungLa0@reddit
Boy you really took that personally huh?
that_dutch_dude@reddit
you really are one of those huh.
lets try blocking. i dont like people like you.
CaptainAksh_G@reddit
And I agree. I'm telling my opinion about it. It's okay if you don't agree.
Engineering wise, yes, they are good. Performance wise, I think the world is catching up to them.
Also, there's been instances of customers talking about having an incomplete finish , paint chips, cheaper quality materials used , etc.
that_dutch_dude@reddit
on the latter part, there will always be those people and a single broken door handle will be front page CNN news because its popular to ragebait on tesla/musk. i have driven plents of cars over the years across many brands and ALL of them had issues, some small, some big. but if i have to look at a piece of chipped paint or whatever versus the utter pile of shit my current german EV is i gladly take the chipped paint over a unusable infotainment and worthless app and the just comical list of issues that VAG-fanboys just tell me to suck it up. issues that tesla never had and are stupidly simple to solve.
CaptainAksh_G@reddit
And that's fine as well. That's your thinking. This is mine.
OP asked what was my thoughts and how I liked Clarkson's stance. That's what I mentioned here.
I could be wrong though, but that's just my opinion. But I'm open to hearing criticism.
It's just that other EVs have a reason: they don't have the proper infrastructure and/or the proper knowledge which results in a poor performance. But we're talking about Tesla, one of the world's largest EV manufacturers. I imagine of all companies, they should have a clear idea about the quality they use for their models.
That's the only thing that I don't like about Tesla.
qwzzard@reddit
Arguing with Tesla fans is like arguing with Apple fanatics. They have a weird and illogical brand loyalty, pretty much a religion. Reason does not apply, so just go straight to ad hominem and save time.
that_dutch_dude@reddit
The main difference is that the other carmakers are making fossil fuel cars and reuse parts and software in their EVs "side buisness". That just dont work right. I drove a electric audi a while back, never heard to many creaks and rattles from a EV in my life, but its logical as the interior is lifted straight from the fossil fuel version where the engine drowns out all those sounds and creaks as they didnt had to spend money on it before. But because its a "nice" german interor it gets a pass over the tesla minimalistic design that does not make any noise. So yes, they do know about the quality and they dont give a shit.
TAP_Optimus@reddit
His genius is almost frightening
DanR5224@reddit
It even generates gravity
Hopsasaaaa@reddit
He's right in most points he wants to make and his lawyer mention he can't say it. A car on a big battery is an expensive gimmick with way too much pollution. It's a write off, as they are not attractive second hand. So, both economically nor ecologically sound. They should stop production in the very near future.
FCEV will be the future. Still electric motor, but electricity for it will be produced right there in the car. Toyota's FCEV technology is already used in multiple types of vehicles, and soon you'll be able to top up your hydrogen at a normal petrol station.
Thaflash_la@reddit
Not even Toyota believes in Toyota’s FCEV. It’s dirtier energy, more problematic storage and delivery, less efficiency and not a fast enough refuel to full.
goatpath@reddit
you should come to Phoenix in the summer and walk through any grocery store parking lot. BEVs have to stay on to keep the battery cool.
My point is that the actual efficiency (energy dirtiness in your vernacular) of BEVs is variable depending on outdoor temperature. FCEVs don't have as big of batteries, so they don't do this (to my knowledge). Same with gas-electric hybrids; they have smaller batteries, too.
My boss drives a Tesla Model 3 (haha, capitalism amiright), and we laugh about how it's all a crapshoot. Buy a Tesla, you probably do more environmental harm than if you bought a used F-150. Buy a FCEV, you lose efficiency on your way to and from the few fueling stations. Buy a gas-electric hybrid, it's like twice as much pollution to make the car, and then it only nets you +10% fuel efficiency bc of the added battery WEIGHT you tow around constantly.
FWIW, Toyota does believe in the concept of hydrogen fuel, which is why they made an internal combustion engine that runs on H2... They clearly have someone at the top level advocating to develop H2 fueled vehicles. Don't sleep on the innovation that is possible within the FCEV space
Thaflash_la@reddit
Go buy a Mirai, come back to me after 3 years of ownership and we’ll talk fcev.
goatpath@reddit
haha I thought about it! I'm not that big of a tech hound. Still waiting on a hydrogen station in my neighborhood.
Thaflash_la@reddit
That’s where our knowledge goes separate ways on this matter.
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
What are you defining as ‘soon’?
theycallmebekky@reddit
It costs so much more energy to get hydrogen from place to place (not to mention the infrastructure) than it does to just make an EV go zoom.
Hopsasaaaa@reddit
Keyword: future.
Not talking about the current situation. It will be more efficient to work with hydrogen, next to the other benefits.
that_dutch_dude@reddit
wonderful, another idiot that does not know what he is talking about but cant stop having a opinion about it.
feel-the-avocado@reddit
Got a link? Want to confirm this is an old review where he has a bunch of lawyers in his car, or are you referring to a new review he has done recently?
chandleya@reddit
He doesn’t even look this way anymore. Guys like 7-8 years older.
custard130@reddit
im fairly sure that image is from the one where he had a bunch of lawyers with him
elpierce@reddit
Elon Musk is a piece of shit and so are his deathtrap cars.
Signal_Quarter_74@reddit
Parts of it I like a lot. The lawyer bit was great. The misinformation against EVs, c’mon Jeremy.
More I was shocked at how expensive Teslas are in the UK. A fully loaded model X at the time in the US would have been like $115,000, which is like £78,000. That’s quite a difference and does make it unobtainable.
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
I think his original Tesla Roadster review directly contributed to Elon’s weird villain arc from the better portion of this decade
easyKmoney@reddit
A typewriter sales person, reviewing a computer. Nothing to take notice of.
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
That comparison implies that the Tesla is specifically more advanced than other cars on the market.
Dankas12@reddit
I don’t mind taking about Tesla’s quality specifically but his comments on the general EVs was very annoying
wrestlingchampo@reddit
If I want a review of an electric car, I'll watch just about anyone else tbh
Clarkson is entertaining to be sure and certainly knows a thing or two about ICE vehicles, but I find his EV reviews to be incredibly smug, and not in the humorous way that Clarkson often gets a pass. Even more so for his disdain for the climate change movement.
Very clearly talking from a place of massive privilege, and nary a concession that he is out of touch.
One_Hyena4646@reddit
I started laughing when he started going over the icons you could use on the sat nav and one of them was bonds lotus
los_blanco_14@reddit
Pretty unbiased from a guy who hates Evs
Doc891@reddit
it was fair and i still think a lot of what he said about electric cars over the years has been either proven right, or was and still is right on the mark.
vijgan_1@reddit
Both were good. And I thought it was not disingenuous.. some of the flaws were overblown, for making it funny.. but love them both..
TheMikeyMac13@reddit
It was meant to be funny, and it was funny :)
Ignition1@reddit
The lawyers bit was brilliant - entertaining to the viewers, and also showing how petty Telsa was with him and the lawsuit. I got the impression he did like the Model X and some of its features, despite the price and range concerns.
Eryeahmaybeok@reddit
It was years ago and Elon is a cunt.
your-sisters-cunt@reddit
I find this post offensive. Cunts aren’t that bad
Extension_Course_833@reddit
White goods
Dwight_Schnood@reddit
Is it green?
Ignition1@reddit
Duh-duh-duhhhh
ImRudzki@reddit
For legal reasons all I can say is that I've seen it.
Tezlaract@reddit
Love it. And I own the car.
Sailing-Cyclist@reddit
I do think this is the origin story of Elon’s utter resentment for the UK in recent years.
jonbivo@reddit
A creative and entertaining idea to literally have a car full of lawyers to avoid getting sued like his first tesla review. I loved it
CaravanShaker83@reddit
I have a Tesla. I love it and it’s funny as, I love all Clarkson reviews good or bad cars.
onionwba@reddit
Not sure if I really wanna say anything.
Not keen to have a lawsuit coming my way.
RocasThePenguin@reddit
A great review. The lawyer part was pretty funny.
